IF I HAD A HAMMER....
or
CAREFUL WITH THAT AXE EUGENE
or
RELIGHT MY FIRE
or
FORGING A LINK TO YOUR HEART
or
SLEDGEHAMMER

etc etc etc..............

Sorry about the plethora of lyrics today, we kept thinking of more and couldn't decide so you've got them all. You'll see why later :-)

After two weeks of being a good girl, photography-wise, it's all gone pear shaped today. Grab a coffee/tea/gin/beverage of choice - we may be here for a while!

I'm organising an Easter stall at the next WI meeting, with contributions of homemade lemon curd, chocolates, cards and crafty items and thought that I'd better make something to add to the mix.  Someone had recently given me some dried lavender so:

I thought I'd use it up with some linen I found at the bottom of a box...

..and go down the Country Chic line....

There you go!

G was going on a photography 1-1 workshop on Monday and bought himself a remote cable release gadgety thing....but it didn't have a case, so:
I used this fabric as it's really tough - it didn't really need a lining but I thought it would look nicer with the black spotty.

I had about 4cms of black velcro left which was perfect for the closure...and there you are. G's course was fantastic - check out Andrew Warren sometime, some great landscape pics! I'm sure I may well show you one or two of G's at some point in the future...you know, when I have nothing to show...or say.... :-)

The WI group have been knitting and crocheting squares - I delegated the job of sewing it all up to a willing (!) volunteer and here it is before going off to a local community group to be given to someone in need:
A hotchpotch but bright and cheerful - hope someone likes it.

Now then, the reason for all the mad lyrics!  We gave our son Rhys an axe making course as his main Christmas present. It was at the Phoenix Forge, Carmarthen (Shaz Silverwolf, you need to check out the gallery, there's a leafy spiral staircase and lots of dragons)

He had a really fantastic day hammering the daylights out of lumps of metal:

What do we tell our kids? Oh yeah, be careful of fire.......

Forging an axe head...

It takes a lot of effort to achieve a good effect. Look at that wall behind Rhys however, I'd love some of those things!!

Making sparks is satisfying!

But the results were worth all the hard work! Rhys really enjoyed it and is proud of the fact that he made this from scratch:

Not bad for a first time eh?  Now to look at all the other courses on offer...hmmmmm.

Woohoo, you've reached the end - hope you're not exhausted!
Have a great week :-) xxxxx

I like himselfs gadget pouch. I bet he was pleased.
Speaking of which Emma was thrilled wirh your lovely bunting. No pics yet as she it’s not up on the wall as we speak. She’s struggling at the moment as baby Alyssa is awake all night and has reflux and colic. Let’s hope things settle for them soon

Hiya Jan, loving those lavender bags, they look so cool! Rhys looks like he had a fab time, and did an ace job with that axe. If he like that sort of thing, tell him to look on You Tube for Alec Steele- he's a young Brit guy, who does fab stuff, and he's just moved to Montana. Or if swords & stuff are his thing too, there's Man At Arms, they do loads of famous movie/manga type weapon recreations. And for sheer craziness in this line, look for Michalcthulu! I'll go check out that link later, Love & Hugs to you all, Shaz XxXx

The photo's of the metal-workplace and the big fire made me think back of my childhood days... There was a forge in my village and the blacksmith made horseshoes for horses... we, kids, always went to look at the horses getting those shoes 'nailed' into their feet... oops, I might use strange words for it all - my Enlish is pretty good when it comes to 'crafting sentences' but not so much when it comes to the 'metal craft' (had to look up a lot of words... Anyway, LOVE the photos!!! Have a lovely week Jan, hug from Holland. Marit #19

What a lovely blogpost Jan - I immediately thought of Maxwell's Silver Hammer when I saw your list - macabre I know, but a favourite! What a great pressie for Rhys - it looks like he had a fantastic time and what a brilliant job he did too. I love the lavender bags - so beautiful and classy, and I also love the geometric fabric you used on the little case - I have some Liberty curtains similar but in a larger scale pattern.
Have a great week,

What an unusual gift Jan. One which I am sure was gratefully received and obviously, from the photos, thoroughly enjoyed. Gosh, your son does look like you. I had to smile at the faces of the group - they all look a bit 'dirty' from the smoke.
Great makes from a cleaner environment - lovely case you made for G - he must be so glad he has such a handy missus. And the WI must be glad they got you joining them when you moved down there. Those lavender bags are just perfect and the blanket will be so well received.
Have another great week and hope you get some of those lovely beach walks in.
Hugs, Neet 10 xx

Hi Jan, I thought of Maxwell's Silver Hammer too - I used to sing that one to my boys at bedtime when they were little, they thought it was funny :o) What a fabulous Christmas present, my son would love that too, Rhys did a great job and that's a great big smile on his face at the end! Your lavender bags look really beautiful, I would definitely buy those at a craft fair, hope it all goes well. Annie C #21

What a great present, something to experience and an axe at the end of it for cutting those logs. Love the material of the photo equipment bag, looks almost crochet/knitted. Finally I have sold all the lavender bags I made at CHristmas hope no one gives me any more lavender, gosh did it make me sneeze. Someone will be grateful of the blanket I am sure, just finished my second one this week. Not participating this week. Craftyani.

A fab post Jan and I don't mind a long one. The little gadget case is far nicer than any that you could buy and I bet G found it very useful - will look forward to seeing a few pics. I am amazed at the axe too - well done Rhys - what a triumph. Metal work is certainly tricky but no doubt very satisfying and good for the soul! xx Jo
