ALL KINDS OF EVERYTHING.....

Blimey, it's been a hot one this week - to be honest, we've had the quietest of times, strolling out in the evenings when the temps have been less and enjoying the sea breezes. The bathroom is nearly finished and I've tidied away the JanCave Mk2 (aka dining table) but it's going to be a couple more days before I have a good clean and reinstate all my stuff back into the JanCave Mk1!

This is how things stand at the moment upstairs:

The bathroom is looking super smart - my workroom less so! But it was the right thing to do as the guys have been able to keep all their stuff out of the way.  What do you think of your en suite Julia? At least you won't have to mountaineer into the shower cubicle when you're next down, lol!!

It's been too hot to crochet the blanket I'm working on so instead I've been using up odds and sods of yarn to make squares for the blankets that WI put together for charity. The next project are beanie hats ready for the Commit to Knit month in September - hence the knitting needles stabbed into the ball there!

Here are all the squares laid out:

There's a few more so a good amount to hand over to the volunteer who's going to crochet them all together - what a good lass, I detest doing that job. This is why I always crochet stripey blankets for my projects, no sewing up at all ;-)

Talking of crochet - a week or so back, I went to Llandeilo and popped into Deb's, my favourite wool shop ever. I hadn't realised that Deb had been through the mill, healthwise, and while she still has treatment to undergo, she's in the shop, being her normal feisty, take-on-the-world self. Anyhow, her friend sent her a blanket she'd made, called The Phoenix. I've seen these Mandala type patterns online but never in the flesh.  All I can say is...

WOW!!

The photo doesn't do it justice actually, the colours sing out, it was like a Persian tile -the amount of work that went into this is astounding. Deb is going to do a CAL with the pattern at her shop over the next year. I wish I lived closer as I would definitely have given it a go. And if that doesn't help her on the road to recovery, nothing will. Love ya, Deb - keep fighting xx

G is continuing his foray into our past travels and guess what? Another LLJ and fabric shot surfaced!

I think it was later the same day from last week's shot. Look at those amazing piles of fruit, that's the thing I remember most about Indonesia actually, the beautiful displayed market stalls....with the exception of the fish market in Jakarta, you needed a strong stomach to cope with that pong!!  Happy days - we'll probably bore you more with future pics from our ancient holiday snaps....

Hope you have a marvellous week!

Glad the bathroom is almost done and you can get back in the JanCave soon
I am super impressed you've been managing to crochet - although I think perhaps your temps haven't been quite as hot as here in London
Debs' blanket is beautiful, no wonder you'd love to do one. Helen #1

Morning Jan. That blanket is amazing, isn't it? Glorious colours and so much texture. Loving the bathroom - is it really "en suite" or just close to?? Must come investigate sometime, when I'm not gadding about! Well done on the squares - far more sensible than me who has been frantically trying to finish a rainbow striped blanket for Uganda - and failing miserably as it has been so incredibly hot and heavy on my lap! A giant pile of fruit indeed! What an experience, though - you well travelled pair.
Take care. God bless.

Morning Jan
I have to say I admire anyone who can crotchet, it’s one of life’s skills that my brain is not wired right for. I recently sat next to a lady who does it for magazine and exhibitions and the piece she was working on was stunning as is that blanket.
Have a good week

Looking at that last photo, it is amazing to see the fruit piled up like that but what struck me is how fashion conscience you were. Look at the skirt, matching bum bag and bandana. Brilliant blues.
Lovely crochet, both yours and that of your friend.
Glad the bathroom is getting to its end and you can soon move back into the JanCave.
Hugs, Neet 2 xx

I think you will love your new bathroom. Loving the granny squares you are crocheting. What a lovely blue piece, I can't imagine the amount of work in that one. I love crochet but don't do it much anymore as it makes my elbow and shoulder hurt. Enjoy the rest of the week!

