IF THIS JOINT IS RAIDED
SOMEBODY GIVE ME SOME GIN

(by the marvellous Andy Fairweather Low, google it if you don't know it, brilliant track!)

I'm going for three in a row of short and sweet posts...there's been more time socialising than crafting this week!

I'm part way through making some more specs cases and tissue holders - I found out last Friday that the cafe down the harbour will sell these for me and put the money straight into the RNLI tin. Brilliant, I get to do the fun part of making and someone else does the selling - woohoo!

G and I were invited to a Burns Night last Saturday - a table of 11 were going, all mates from the WI plus partners. I knew there was some tartan fabric knocking about in my stash:

Aha - found it!  There was enough to cut into wide-ish strips to make me a sash. There was no finesse in the making, I'm afraid, just whizzing through turned over hems. As G is half Scottish, he was due something a little more special:

A Royal Stuart tartan waistcoat and very fine he looked too. I held my sash together with a pewter brooch that my friend Kate gave me years ago. It was a great evening with a proper pipe band, haggis and whisky. Oh and some dancing too - Dashing White Sergeant anyone?!      :-D

My niece visited this week as well and, good girl, brought me a little prezzy:

Cute bottle, huh?! That's going to be upcycled into something soon.

Have a good week folks xx

You are busy, Lunch Lady Jan, do love the tartan, both of them, something about tartan really speaks to your heart doesn’t it?
...and I’m sure you both looked very smart in your outfits. Great work on making things too, those lovely glasses cases are so handy.
Happy WOYWW,

Hi Jan, That's great that the cafe will sell the items for you and put the money in the RNLI tin.

Your niece knows you well:)

Glad you enjoyed the Burns night celebrations. I've always loved tartan, but as far as I know I have no Scottish ancestors, so not entitled to wear it.

Happy WOYWW

If only there were more people out there willing to help with those charities, imagine how much more could be raised. Glad to hear you are having so much fun along the way Jan. Love the shape of that gin bottle, look forward to seeing what becomes of it, the bottle not the gin hee hee!!

OHMY... Haggis... realy? I got a bite once, from a gentleman that was right next to our table when I visited Edinburgh with a friend and we were talking about it... both too afraid to taste. The fellow heard us talking and offered us a bit... she didn't, I did. And...well... it wasn't bad at all, it's just knowing what it's made of that made me shiver... and I LOVE tartan (I'm an old Bay City Roller fan, hah!) Have a great week dear, love from Holland. I have to ask what is the significance of the satsumas with the gin bottle. I am intrigued. I can remember, years ago, on our first date, Geoff and I went to a fancy dress dance at the local college. As I had only just arrived home that afternoon from college in Yorkshire, it was a bit of an ask to russtle up a costume. I ended up chopping the bottom eight inches off a long tartan skirt, and whizzed up the edge to make a sash. I think I actually found a kilt pin to hold it together.

Well done for making and selling all those lovely items, and a great charity to benefit from them.

Your niece knows you so well Jan lol. I'm sure the bottle will be empty and ready for upcycling soon. Sounds like a fab Burns Night do. How great that you can focus on making things for fundraising rather than selling. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4

Lucky you, Jan, I can't remember the last time I went to a Burns Supper. We usually have a wee supper of haggis, neeps and mash here instead. There's always something appropriate on Scottish TV too. It's great that ypuvyo found an outlet for your RNLI makes - a win win for you. Not a fan of gin but I do like the shape of that bottle. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth X #29

Robbie Burns night! I'm going to one on Friday! I hope they have haggis and do the whole piping in thing, but it's really a reason for a clan birthday party since so many of us were born in January!I'm sure you got haggis! You did a brilliant job with your quickie outfits! Thanks for your visit, Lindart #25
