 YOU KNOW I'M BAD.....

Happy New Year folks, it's going to be tricky still especially with the new lockdowns, but I am very grateful for family, friends and the ease of communication and keeping in touch.

Oh, and crafting! Though I haven't done a huge amount this week to be honest.

The JanCave has been emptied of tech and now looks like its old self again:

This, would you believe, is the sum of my quilting cotton stash, I have a few pieces of furnishing weight fabric as well, but that's it. I had a Hobbycraft voucher as a Christmas prezzy so I need to get ordering!

And this is the sum of my yarn! After dumping (sorry, repurposing...) my chunky yarn on Twiglet, I was left with DK. The rainbow blanket was snaffled by my son so I've been doing 2x rib beanie with the pink variegated, this will go in the charity box. I would like to buy more yarn from my local shop but they're all shut at the moment.

Son No 1 and I did my jigsaw of the boys, it was tricky, we resorted to grouping the pieces by shape. I might mount this on card or board and put it on the JanCave walls because this is one I won't be doing again, lol!! My lad left to go back to his home after being in our bubble, good timing before the new lockdown starts. It was so lovely to have him with us for those few weeks, worth giving up my workroom for xx

And the reason for the Song Lyric today? I read an article about positive things to help you get through the dark months until Spring and one of them was Do It Badly. It made me stop in my tracks, but what it meant was have a go at anything and don't worry if you do it badly, or the picture in your head doesn't quite match up with the reality, just have a go and enjoy the pleasure of creating something. It rang a bell with me, I used to paint and draw quite a bit and haven't really done any for years. Hence why my old paints are out while I check what state everything is in!

I'm just going to have some fun with no particular purpose in mind!  And if I Do It Badly, well, the world will still turn!

Have a good week and if you want a chat, gimme a shout - talking is a skill of mine....*grin*

Morning Jan, yay I beat you to the pass! Sorry O has gone home to lockdown but I love the jigsaw they gave you.
Absolutely agree with “do it badly” as you know. Like me and the free chocolates when I spoke French in Bruges shops aged 12.
As B just commented though, you can take it too far “...or govern the country”😏
I’ll look forward to seeing your drawings. I still have one of a condor you did for me a long while ago.
Take care, stay safe and happy WOYWW

Hi Jan, You definitely need to stock up on fabric and yarn.

That jigsaw has to be a keeper on your wall.

Have fun with your paints.

Happy WOYWW

Oh well done! It looks fab. I think you should NOT mount it, but make it a holiday tradition to put it together every year with one or both of the boys, and make it a challenge. Time yourselves and see if you can beat the clock each year LOL!

I have tidied my desk in my craft room and now need to sort out my yarn and sewing room stash. It is a tip. I have been watching organizing videos and have lots of ideas but I just hate buying storage online. I know what I need but it's just no fun and I always end up getting the wrong...something. Size or type of closure or something. Bah! I think that beanie is lovely. I could knit 100 from my stash. Maybe I will once I get the last few inches of the sleeves done on my current jumper!
Damn you WOYWW - it is just too inspiring, the project pile up every week...
:)

Happy WOYWW 2021!

What a fab jig- saw - I would definitely frame it - it would be a real mood lifter when you get back in the Jan cave! I like the idea of "Doing it badly" - although I must admit it has never stopped me in the past. Good or bad - as long as I enjoy it I will give it a go!! Keep smiling! xxx Jo

There’s something about Wednesdays that is starting to feel very special to me Jan.
It’s clicked today for some reason. I’ve started revamping my space as I wasn’t using it and now I’m starting to feel connected.
Reading your post and others it’s like being together having a cuppa.
Thanks Jan.

Sorry I didn't get to leave messages last week [I did read all my favourite blogs though]. Thankfully the side effects from my injection have just about worn off now [it's taken all week though :-(].
I really love your jigsaw...def worth framing and having it somewhere you will see it often.
I love the do it badly theory....if only I wasn't such a perfectionist eh? :-)
Stay safe and well.

