BE BOP A LULA, SHE'S MY BABY....

This is a bunting-free week...whoop whoop!  Even I was getting fed up of seeing it :-)  In fact, you couldn't get a much more different desk today!

Yep, it's the longest, thinnest scarf I've ever made!  Cast on five stitches and knit until the yarn runs out (some of you may recognise it as tinsel yarn which I used to make the Hooters and Hedgehog soft toys)

And why did I do this?

In order to tart up a very ordinary black shrug!  The 'scarf' was just long enough to start at one side seam, up and around the neckline and finish at the other side. Lucky eh?!  I needed something to go to the annual dinner and awards evening of my brass band :-)

It went really well with the 50s style vintage dress I bought. The skirt is very full and swishes out, which I like a lot. I might have to buy a net underskirt to really do The Look. It was ever so comfy to wear and I got a lot of compliments, so that was lovely :-D  Oh, and I won an award too and so did Mr LLJ, for helping out the band. Woohoo!

Not a lot of crafting has happened as the week has been full of decorating and brass tooting.

Last Thursday, Phoenix Brass gave a concert for the residents and families at the Help for Heroes HQ at Tidworth (I'm 2nd from left in the back row, playing the big 'un!) For the non-UK deskers, this is an amazing place where wounded military personnel can recover from their life threatening injuries.

What an evening. The buildings were fantastic (we were in the Sports hall), the facilities are incredible and the people who are there are inspiring. A local choir sang a few spots too and we got a standing ovation...twice!  I sincerely hope that we get to play there again - it was a truly fantastic experience.

Have a great week everyone. xxxxxxxx

And what a worthy audience you played for. Well done you (and Mr LLJ) on your trophies. Well done too on using that wool to dress up (much more polite than "tart up" tee hee) your little shrug although I did wonder what on earth it was when I saw it naked.
Have a lovely wee, you deserve them.
Hugs, Neet 5 xx

Wish I could come and hear you play Jan.What a lovely thing to do. Congrats on the trophies/ award. I LIKE "Tart UP".It's a very Aussie type of phrase!!
I thought that black scarf was a line of caterpillars you see end to end in a line. The only thing that freaks me out are red Back spiders close up!!Nasty bite!!

Looks like I did the opposite to you as I removed some fur trim from a preschool dressing up dress which had become tatty, missing in places and had gone curly in the wash! Despite the carpal tunnel I managed to hand sew some pastel daisy trim in its place. Love what you did with your trim and love the pink dress too. The brass band looks great, excellent. Knew anyone knitting a black swirl that long would have to have a purpose, Lunch Lady Jan, and yup, you did! Wonderfully brilliant idea and totally agree your retro dress was worthy of those compliments, it's gorgeous.
And I am vigorously patting myself on the back here, cos I picked you in band before reading your explanation :D maybe cos have seen you before eh? But this band seems bigger than previous ones ..are there different size bands you play in or maybe my memory from early days on blog was original size and it's grown? How absolutely wonderful that you played for those recovering protectors of our freedoms.
Thanks for popping over already, too.

I'm glad the concert was such a success! Help For Heroes is such a good cause. I used to support it too when we lived in the UK, although I am not British. Your military always do a good job wherever they go.
Great photo of the band and congratulations both of you for winning awards.
