WHO PUT THE COLOURS IN THE RAINBOW?

I seem to have spent the past week messaging and chatting - it helps me to keep in touch with people, whether they want me to or not, lol!

A little more crafting has been done, some sewing in fact:

I'm making a present so can't show you exactly what it is yet but that blue fabric box is part of it - it's now all finished and amazingly I remembered to take a photo before packing it all up! I was quite impressed with myself, little victories and all that.... On the desk is my new Fiskars Rotary cutter (a Christmas prezzy) which is fantastic and very very sharp, I will have to keep fingers out of the way!

I'm crocheting granny squares out of the yarn that I have left as it all tones nicely apart from the orange and am wondering whether to border them all in white or that lemon, will just have to experiment with both and then decide!

As part of my DIB (Do It Badly) kick, I was having a play with the watercolours after watching a YouTube tutorial. I should have used a bigger brush so the effect was looser but it's all a learning curve eh?  I'll use it for a card or something...

The following day was grey and drizzly:
So I did another tutorial on negative space which did my head in at first...

I quite liked the outcome but decided that they looked better chopped up to make cards!

Hope you're all keeping safe and well, it's good to know that Shaz is back home after her stay in hospital. Please get in touch if you fancy a chat, as I've said before, it's a skill *grin*

Have a good week xxxxxxx

Awh Jan yours was the first desk visit of the day and it was meant to be.
It’s such a happy place and also you’ve unknowingly reflected some thoughts that were in my head.
I’m thinking of doing a variety of creative things now that I’ve cleared the way to my desk.
I’m also looking round for an online course to do. Not sure what subject yet, The right one will present itself eventually.
Id like to pinch your of DOING IT BADLY. I’m chuckling at the thought of a big pile of stuff all done badly lol.
Have a lovely week and stay safe

I remember reading that you used to do watercolours so this post shows us that you have not lost the touch. Love the negative paintings especially. Now as you chopped them up and they going to be cards it rather destroys the claim on Julia's post! You can and do make cards - and a lovely range of skills and media is employed too. Wish I had your talents.
Looking forward to the reveal of that box.
Stay safe and well my lovely
Hugs, Neet 17 xx

Morning lovely lady! I like the idea of DIB, we all worry too much about screwing things up. However, I have yet to see any evidence that you do anything badly!! My DIB is to actually try some new recipes. Not a natural cook, I have found the endless cooking and planning food shopping so as to limit trips the biggest challenge of lockdown - and everyone is home all the time!! I have taken to announcing in the morning via our family whatsapp what I plan to cook for dinner with the option of SYO (Sort Yourself Out) if they don't fancy it. Despite my family of rather fussy eaters (OH does not eat rice or pasta!!) I am doing quite well, actually using some of those spices in the cupboard and clean plates every night.(Could be they are just so bored they'll eat anything). Last night's lamb ragu was a great success even though lamb is not a favourite with anyone except me. (I had to cook sausages for hubby. His idea of SYO is beans on toast every night. He did grudgingly say he might eat it without the pasta.) I can't believe that is the only fabric you have!! It's like me saying I only have 1 paper pad...... Big hugs, stay well, stay safe, Cindy #14

Oh beautiful gentle fine water colouring! How like you to create a scene and then be practical about what to do, so chop it up. I must say, they look great and will indeed make great cards! I don’t think you’ve got enough white yarn to do a border...oh shucks, an order may be necessary!! It’s a wet grey day here today. Lucky there’s a shed load of stuff too do, huh!

I love your watercolours, the little circle of foliage is so delicate and pretty and I love the winter trees. I have to say my head spins when I start thinking about negative space - for me it's mainly with lino cutting, but you've done a great job and I'm glad to see the lady who doesn't make cards is planning her next batch!!
Have a good week and stay safe and well my dear gal,

You do very little "badly" LLJ! I love your watercolour, it's so light and delicate. And that you are thinking "It could be a card" is a real testament to WOYWW and its insidious spreading of crafty obsession. Next you will be buying a gel plate...
Don't laugh yet, it could happen!

Happy WOYWW, with a late start

Your paintings are beautiful Jan especially the negative space ones-so atmospheric. The crochet is such a burst of colour on a dreary day. Keep safe.

Hi Jan. Well, where to start?! Your paintings are brilliant - which I could do it as badly as you do!!! Yup - messaging, texting, phoning... all helps make the day go with a swing, and keeps us in touch with one another. One day last week I think I spent over 5 hours on the phone - and I never made a single call! I have currently not been attending our church services, so it is good to keep up with folks in other ways - and as yet, even with my new computer coming together, I still haven't got zoom... one of the next things on my to-do list - which I have to say, is not getting any shorter.
I love those blanket colours - the orange and yellow do go - they are in that random wool. I personally, would probably outline in cream rather than white, as I find white is sometimes too stark for what I am trying to achieve.
Do take care of yourselves. God bless.

