MY PRECIOUSSSS....

I love colour, spots and sparkle and whenever I succumb to another little purchase, I then find it extremely hard to use some of it!!  The spottiness of the cute buttons, the gingham-iness of the ribbons....sigh.  So, I was a big, brave gal and managed to let two buttons out of my grasp to provide the finishing touch to my friend's doorstop.  It's for her little girl's bedroom, so she's worth it!

Mind you, I only used the little ones...... the biggest ones on the desk are still mine, all mine *grin*...

Here's my part of my stash of ribbony gorgeousnessnessness - mmmmmmmmmmmm
The doorstop underneath, on the left, is an early prototype which I use for holding down slippery fabrics when I'm cutting out - really useful!  The pink/flowery material is a tryout for a specs case, all padded and squishy.  Also there's a roll of bias binding that I use as bunting tape.  I love making bunting, it's quite soothing as it's so repetitive.  I think it's a bit like Transcendental Meditation.  Hmm. there's a good title for a book 'Zen and the Art of Bunting'.....

Below is fabric from a fat quarter bundle that I bought from Fabricland.  The camera doesn't do it justice, they're really funky and a bit of a departure for me.  I'm making myself a tote bag out it and am using some more ribbon!!  Hey, I've already used some buttons, let's live a little :)  It's going to be lined in either plain black OR black with white spots - what do you think?

I'm a mad keen gardener as well - and look at what I spotted growing in my greenhouse the other day.  A rare hybrid known as Harry the Mog!! 'What me?' he's saying, 'I'm just keeping your compost warm!'

That's it from me, I'm off to count my buttons.......!

I think we are very similar :-) I have so much stash I just can't bring myself to use [cos of course I wont have it to stroke then].
Do you fill your door stops with sand? They are really pretty.

Yes lunch Lady Jan, I do love the funky 70's look to those pieces ready for your bag very mcuh reminds me so much of the era, sooo long ago and adore your spotty buttons and the doorstop.. yummo!..

And not have not seen the Lindisfarne gospels but have seen a life-size replica at British Library, as well some other mazing pieces drooled sooo much! went been there 3 times in 2 different visits to England and also to the John Ryland Library in Manchester, it has some amazing pieces and also saw the book of Kells in Dublin. And so agree with what you said! God bless,Shaz in Oz.x

Black with spots. Just because you can. I agree with Wipso. You're very similar, I mean, look how carefully colour co-ordinated your ribbon is. I have vintage buttons for you to rake through. Harry looks as though he's saying 'Oi!, no pictures!'

Discovered your blog through WOYWW - you've made me laugh out loud at your comments about using your stash. Loving your work.

I always marvel at how they managed to leap up, over and in without knocking every thing flying!

I definitely think you should write Zen and the Art of Bunting :D I'd buy it on the title alone!

I am seriously having to de-stash at the moment and I am at the stage of just sitting cuddling it all and rocking back and forth - how do I let any of it go? Much stroking and 'it's not you, it's me' chatter to it all.

Love your rare hybrid but glad you can't grow them or I would be over-run (cat lover). Great ribbon stash and what a lovely doorstop. So glad you have joined in again. Hooked?

Another OCD button hoarder... I have to really love a piece to donate my prize orphans... always a struggle. Love the door stop - looks so well made and chunky. Just want to pick it up right now!

So glad you are still here! Love your fabrics - and I know where you are coming from with giving stuff away... hence I am drowing in clutter (and stash)

What is it about black & white cats that they like to hide in buckets, boxes, and other (often inconvenient) places?! *lol*
I would spend hours just touching your fabrics and ribbons... and there is nothing better than the sound of lots of buttons rattling softly against each other - reminds me of childhood days with my gran and her button box :)

Fabulous doorstop Jan! And I know just what you mean about hanging onto things we specially love purely for the pleasure of playing with them. I found a neighbour's cat inside our greenhouse about a month ago - naughty Penny had got herself in through one of the automatic rooflights and couldn't get out again - talk about a champagne cork out of a bottle when I opened the door! I now do regular 'Moggy Patrols'. Off to play with my button box now! Di xx

I too love buttons. I too love spots. I am working on buying myself a sewing machine so I can sew miles and miles of bunting. Love that too. Guess what, I also love gardening and found a cat nestling in some unused weed control matting. However I don't love cats I'm afraid so had to remove his bed. Ahhhhh.

Thanks for sharing all that loveliness. I'm a bit of a button hoarder too, can't bear to part with them esp the vinatge ones. I've always wanted to make one of those doorstops! :)x

I so know that feeling. Can't, won't, shan't let go. No its all mine to drool over. Plain black I think for the linning otherwise you'll be forever trying to turn it inside out to see the spots! Love that door stop by the way. Hugs Monkey & Mrs A. #88

Okay confession time,

I once agonised for AN HOUR over 'letting' a button go onto a piece of work that was leaving me and going to a new home.

It was nothing to do with anything other than every time I sorted through my buttons I would pause at that particular one and 'love it' for a while before moving on,

see I still grieve that it is now lost to me...

I am Sooo Sad.

I think we all get a little possessive about stash whether it is fabric, papers, buttons or embellishments!! That is why I have so many fat quarters!!

Elizabeth said...

Well, if you can bear to part with it I'd say black/white spots for the lining - love the fabric. It would seem that it doesn't matter whether you work with fabric or paper the condition remains the same - once it your's, it's always yours! As a self-confessed ribbonaholic, I treasure my ginormous collection and have to force myself to use any of it. Love the home-grown moggie :) Elizabeth x #99

Oooh that doorstop is so cute! I suck at fabric crafts so am always in awe of those with talent in those areas. I do however share your difficulty with actually using all my pretty stash... I'm a firm believe in the paper-buying motto of always buying two sheets of everything - "One to stroke and one to scrap"!

Thanks for your comment on my blog. The "experiment" was made by stamping the flower image in Versamark (clear) ink then heat embossing with opaque white embossing powder, then spritzing over this with three colours of Adirondack Colour Wash and leaving to dry. :)

Ah yes, buttons and ribbons are a thing of mine too... along with paper and stamps and glitter and lovely coloured ink pads and, and, and! Love the fabrics and I think black and white also. Great book title, made me laugh out loud! You should have started blogging years ago, think of all the love and humour you could have passed along! I feel like I've been missing out, lol!

Ooooh, love the ribbons!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog - I do use a lot of CK fabric, I love it!! Where we live we are about equidistant from the Chichester and Winchester branches, then of course there is the new outlet at Gunwharf which is where I usually get fabric (or tablecloths to cut up) as they have good discounts!!
