Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin'
Everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day, hey, hey, hey.

(I'm ever the optimist.... *grin*)
Another Wednesday, another desk to present for your delectation! I had a rummage in my fabric stash to see if there was anything suitable with which to make a jewellery roll - something that I could work on, that would stop the beads pinging off when I drop them...which, having fat fingers like I do, happens fairly frequently!! I found some tartan and black felt....
Sandwiched together with some quilting batting and finished off with a zig zag stitch...
Voila!! Not my most careful piece of sewing but it'll do. I roughly cut out 3 layers of rectangles using the straight lines of the tartan, didn't pin or baste, just ran the sewing machine around the edges. Shock horror!! Sorry if I've made you faint. I'm the same with cooking recipes, never stick to any of 'em, just lob in the ingredients with abandon. So I end up with glorious successes or fabulous failures!!! This task ended happily however - I can roll up my tools in it and then use it as a work surface...and it cost nowt!!
I had a good rummage around my jewellery and came up with this little lot which I'm going to recycle. See? I AM going to be good and not buy millions of new beads :D
Julia passed on a couple of things too. I've actually asked friends in band if they can have a search and then whatever they give to me, I'll make stuff to sell for band funds. We're always fund raising for something!!
Having said I wasn't going to buy anymore fabric until I'd used up some of my stash, I couldn't resist this - it was in the sale in Dible and Roy in Marlborough (my fav shop). I love the cool blues and the beach huts. I bought a couple of metres for not very much - PE bags for boys maybe? Or cushion covers?? Maybe both :) The thick piping cord was only 20p a metre, I think that's brilliant! What can you get for 20p these days???
We live fairly near Lacock (where they filmed Pride and Prejudice) - there was a series of sculptures to do with light in the Abbey grounds. This parasol moved around, so the patterns of light/shadow were forever changing - it was very calming and therapeutic...
I could happily live with that in my garden....but couldn't fit it in my handbag *grin* I do love rainbows though...they make me shiny-happy.
Just a quick reminder about the proposed WOYWW crop that Julia and I are trying to organise on 13th October. You might have missed her post so here's the link if you would like to come and meet a whole load of lovely folk!
See y'all next week xxxx

Hi Jan - what a happy post, and super piccies too.
Clever roll for your tools and jewellery making - it's about time I went through my beads etc. here - so will make sure they find their way to you. Snigger, you could regret this - buried under a mountain of donated beads :))
Happy WOYWW!

I'm staying with mad morti and coming on the 13th - must go check if I need to book/get a ticket, for the do - not morti's,
shiny happy rainbow stuff?? Niall and I were driving on the m25 once and a rainbow landed right next to our car (we were sat sitting in the car like we were stood standing in a car park type traffic jam)... any hoo, it is amazing because rainbow prism light kind of bounces up all around you and you go tingly and feel like you have been smiled on by all the gods and spiritual beings and that you are very blessed,
yes shiny happy is right, Niall said something about Physics and negative and positive IONS during storms and sunshine but i think it was fairies...
also
buy beads FFS life is too short to not have the beads you want...you can always starve your men and animals of a few meals...

Lovely post. I love rainbows too but my grandma taught me never to point at them!!!! Lovely jewels for your roll. Not entered woyww this week. Mum just gone home x
Love the new fabric n also love Malborough hvnt been there since February. The sculptures at lacock are fab saw pictures of them at work and thought they look great must go and visit. Hugs Pam x
love that ball tree, I would have been tempted to pop it i my bag too.
Anyway there is a brill beading mat to stop the beads popping about it would fit in your roll as it is. If you send me your address I will send you a piece

Machines do exact copies where would be the fun if we all did to? Happy to be part of a stealth party to one and help you kidnap the crystal tree as long as I can come and gaze lovingly at it every once in a while ;) WOYWW crop what a great idea, alas a husband at a job interview in New Zealand means I could be in extensive panic mode about October time............
I could live with it in my garden to Jan. I've already got strange things like old pressure gauges, an old manual typewriter, an anvil. Crikey it sounds like a scrapyard.
Have a good week
Lynn's Doodly Birds 74
Wishing I lived closer...a crop sounds like such fun. That would fit in my garden, but not in my bag neither!
Love that tree. Wish we could get to the crop but alas we looked into it and by the time we got there it would be time to go home.
Hugs,
A x #76
Fab and funky! love the glass tree. i've put my name down... see you in october! Helen 22
The jewellery roll is great! And I like your working method (have the same) :) Without experiments you can never have those glorious successes!
Also I am trying to work with the fabrics I already have... but it´s not easy - there are so many temptations ;)
Happy WOYWW!

