THERE'S A WORLD OUT THERE WAITING FOR ME....

After the dearth of proper crafting in last week's blog, the JanCave has actually seen some sewing action this week - the cooler weather has meant less sitting out of doors that's for sure, though the garden does look a lot better for the rain.

Isn't it funny how ideas pop into your head from nowhere? I hadn't been thinking about sewing anything in particular apart from some more masks for friends, but the arrival of the oriental fabric last week stirred my mojo....

especially this one:
I just adore this floral colourway, it's so pretty! I had a moment of inspiration and thought I'd make a jewellery wallet for myself after making quite a few for friends. So, that's what I did when it was raining. I'm just going to do some topstitching on the pocket here, the internal zipped pocket has already been done.

General view of the desk! I'd also finished off some specs cases and they're ready to put away until needed. Twiglet's lovely needle case is up ready to be filled though it'll live downstairs in my crochet/knitting/embroidery box.

A little cumulus cloud of stuffing - this is the bit I DETEST (sorry for shouting there...) Honestly I take my hat off to toy makers who have to stuff the teensiest limbs etc, I'd lose the will to live. The ring sausage is bad enough! (that's quite enough sniggering from you Jo, I know you are, don't deny it!)

All the prep work takes the time, the actual sewing up is quite straightforward and before you know it:
A little jewellery case that looks a bit like a clutch bag, it's easier to use than a roll and the contents don't get crushed.

It opens up into three segments and has room for more jewels than I possess! The strip of lace is for putting your dangly earrings in, it works surprisingly well for a low tech idea. All I need now is somewhere to go.....and that may take some time, lol!

Some happy mail arrived yesterday - a gorgeous selection of buttons from my mate Lynne! Thank you so much, dear old pal, they will be used for all sorts of projects but the Hokusai Wave ones are mine, all mine - mwahahahahahaha.....

So that's it, I've borrowed some ballpoint needles from my friend Helen and am going to alter the shoulders of a new top that arrived this week. I really like it but it looks better just lifted up an inch or two - see how it goes anyway!

Have a great week and keep safe and well. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

what a very pretty jewellery case! I wonder how long you will keep those fabulous buttons before you use them (can see why you will keep them for yourself!) Helen #?

Absolutely gorgeous little jewellery case, Jan. I’m afraid I’d need a mammoth one for all my beads and baubles - I never can resist jewellery! I do need to make myself some kind of jewellery organiser because years of rummaging in a dressing table drawer is really doing my head in and I even forget what I’ve got sometimes! The Oriental fabric is a dream - I’d love the URL for that site if you could share it!

Ooh I love that jewellery bag and the fabric is gorgeous - I can see why you chose it. I've just popped back in time to see your collection of oriental fabrics from last week - Wow, aren't they stunning, I wouldn't be able to choose a favourite, I love them all! The buttons are fab and I love the wave ones too - very in keeping with your current theme.
Hope you have a lovely week, stay safe and well,
Hugs, Diana xx #5

Morning Jan,
That Chinese inspired material has made a beautiful jewellery pouch, now you just need to be able to go on holiday to take your jewellery with you.
Thanks for sharing

Oh what a lovely stitchy post Jan. That fabric is yummy and perfect for your jewellery roll. Of course I was chuckling at your difficulty stuffing the sausage - Annie and I have a handy tool for it! Your wave buttons are beautiful - never seen those before. Have a happy stitchy week - really missed not being able to see everyone at the crop - lets hope we can get together in the Autumn. xxx Jo

Morning Jan. That fabric is stunning! The finished case is lovely - I don't think I possess sufficient jewellery to justify anything like that - I'm just not a jewellery person, really - although I confess to wearing the heirloom brooch for the VE Day celebrations... Fabulous buttons - loving the ones in the bag!!
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

I'm guessing you're making 3 layered face masks Jan as I heard that's what they are insisting on in Wales. I love your jewellery bag...do you not have a pair of artery forceps for stuffing?...do let me know.
Love the new buttons.

The weather's been amazing hasn't it. We had the paddling pool out and pretended we were abroad!!! Hence no crafting.
Love your oriental fabric, it's perfect for your new case. It's nice to make something for yourself isn't it. I have masks coming out my ears but everyone has been very grateful for them so all worthwhile.
Had to pass on the buttons very quickly though, made me cringe.....yes I know I'm weird as I'm constantly being told.
Have a good week and lets hope the nice weather returns, although the garden seems to have grown overnight with the rain. So needed.

