WOYWW 654

O CHRISTMAS TREE, O CHRISTMAS TREE

HOW LOVELY ARE THY BRANCHES

I debated joining in today as I don't have a desk to share - I did a load of sewing last week to fill up my stock boxes and then sent my machine off to be serviced as it has done a mega amount of work these past twenty months. But I feel as if I'd be missing out if I didn't join in the desky snooping!

The Christmas wreath I made is now in situ:

Not bad as everything was free, foraged or kept from last year!

The little pine cone trees have taken their place in my Christmas forest:

Friends old and new! Hey Diana, I still have the gorgeous one you made for me a few years back xx

And I still think of Famfa, a desker from Canada who was a regular WOYWWer for quite a few years - she made me the crochet gnomes and tree. I made the linen and gingham versions ages ago, they were probably some of the earliest things I made after I took up sewing again.

And my blanket is on standby for when I'm having a chat with Lynnecrafts this afternoon via Zoom!

G is ploughing his way through the glass plate negatives and thought you might like to see these.

It has been interesting to look at the fashions of the time especially the children where the size of bonnet is inversely proportional to the size of the child!

They didn't go in for small hats!

Another that caught my eye was a family grouping:

No huge bonnets this time but...stap me.... if that isn't.....

NANNY McPHEE!!!! She did exist after all, lol!

Sorry about the lack of crafting but hope you enjoy my witterings - have a good week and take care away from the madness xxxx

I love your Christmas trees Jan - each one a little treasure. The photos are wonderful - I'm always amazed at all the detail in the costumes - not just a quick make are they?! xx Jo

I call making Christmas wreaths and trees crafting! They look lovely Jan. Friends old and new are how I feel about my Christmas tree decorations, too.
Those photos are great, as well. The hats are amazing. What on earth is Nanny McPhee wearing on her head? She looks like she’s been forced into wearing it for the photo.
Looking forward to our chat later
Take care and happy WOYWW

The wreath is gorgeous and I love your little displays - how sweet your little trees look and I'm honoured that mine is being displayed! I love the Nanny MacPhee photo - it's so funny, but the photos are so interesting too - I wonder if that little girl in the huge hat ever ran free, played in puddles and climbed trees!
Happy chatting with Lynne this afternoon,
Diana xx #12

Thanks Jan for the visit. LOVE your wreath and ALL the great photos. I had thought of grouping my various sized trees but not really room with the Nativity's set up. Maybe next year Starting in OCTOBER !!! Just didn't work that way this year. Spent 3 hrs getting ready for a storm I hope don't happen ! Cat carrier, shoes, coats, flashlights, keys, water, chargers, all in our safe place basement. ENJOY the Hustle and see you next week.

Beautiful wreath - I would say as good as the one I saw at Waitrose for £30. What a lovely collection of miniature Christmas trees - I don't remember Famfa - she must have been part of WOYWW before my time. I do wonder sometimes what happened to people who stopped coming - we could easily find out though by visiting old links if they still blog. I'm fascinated by those old photos - they look really sharp for their age, but I guess digital technology has something to do with that! Thanks for your visit, Jan - hope you have a good week! xx zsuzsa #17

Still chuckling at Nanny McPhee! Perfect! G is doing a fabulous job with these photographs, please keep them coming, I am enjoying them so much. Now, I hate to say this, but if memory serves me right I had a hat like the little girl's one in the first photo. Not to wear on a Sunday in my Sunday best (and I am not that old, am old but not that old). It was the Festival of Britain celebrations in the local park and I am sure I wanted a hat like that shape. It was white gauze type fabric, stiffened and decorated, that's all I remember.
Let's skip that - love your garland on the door. Well done you, you did make a super job of it and should be immensely proud.
Love your little tree collection, all so different and with such a lot of memories which are the most precious things about life, especially it seems, at Christmas.
We (I really) have escaped to the van - nothing like a blow on the Prom to make you feel much better - especially with all the Omicron news we have each time we turn the tv on. Went in Iceland on Sunday at home, 10 am - thinking it would be best time. Five out of eight people in the store did NOT wear masks. Just been in Aldi in Carnforth and not one person was not masked up. No contest for shopping - and only an hour from home.

Hi Jan, same here, not much going on but, now that I'm back into the old routine, I didn't want to miss joining in this week. Your wreath looks perfect and I love your collection of trees. The gnomes are cute. Love the old photos and Nanny McPhee is real - who knew. I was told by a photographer that people rarely smiled when posing for photos back then because their teeth were rarely a pretty sight. Dental care wasn't as good as it is today. Have a lovely week. It’s been such a busy day for me (it started at 8 am with my first of many customers). I’ve been head down sewing all day but have stopped to eat and blog now.
I love old photos...the fashions are amazing. Your little group of trees are gorgeous...little memories each and every one.

Love your forest of trees, are the gnomes made with wine corks perchance, so sweet. The blanket is my fav colours - LUSH. Oh no Nessa rises again, knew you'd do the TIDY justice. Loving the glass plate photos amazing clothes. I guess they would have used hand sewing machines in those days, I learnt on a hand machine and never thought I'd progress to electric, how little we know when young. BJ#20

Hi Jan! Nanny McPhee! LOL! She certainly doesn't look happy, neither does anyone else in that photo except for the girl who is probably flirting with the photographer! I love your tree collection! I have a Nutcracker collection and a snowman collection. Sorry I'm so late, stay safe! Lindart#22