another lovely project you've come up with. Wow to the tree with the balls, it must be lovely to sit and watch the light going through them. happy crafting jill #52
I can see why you couldn't pass that fabric by, it is lovely and summery (unlike our weather!!) I'm still wearing shorts to badminton though! I love rainbows too, though not sure about the crystal ball tree! Your jewellry roll is cool, I's sew like that a bit too (if I ever got the sewing machine out) but cooking!! If I don't have a recipe or packet instructions, I just can't do it! BJ#79
great post! Love the garden decorations. Friend of mine made a tree for her garden using a tree form and sticking wine bottles on it neck first. Really interesting reflections. I'll see if I can get her to send me a pic and I will forward it on. Not quite the same but something you could make. Vickie #67
Hi again, and thanks for visiting! Those strings of beads you saw in my pic, are from flea markets, and they are for re-using... if I only have heart to use them! That´s why they are hanging there ;)
Tuire xx
Oh that crystal tree is gorgeous! I'd love to have one in my garden, and rainbows always make me smile too. I've never found the pot of gold yet, but a smile is worth a lot more! Have fun with the new fabric...your talents always amaze me. Like you I'm always fundraising too, makes the heart smile...well done and keep smiling! Karen T 92 x
Love that jewellery roll and the beach hut fabric is stunning, I love it. Great lot of beads and things you have there, I can see you having lots of fun with that lot. That is one funky tree, great rainbows - pity the weather has not been better. I am still thinking about the crop, depends on a few things.........thanks for the visit earlier. Happy WOYWW, Anne x #9
Which Pride and Prejudice was filmed near your place? I think I have all the videos! I'm the exact opposite when it comes to recipes- I follow it exactly without tasting! So I also come up with successes or dismal failures! Last time I cooked i made my husband hummus and Mirza ghazemi. The hummus was ok, the mirza no one wanted to eat it but me! Wish i could join the WOYWW crop!!!! Patsy from
HeARTworks and
papemelroti
I WISH I could come to the crop but alas, too far. Yes why do they put all the negatives on tv for us who are looking for all those good stuff, ah well will look forward to it anyway yeeeha 9 days time.

So adding that garden to our list of places to visit. LOVE the crystal tree! I need some new photos for scrapping so thanks for the suggestion and sneaky peek. Not a big jewellry person (I don't even wear my wedding rings nowadays since I ripped it off my finger when I got the stone caught on the lip of the washing machine drum) but I can appreciate the roll nonetheless.
Happy WOYWW

First things first, how come you've got sunshine. Do you pay extra for that in the South!!!!! We've just got more wind and rain. Think the weather gods are trying to tell us Northerns something!!!!! We need to move South!!! lol. I love that bubble tree, it's stunning.
Love your jewellery roll, you clever lady. I shall have a rummage to see if I have any unloved beads anywhere for you.
I'm still working out whether I can slope off to the sunny south for a couple of days without the family noticing. I'd love to be at your crop.
Happy WOYWW
Hugs Lisax #97
You are so clever making that jewellery roll without pins. I can't sew a straight line with pins, lines and basting!! Love that fabric and even better when it's on sale. Love those garden ornaments, would love them in my garden too.
Have a great week.
Von #44
If only the sun really was shining Jan. Can’t believe that we are already half way thought July and it’s still been cold of an evening. May be you could make some jewellery rolls (fab idea by the way) that are much larger to keep us warm.
You have so much to share this week. I can see why you were drawn to that new fabric, it’s really fun isn’t it. The colouring is fab too.
I’m with you on the Crystal ball tree, the rainbows look amazing.
Happy Crafting!