Hello Jan, love the jigsaw. It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas with your family with lots of lovely memories to keep. And more fun on the way spending your Christmas gift card with hobbycraft - what joy!, Hugs, Sue #21 xx

Great minds - sort paint! How strange we both moved in that direction. I've my watercolours to sort out yet but there are nowhere near as many as there are of the acrylics. My oils were given to my son a long time ago so no worries about them.
It will be good to see you back to painting, hope you do some and show us.
Lovely to see the jigsaw - gosh it is huge but what a wonderful gift to receive. I can fully understand you thinking of mounting it on the wall of the Jan Cave - great idea and lovely to keep glancing up at.
Happy New Year to you all, stay safe and well,
Hugs, Neet 17 xx

Hi Jan, having the jigsaw on your Jan cave wall will certainly put a smile on your face every time you look at it. I'm amazed how light your stash is - both the yarn and the fabrics. How's the cross stitching progressing? That must have been wonderful to have both sons at home for Christmas. I'm thankful that I got a few hours with all my family, as who knows when I will see them again. I can live by the Do It Badly motto - who knows if they will like something or be good at it, until they try. I would not have put myself down as a crocheter at all - but I've taken to it like a duck to water lol (not saying I will produce anything of decent quality, but I am trying). Have a lovely week, and I'll take you up on the offer of a 'chat' sometime soon, hugs Heather xx #14

Yes, yes, yes, just do it any way! That's my motto too, though I don't always live up to it. Loving the textile explosion on your desk and the jigsaw is very near complete. Be careful mounting it on anything flimsy though because it will likely warp (been there, done that) unless it's something quite sturdy like MDF board. I stuck mine directly on the wall, but I'm not sure if it will hold - it's still just a big experiment. They also sell frames, so you don't have to stick the pieces together, but they're so expensive! It's definitely worth preserving though! Good luck and let us know how you go about it. It took me three years to work up the courage to do my last one - although now I'm literally stuck with it LOL (on my blog today!) Happy New Year, Jan! Glad you got the Jan cave back! xx zsuzsa #26

My word, you are running rather low on fabric! Quick! Buy more! I have about 3 RUBs of knitting wool - two 35L capcity and one 48L capacity. I really don't knit enough.... :( Would you like some sent?

It'll be lovely to see what painting you do - I can see a whole new range of Christmas Cards coming everyone's way...

Happy WOYWW!

We must be the same age! I've already made and wrapped cards and gifts for all my school friends that I'm in contact with and a couple of Kevin's friends too.

I like that, “Do it badly!” And it’s easy to remember. It will be my new motto, I think. Kind of like, just get moving.... Your lack of “stuff” makes me sad, how does that happen? I’m still going through “stuff” after the leak, and trying, really trying to purge the herd! But still have so much!

Stay well, have a good week!

Happy Wednesday!

I would definitely save that jigsaw and make a piece of wall art. I’ve started a new one from 2019 and it will go on my workroom wall when I finally finish it. That’s so lovely that your son wanted the blanket-always nice when family want something you have made.

The jigsaw is great, Jan. Before you mount it, hop over to my blog and read what Zsuzsa says about it in her comment - you could save yourself from making a disaster! I love the bright pink variegated yarn - how fun is that!! With my huge yarn stash, I felt a bit guilty recently buying a whole lot more, but it's always the way - you have loads of stuff but never the exact thing you want! You've got a lovely collection of paints there, too.

Happy belated WOYWW,

Dear Jan!
Happy New Year to you and all other friends too!♥
The jigsaw on the wall - it's always nice to remember the time you put it together.
Time of Lockdown is hard for those, having not enough fabric or yarn on stock.
I'm always like a little hamster with my fabric treasures.
But I'm so happy, when the stores are open again!!!
Like Pharell Williams Song: I'm so happy!
Keep on crafting ( in the Jan Cave ). And stay well.

Looks like your paints kit is fine and ready to go! agent to it gal, you’ll really enjoy it. The puzzle of the boys is just fabulous. I’m all for hanging it but also, panic, what if you do want to do it again?!! You might! Since we talked, I’ve taken on a scrapbook challenge and the first LO has to involve stitching. I was lying in bed last night thinking about it and it struck me...I shall preserve your Christmas card (stitching, check) and be able to immortalise your words about not being a card maker for the title. Brilliant inspiration Missus!! Xxx