As soon as I saw that fabric i thought "cheongsam" if that is the right word for a Chinese dress. It shouted out to me but I must admit it looks beautiful as a jewellery roll. You are clever and I hope that soon it gets to go out somewhere special with you.
Hugs, Neet 11 xx

Gorgeous job with the jewellery case and I am sure it will be an essential item when you do finally get to have a holiday. The fabric is absolutely stunning and I think I would of just kept it an loving stroked it will murmuring "my pretty". Can see why you are claiming those buttons .... worthy of a painting.

Stay safe and keep creating the gorgeous projects you just seem to whip up with thread and fabric.

Thank you for your visit. Thank you very much for the link - I shall check that out later! The fabrics you bought are absolutely mouthwateringly gorgeous. So glad you like my jumper. I finished the ribbing late last night and it's come out looser than before but I'm happy with it - it will just give the jumper a slightly different look from before. The mis-shapenness of it doesn't seem to show, either. I have decided to leave the sleeves as they are because when I tried it on, they don't seem to be too long any more. So it's really nearly finished now and ready to wear next winter. Onwards and upwards to the next UFO on the list!

Hi Jo, you lot make me feel guilty as my sewing days have got less and less. I love how you've used the fabric, it's so gorgeous that I hoped you would make it into something useful so it doesn't get hidden away and this is perfect. Have a lovely week and a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x19x

Hiys Jan, you all well I hope? Love that jewellery purse, I reckon they'd sell well in the fundraising shop, packing jewellery for holidays is always a nightmare of tangles when you arrive! I meant to take a photo of my oriental papers and forgot, will try to remember for next week, but don't hold your breath, lol. Those buttons are fab, especially the Wave ones. Fingers crossed my magnet doesn't set off the next disaster! Love & hugs to you all, Shaz #13 XxXxXx

Oh Jan I was so hoping someone would pick up on the "pants" part on my blog and be bold enough to comment. Did I laugh and hubby wondered what was tickling me so much!!! :)))
Your jewellery case is gorgeous, such a clever idea especially the lace. Super buttons and know exactly why you're keeping the Hokusai Wave ones.
Thanks for the visit BJ#21

Jan I love what you decided to do with that lovely fabric. I have never seen a jewelry wrap with a ring holder. It's brilliant. I think I will have to look for one because I think that would look better on my dresser than the current storage for my jewelry.
You have me laughing so hard about the stuffing. I bet it is a royal pain to stuff toys etc. But your efforts paid off.

Ha ha, I managed to visit you first this week! Yes, I am feeling quite smug!!

Stay well, my friend.

Hi Jan, I can see why you fell in love with the oriental fabric. I love your casual "I'll just whip up a jewellery roll for myself" that would take me over a week to start it, a month or so to cut the pieces out, etc, etc and a year later it wouldn't be finished. You have however, given me an idea to get my posterior in gear and crack on with the quilts for my grandsons - they would love secret pockets, and zips. Where did you get/how do you attach the poppers? I can get little zips from our local market when they re-open but never seen the poppers there? Thanks for stopping by my blog, I've unfortunately neglected crafting as my craft room is now my home office, and spending all day in there means I don't like to go in there in the evening or weekend - feels like I am back in work. Have a lovely week and stay safe and well, Heather xx #3

That jewelry clutch looks so pretty! I love the fabric combo. I don't have enough to fill one of those sadly. I'm so sorry the photo of the card wasn't there this morning - I'm such a dufus, but thanks to you and Sue and I was able to put it right fairly swiftly. Have a great week, Lisa-Jane #23

Wow! What a beautiful piece, Jan! The jewelry wallet is gorgeous!
You won't be seeing anything from me this week. Not that I haven't been busy, but busy with the same thing as the passed few weeks. More of those flowers! I'm hooked! I just finished a big red peony but just cause I think 20-30 are pretty, I'm prejudiced!

Glad your mojo returned, and in grand style!
Stay well and happy Wednesday!

Kathryn

Happy Belated WOYWW and thank you for your visit yesterday. I love the jewellery 'clutch bag'. Gorgeous fabric. I have very little jewellery and don't tend to wear it anyway. I was making an effort to wear it more often before Lockdown. Silly having it sitting in boxes, but now I have slipped from that habit. I will go and put a necklace on later! Look forward to seeing your tailoring. I assume you watch the Sewing Bee programme? Their talent and experience just astounds me. Ali x #16