There is something so special about rainbows and that little tree is wonderful. Your "makes" this week are fun too - love the seaside fabric. x Jo
The beach hut fabric & crystal tree are great. Happy WOYWW - Helen T #112
I didn't faint :) I have however decided that I want a rainbow tree - how cool is that?!
Thanks for sharing,
Laura

Love that fabric and since I learnt how to put piping onto cushions, I would bite your arm off for that at 20p per metre!
See you in October
Jakix
I think I need a rainbow tree too...
LOVE that you used my favouritest song ever as your title this week, Mr Blue Sky, ELO. I was 5 when that was released..... hur hur hur....
I'm still chuckling over Doone's comments. And yes, she's staying with me for the big WOYWW do. LOL. Seems I might have to hide the Copics though cos she's planning mayhem with them.....tee hee.... And I also have beads coming out of my ears - I shall have to send some your way too!
Yep, that's some pretty cheap fabric. And I see you haven't gone too far off the deep end with your new fun adventure of jewelry making, even if it IS for charity.
I would love that rainbow tree, too. That'll teach you to carry a bigger purse.
You asked if I printed the image for the quiltlet I made. It was real sheet music, a real sticker, and a real piece of wallpaper I fussy cut. I'm not one to waste money on printer ink when I can use the real thing (grin).
Wow, cool raindow tree, does it work in rain????
Love the material Jan, it's very nautical.
Happy WOYWW xx
Oooh fab pictures and your cooking sounds a lot like mine! Love the material think you definately needed it! Thanks for sharing - Sunshine Girl No. 58
Again I didn’t join in this week but thought I would visit a few blog friends …life is a little upside down still. No wonder you could not resist the fabric ...it is so you.xx
That roll is a very good idea....certainly will stop beads from rolling off the table and on to the floor. A beading hazard that is such a pain...specially if you step on them with bare feet:)
oh my gosh I NEEEEEED that crystal ball tree in my garden. That is possibly the most fabulous thing i've seen in ages!!!
(and i'm with Doone......if you need beads, you need beads....!!!) Trish #78
Hi Jan - I read your sunny song about 10 minutes after we had hailstones in Derby!! Thanks for popping in to see me. That fabric is pretty - I understand the purchase!! How did you manage to get out on a sunny day? The crystal ball tree is fab. Looks like a fun display. WOYWW Hugs from Helen 18
Hi, thanks for commenting on my blog - I think "stitching in the ditches" means stitching over where you have already sewn on the front of the quilt - but I could be wrong! sounds good though doesnt it! and also makes me feel rather knowledgeable which really doesnt happen very often (if ever at all actually!).
I'm loving those pics. I've got the meet up in my diary and will do my utmost to get there. Might even have a run your way during school hols cos it's not far really. Take care, am not doing WOYWW this week, not been too good so there isn't anything on my desk to see! Zo xx
Can I bring spare beads to the October meet and swap for a beading mat made of scraps what you roll your tools up in, it looks fab ;)
** Kate **
Gorgeous photos, Jan - I love your jewellery roll project, and the beautiful fabric and cord too. The beach huts look more like tents, and reminded me of the Field of the Cloth of Gold lol! Yes, I think I could live with a tree in the garden that made rainbows everywhere! What fun. That inverted image photo is amazing! I love Lacock Abbey - it was where I first joined the National Trust, many years ago. I had a lovely visit there with my mum.
Thanks for your lovely comment - loved all the sound effects depicting me having fun with my new inks! It's so lovely to have your beautiful pincushion close at hand, with pins ready for unblocking my glues and stickles! Funny how I didn't know I needed it until you sent it. It's so pretty and I really love it! So glad you liked the drawing of it that I did on your ATC! I had suuuch fun doing that one.
Have a great holiday.
Happy WOYWW,
Shoshi #3
We've had such beautiful weather in Manchester today. Your song clearly made it happen! I'm glad you're reducing, reusing and recycling; very green. Or black and white, but you know what I mean!
Thank you so much for visiting. Now you've said it, I can totally see India in the colours on my journal. Not sure why either, but there you are!
cheers, rachel #7
I adore that beach hut material - just right for our new bathroom. I shall keep my eyes peeled for something similar with a bit more red. You are such an enabler Jan!! xx
That fabric is gorgeous! They'll be amazing PE bags if that's what the fabric becomes! Great workmat for beading too. I struggle to even thread my sewing machine so I'm dead impressed at your ability just to whip something like that up! Lovely pictures too - that crystal tree is fab!
oops forgot to say happy WOYWW from no. 87 (at least I was last time I checked!)
you are clever making that jewelry roll and what fab pics, love the crystal tree, hoping to be at the crop, thanks for visiting me
kay #65
What a pretty jewelry roll!
And such a lovely outdoor space!! :)
Mary Jo #119
Hi Jan love that tree and your bargain material find. Tartan is my favourite material of all and there are plenty beads there waiting for recycling. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of Wednesday. Hugs Erika #100
hmmmmmm, still trying to figure out a way to justify a plane ticket to go to the WOYWW crop, I swear I would if I could! lol You ladies are so lucky to live near each other! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :) #50
The crop is a smidge out of my way; however if the private jet is back from the shop... I never did understand those lawn crystal balls but this is a crystal ball tree and makes rainbows! Love the beach hut fabric! I can totally see why you couldn't leave it behind.
Would love to make the crop but one journey south this year is about as much as I can manage. Love your jewellery roll and haul ... a good source of old usable costume jewellery are charity shops. Gorgeous photos, and that reminds me that I've still to post the second week of our holiday - we visited Lacock Abbey too. Happy WOYWW, Elizabeth x #75
love the fabric you went with for the jewellery roll and also the beach huts are just fabulous! gorgeous light sculptures, wouldn't' mind them in my garden either. The crop sounds fun, alas I cannot venture across the pond for a crop!
Debxx
Hi LLJ,
Drats, can't come to the crop.... oh but I know you'll have a great time! You have quite a great collection of beads there! Great idea to recycle what you don't use.
Thanks for stopping by my place already!
Hugs,
Kay #36
Love your jewelry roll and your photos are fab. Thanks for stopping by. #30
A little extra time this PM..wow I'm in heaven. Love all your photos, always so many interesting subjects you cover. Oh a fun crop it sounds like do enjoy it.
Have fun with all your fund raisers and Happy WOYWW. #154
Love your tartan fabric. I'd have to measure twice and cut once, though. Same with paper. What are you going to do with the beads? Happy WOYWW!
Oh my you are a busy beaver, on the go doind stuff for others all the time. Pity you couldn't fit it in your handbag the tree that is, I wonder if I will fit in mine, I like it heaps. Bit far to travel though.... LOL
TTYS Eliza #11 again
Hi Jan brilliant make and I particularly like the tartan! I recently became the owner of a sewing machine and look forward to using it on a small scale. I have not used a sewing machine since I was in my late teens, which was many years ago !! My mum, who was a tailoress, is going to give me some tips. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to seeing more of your fab creations. Crafty hugs Annie x
Like the black and white tartan mat! great idea! Can't wait to start seeing your makes from the recycled jewelry. And I'm not suprised you couldn't resist the beach hut fabric, it's lovely! Love the crystal ball tree too, that would look good in my garden :o) x April #89
thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, jenx 149
That jerwellery is so much noicer than teh bit of green foam i work on. I love recycling jewellery - I've bought some great pendant pieces from charity shops. I'm really looking forward to meeting you on 13th Oct.
I am with you on the crystal ball tree, just gorgeous. Must be lovely to sit under it and have rainbows reflecting all over you. You come up with such wonderful sewing ideas and names for plants. She is now officially known as Audrey.
Sandra @31
Nice stash of jewellery for de-constructing there Jan and I love turquoise.
Would love that parasol sculpture n my garden but then I wouldn't get anything else in it.
Thanks for visiting yesterday - I'm a bit late getting round this week,
Ann B

