NOW IT'S THE SAME OLD SONG...

Hello all you lovely Deskers, hope all is well with you this week! It's been a case of the same old-same old here in the JanCave, sewing up a storm when it's grey and rainy outside. However we've had some lovely bright weather as well so we've been out walking on the beach too, gotta be done!

This sums up what I've been doing:

Using up stash fabric to make tote bags, string quilt squares and syringe driver bags (not shown cos I passed them on without taking a pic, doh. I did 22 in all)

I find it impossible to do completely random choices with the string quilts - I simply can't put two colours together if they don't look right, sad but true.

Each square ends up having a certain tone or colourway!

I made some bunting for the new grandson of a friend of mine who lives up in the Cairngorms:

And the spelling is right, I double checked!

Even though I stabilised the tartan fabric, it still frayed quite a bit but it looks good though. The pivot function on my machine makes sewing around the letters a breeze, so much quicker than before.

I found an YouTube artist called Hu Art, he does watercolour/zentangle mash-ups which I really like so I blew the dust off my paints etc and had a go:

I had fun and soon went off piste when following the tutorial...

Ok for a first attempt, I'd do another!

That's it for this week, hope your crafting goes smoothly and you have fun! xxxxxxx

So lovely to see all your makes Jan. I think I need to get into my stash and might do a few bags. It's a while since I have done any. I do have 6 workshops for March to make packs for so will have to make a work schedule 🤣🤣. Your mash up is beautiful - you never know what you can do until you have a go and wandering off piste is the best way! x x Jo 🌈

Ooh, I can see that watercolour being something that would be very relaxing - so much that I am tempted to look the artist up. Love Oskar's bunting, very effective but then who doesn't love a bit of tartan.
Love your quilt, you certainly have the knack when it comes to colours.

Well done you with all the fab makes. I love the zentangle mash-up very much...I think we all like to go off piste at times [if only I had the energy to be on piste in the first place lol].

Dear Jan!
Thanks for sharing all your crafts! I googled Hu Art. Love it! and yours (off piste or not) is so beautiful. I know - you are talented!
You were so busy! Syringe driver bags, tote bags, string quilts and the lovely bunting. Oskar is a well known name in Austria.
And nice to read, that you went to the beach, when sun is comming out.
Have a good time, enjoy everything!

Hi Jan, I have watched several of his little videos. I love your version. I had to smile when you said you had checked the spelling because I was wondering! Happy WOYWW. Angela #13

I adore your watercolour/zentangle! Didn’t go to watercolour class today as I woke at 5am coughing with an asthma attack so I was wiped out when 8am came. I made my excuses and went back to sleep.
You have such a good eye for colour, your strip quilts are beautiful. Your bunting for Oskar is great, too, though the fraying tartan must have been annoying to sew.
Yesterday’s the hospital told me my aunt is improving a bit.
Happy WOYWW

Oh my life the watercolour zentangle is AMAZING, I'm gonna have to give that a go soon.... Think I'll be getting some new paints for my birthday so a good excuse to dust off my paint pans.... Love the pen tins as well, they are cool. Super bunting, still have mine up and if I ever mention you to hubby I always say the WOYWW lady who made the bunting who lives the other side of Rhossili! So back the the string quilt squares....I'm always in awe of all your lovely fabrics and have just bought a wad of 56 25cm square pieces to use for my fabric projects. Totally enabled, thank you Jan. Off piste? You? I can't believe it. Another Wednesday I've failed to post...this time because I'm in Tenerife with Susie and I cannot find daytime time. Currently sitting on my bedroom balcony before meeting up for supper, watching the big ferries ploughing to and fro. Nice! 22 Syringe driver bags - you go girl! Carol asked our WI group to make some and I doubt if we will have managed that between us by the time she thinks to collect them. Blimey. Hope you're both well, xxxxxx

Your bunting is wonderful and the totes are so pretty! I love your quilt squares. I have the same issue when I do paper piecing for my cards. If the strips don't have a certain flow, I just can't do it.
I love your artwork. I have watched Hu Art, but his stuff is too advanced for me. I am using another artist's tutorial for beginners. One of these days I will be brave enough to share something during one of our hops!
Have a fabulous week!

Good morning, Jan!
Some day I'll get back to sewing/ quilting. LOL Bob asked me the other day what I planned to do with the containers of quilt kits I bought some 35 years ago! LOL He's so silly. hehe
The mat with the concentric circles you saw on my desk is a silicone mat for rolling out pie crusts. I picked it up at our local home improvement shop in the kitchen department for $1.99. heavier than most silicone mats for crafting and a TON less expensive. I have one for actual purpose in the kitchen and keep this one on my table in the craft room if I'm going to get messy... like with white paint the other day.
rain/s now/ sleet mix here today. Good day to get caught up in the office.
