'TWAS IN THE MOON OF WINTERTIME

WHEN ALL THE BIRDS HAD FLED...

Today's lyrics come from the Huron Carol, one of my favourites - I used to play it in choir practise when working as a TA in primary school, the children loved it too because it was different and fun to sing.

I learned on FB yesterday that Christine (Blog name Bishopsmate) passed away on 13th November. She hadn’t posted for ages due to ill health but had been a staunch supporter of my blog. We’d met many times at Crops, her pink hair as vibrant as her personality, at least she’s now with her beloved PJ again xx

I can't show you my desk today as Owen is working in the JanCave for the week. I haven't been sewing much, been too busy doing other things - but I did have a fabric delivery. Aren't they lush?!

Ooooh, I don't know which one to start with!  The gorgeous jewel bright colours really attracted me - I must be going through a phase cos look.....

My next blanket project! There's a couple more balls of purple somewhere, wonder where they've gone?  I'm making a throw for the bed in the JanCave and will appreciate the colours all year round.

I've been using up scraps to knit these tiny little hats for next year's Innocent Smoothie campaign. I know Mary Anne does some amazing patterns but  I found these plain little hats easy to knit with the little pom poms made using a fork:

So quick and easy to do!

We've been out and about quite a bit doing some Christmas visiting - we had a trip to Llandeilo, a small market town with quite a buzz. These decorations were fun, on a building that used to be the Gin House, a place that many a friend has been with me!

It's now a cafe and was too cold to sit outside, very different to when a gin cocktail or two has been drunk there!

We visited the Christmas tree festival in our local church St Illtyd as well:

It's a very ancient church founded in the 11th century - I sang in the choir as a child here, also was married and both boys were christened here so it's been part of my life for a long time! It was lovely viewing all the beautiful trees decorated by local groups and businesses.

And I admire my group of trees every day:

Some made by yours truly, the crochet ones made by Famfa, a desker of old and the gnome was made by Jill, my SiL. I do love getting these old favourites out each year.

Hope you have a good week in the run up to Christmas, I don't know if Sarah will post a link up next week but I shall be there if you are! xx

I was sorry to see about Christine (just wish it had been in time to not wish her happy birthday! I was mortified)
Your days out look fabulous, the old Gin House looks very festive. Happy Christmas, but I will probably get to join in some time next week! Helen #2

What a lovely festive and crafty post. I bet that blanket will look wonderful in those jewel colours. Those little hats are cute and a great way to use up your bits and bobs. I was shocked to hear about Christine - so sad. She was a lovely lady and I remember helping her to her car at our last Shrewsbury crop.
I will link up for Christmas too but have a lovely pre Christmas build up. x x Jo 🌈

Oh those colours of yarn! Stunning and bright. I love your trees so much, and the festive photos are real winners. Your little hats are fab - I have not made many yet but once I finish another epic sweater project it will be hats, hats, hats. Have a lovely holiday and hope you can get back to the cave soon. :)
On time!

I love a tree festival, aren't people inventive with them. Last year I saw one in St Thomas, Salisbury that was made from Honesty with white lights, it was so stunning in its simplicity. I'm still struck by it! Also of course, love a group of anything, so your group of trees really makes me smile. Bet you're enjoying having Owen home - doubly so because by the time you can get back to your machine, you'll be overflowing with ideas and enthusiasm!
Very sad news about Christine, she will live large in our memories, huh.

Put a bit of a damper on my day when I saw Helen's news about Christine. So sorry to hear that news, she was such a big character at the crops with her smile and laugh.
Well, the new fabric is gorgeous, love the celestial ones particularly. Must say the last one reminds me of Bet Lynch - but any leopard print does. Glad you have your son with you, must be lovely for you and G. The throw for the cave will be fab with those colours.
Loved the church photo, we used to visit all the old churches on Anglesey and it was lovely to do so. Some very remote ones that I was surprised still kept going as they were miles from habitation except a farm maybe in some cases.
Hugs, hopefully see you next week but if not have a wonderful Christmas.

Defo LUSH - What's occurin'? The blue moon one is my fav. Although nothing like bright colours though and the yarns are super vibrant. ADORE the little hats, so must get my knitting needles out ..... one day.... I got my 2 little handmade trees out too, had forgotten the button one and I made a fabric "scrunchy" one too. I'll be there next week easier with no early house group to go to, and in fact I doubt there will be any other early stirring here so I'll need something to do. Shame I can't get any Cadbury's Original Hot Chocolate at present they had a production error so none in the shops for weeks now.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New WOYWW Year to you.

What a lovely read today. I am catching up now that we are at the holiday house and are ready for Christmas! Those words from the carol were a lovely start. Beautiful fabrics and yarns and I love the little hats. I put most of our decs up at home and love getting out all the old favourites especially those made by the kids or that used to belong to my mum. And Kevin surprised me bringing home a light up echidna for the garden! But I did bring a few things to put up here including a collection of trees. Happy Christmas and all the best for the new year!