Aaah...still busy and full of ideas and plans - lovely to see you Jan! The grannies make my fingers itch but my arm isn't up to crocheting yet and I don't think I have enough nice, colour-and-thickness fitting yarn in my stash. Oh well, I enjoy looking at your photos! The cards are awesome too, love that winter landscape! In the Netherlands the government is terrified the 'English mutatant' will cross the North Sea (it did already, but most of the covid patients are still 'the old virus' and that one doesn't spread as quickly...) The lockdown here was extended with three weeks and they started with vacination, but I assume it will take a long time still before we can breathe and go out again... I'm happy to be able to 'meet online' and can you believe i even 'skyped' with my son?! Waaaahhhh.... you take care now dear. STay happy, healthy and safe! Big hug-from-a-distance! Marit #31

Deyar Jan!
You are always good for a surprise! There is a new project on the sewing table. A secret surprise...you'r chrocheting granny squares and you started to paint with the water colors.
When I was younger, I loved painting with these colors. Especially on eggs.
And on "Shaz Blog" I found the solution to the riddle: HOORAY!! Now I know what means WOYWW !! This means:
What is On Your Workdesk Wednesday! ♥
It was a mystery to me...
Best wishes to you!

Your watercolours are stunning, Jan! I love the bright granny squares too and look forward to seeing the blanket. Thank you for your visit, and I'm glad you're enjoying the progress of the kitty throw. I deliberately bought 4-ply thickness because that's the thickness I usually work with, and doubling it up for DK is very simple with my little cone winder, and it gives you much more scope than buying separate thicknesses.

Happy WOYWW,

Hi Jan, I love your watercolours. It’s so weird the way you have to paint watercolour backwards and negative space is the weirdest.
Your granny squares will make a lovely blanket.
Stay safe and happy WOYWW

Jan, Jan, Jan .... if that is Doing It Badly, there is no hope for the rest of us - my Do It Well efforts will never match your Do It Badly standard lol. The watercolour is lovely, as are the chopped up cards - which will be perfect! "I don't make cards" ... I don't think you can claim that anymore! Pretty granny squares - a bit smaller project than your rainbow blanket. Glad you like my honorary Jan Blan - I didn't half have a giggle when I christened it. I'm having fun with the journal - sorry, Doodle Book as I have just renamed it (can't call it a journal after seeing Helen's new one - not even in the same league). How long I keep it up remains to be seen - good fun finding quotes and practising artistic lettering - my version of Do It Badly. Have a lovely week, Heather xx #18

Hi, Jan!

Love your watercoloring! I have been hooked on that too! I'll have to look for a tutorial on negative space. I have seen some articles about leaving spaces white and unadorned, but not using color. Your round one is beautiful! I have only been watercoloring my stamped images, nothing from scratch yet. I need to trust myself a bit more and use a bigger brush... I think.

Glad you mentioned Shaz. I have been concerned and wondering about her.

Stay safe and Happy Wednesday

Kathryn

Jan, you are so funny! I have never heard of the DIB, but I should probably get in on that little ditty and maybe hold an office in that club! LOL Hey, I think you are doing great and it's all about how you feel whilst doing it and if it brings you joy, well done! LOL Really love the trees. Trees are my fave! Right up there with birds! I think they are going to make fabulous cards! :) Love the granny squares and because I think you can never have too much color, I'm all for the lemon-yellow baby! LOL Sooooo glad to hear Shaz is out of the hospital. Will go over an give her online hugs! :) Blessings to you Jan and stay safe! Felicia #33

To answer your question, I'd have to say, God! Love colours, love rainbows.

Oooo the little fabric box is so precious, love it already.
The crochet is going well, I quite like the orange actually.
Super paintings, maybe I should give some tutorials a go there.

So you DO make cards! LOL

Oh and my December 2019 photos of out last "ever" trip to Wales we actually were in the arcade at the end of the pier in Mumbles. I'll be scrapping that in due course.

Thanks for the visit BJ#6

Wow Jan, I think you Did It Brilliantly - that little watercolour piece is just beautiful. It's a good idea though, to give ourselves permission to not worry about how it turns out and just enjoy having a go and learning along the way. Maybe I'll do the same but call it "HAG" - having a go! :) Have a great week. Annie C #34