Now that is a good idea :o)
Love the fabric and visiting Lacock. We got the children there by playing the Harry Potter card. I don't think P and P would cut any ice with them!
Fiona x
Love that new fabric and can see why you bought it. It would make great beach bags! If ever we need one of those again!
I am definately coming on 13th. I have even turned down an afternoon at the races to come. I know it will be more fun with you and Julia and the likes of the WOYWW gang!
xx
love the fabric, both the tartan and the beach one. Need to get some fabric to play with. Little Miss A has a brand new buggy, but now i need to look for cosytoes as all the pram ones are way too big for it. Of course, once I have the fabric I then need to learn to sew....but I already have the tools so that has to be OK...right???? lol ...
caroline #63
Very fine jewelry roll, looks great to me--and I definitely understand about giving in to the new fabric, so cute!
Now, will that garden art fit in MY handbag???? ;)
:)trisha #153 this week, showing two desks!
oh what a super idea for jewelry!! love your work!!!
Good for you, recycling beads! Is the crystal ball tree designed after the orange ball tree? Sounds like you're being good and productive! Have a great WOWW!
Lisa
(at the bottom of the list)
Thanks for all the lovely photos and for sharing your jewellery. Some great colours in there - bet they look even better in real life. I'd be pleased with the roll and I do love the fabric.
Thanks for sharing - Hugs, Neet 71 xx