Hiya Jan, it's looking great, but you'll be glad to have your Jan cave back! I can't drink wine either- it gives me a headache, even the smell, lol. So I'll stick to being a Gin Queen, rofl. The blanket is amazing, ans so are all your squares, you must be chuffed with them. Great photo, who'd have thought you'd be attracted to fabrics, lol. Love & hugs to you all, Shaz #5 XxXxXx

I love your crocheted squares and need to relearn how to make them cos Amy's two girls are wanting to learn how to knit/crochet and of course yours truly is the one who will be teaching them...its a long time since I crocheted squares so will be having a refresher with Pinterest's assistant.

It’s looking marvellous, love this warm tiles, makes the old white ones feel distinctly chilly, and yet it wasn’t noticeable. The floor looks good too, how lovely and, for those of us not involved...how quick it seems your worker boys have been. Omgosh look at your Titian hair, how beautiful. As for last week’s pic of you in the Greek hotel window.....could have been Rhys last week!

Hi Jan, so nice to see the bathroom is almost done and you'll be able to take back the JanCave very soon. Julia will be hot-footing it down to give the bathroom her official approval :) I love your crochet squares - very colourful and cheerful. Not keen on the job of crocheting them together either but it's got to be done. Deb's blanket is a work of art - simply stunning! And it looks super cosy too. Hope she responds well to the treatment she is receiving and makes a good recovery. I'm enjoying seeing your ancient holiday snaps - they are obviously bringing back happy memories of a wonderful trip too. Glad you like my trolley too. I love it. So much so, I have another next to my sewing table! Found them half price online at Hobbycraft - much cheaper than Ikea but just as sturdy. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #19

Hi Jan, I am so sorry I didn't make my weekly visit last week. Correcting that today! Your bathrooom looks amazing. I love the flooring. We just finished having the outside of our home repainted so I know the agony of the wait!! But as we all know, it's so worth it! The charity blanket squares are so lovely. I like the happy colors you used. Smart lady to have someone else sew them together.
I hope your friend heals fast and oo la la that mandala blanket is gorgeous. It looks like loads of hours.
Indonesia huh? That sounds like fun and yes the food arrangement does put a smile on my face too and I am only looking at the photo!
Thanks for the visit today. My mammogram is all done just a bit sore but happy to have access to the technology even if I look like a flapjack inside it!!

The pictures aren't boring. As someone who has never travelled out of the UK (apart from to EuroDisney once!) I find them fascinating and can only imagine the colours and smells you must have experienced.

The blanket is gorgeous, learning to crochet is on my list and I cannot imagine how long that must have taken!

Good luck with all the buildery stuff!

Lots of lovely crochet this week, Jan! I am so glad that the building mess in the house is soon coming to an end. You will enjoy your glamorous new bathroom and the revamped Jan Cave, I am sure! Thank you for your comment and of course I don't mind if you copy my idea - especially as it wasn't my idea in the first place lol! I only made it my own with the embroidery. It was a fun project to do!

Happy WOYWW,

I LOVE the granny-blanket you are working on and the mandala blanket is just amazing! I found a next crochet project (and a pattern with it!) to start on: a long 'hippie-bohemian vest, but it may take a while before I can begin on that.. I will need a lot of wool/colors ánd a lot of time, which I don't have at the moment. I love the old photos you share, the fruit is amazing (reminds me of India) and I especially like the small parts of pattern fabric hanging from the stall (at the top of the pic.) Thanks for your visit to my blog the other day, happy - belated - woyww. Hug from Holland. Marit #14

Hi Jan
Thanks for the visit. I've sure missed your smiling face. ;-)
I've been crocheting here, too. Working on a small afghan for my youngest granddaughter. Whatever possessed me to do all single crochet?! Oh well, coming out pretty. I won't make the same mistake with the other granddaughter's. hehe. Bathroom looks nice. I miss those wall registers. Is that your main heat source there? Creative Blessings! Kelly #22
