WOYWW 556

BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN...

Hello, I'm back after a week off - life just got too manic and I had nothing to share craft-wise, but I was sorry to miss the significant number of 555!

Part of last week's busyness was reinstating the JanCave:

It's so good to have my space back, I've really missed not being able to just pop in for five minutes here and there. There's a pile of cut out glasses cases and some cardboard templates for a WI bag making initiative that's happening in a couple of weeks time.

Outers with fleece fused on, paired with a contrasting liner, all ready for sewing up. The lovely Laura from the Harbour Lights cafe texted me to say that stocks were low, so I really must crack on.

And the reason for all the upheaval?
My kitchen is all but finished, just the new plaster to be painted and a little bit of tiling in the utility room. We're pleased, it's all come together nicely.

G and I had a spur of the moment trip up to London on Friday where one of our oldest and dearest friends was in hospital, having had a major operation. We shared the train trip up with a group of loud but very funny Welsh gals en route to celebrate a 50th birthday...I don't know if the genteel afternoon tea goers at the Ritz would have been prepared for the on-slaught! Our friend was doing incredibly well, so G and I managed to get a lot of walking in around the back streets of the Big Smoke:

I personally think the Shard is a monstrosity, it looked less offensive at night!

And it amused me to take this pic where it was smaller than everything else.... :-)

We walked for miles, 35000 steps in three days!
I'd never walked over the Millennium Bridge before! And as much as the famous sights were fun, it's the back alleys and the underside of the capital that we enjoy exploring. You come across little gems like this:

I don't know who those Maidens were but they must have dumped a lot to have a warning sign!! *grin*

Hope you've had a good couple of weeks, I'll look forward to catching up with you today xxx

The kitchen is splendid! actually, the reinstated Jan cave is splendid too! How great that the cafe are running low again, it’s a wonderful resource for your fundraising. I’m thinking that instead of a glasses case for every handbag, I might have to have one for every month...fabric appropriate of course. Ha! If only I could do that with China!!

Nice to have your Jan Cave back but I hope you get as many hours of delight in your new kitchen as i did in mine four years ago. I take pride in it looking as pristine today as it did then and I am sure you will be the same. Just don't get as paranoid as I am over it. Btw - I love yours, and it is so big, light and airy.
Wow, that is a lot of walking but I guess easily adds up when you are visiting somewhere like London.
Hugs, Neet 5 xx
ps visit me today please as there is something for you to see x

Lovely to see you're back in your sewing room again, Jan, but it surely was worth the wait - the new kitchen is stunning. Got to agree with you about the Shard. Thankfully, it wasn't there when I lived in London - the city has changed a lot since then but it was a long time ago. Lovely pic of the two of you on the bridge - you both look very happy together. That's an interesting plaque on the wall on Maiden Lane which, incidentally, was named for the statue of the Virgin Mary that used to be there. JMW Turner was born there in the 18th century - his father had a barber shop in the street - so I imagine there's been a lot of dumping there through the centuries :) Have a lovely crafty week. Lovely to have your Jan Cave back and your kitchen finished! It looks fantastic! I've missed 555 as well (and two before that!) - now we'll have to wait 111 weeks (over two years) until 666 LOL! Looks like you had a super time in London and good to hear that your friend is on the mend. Enjoy your week! zsuzsa #18

Wow, what a beautiful kitchen! Your Jan cave looks awesome and very neat...I'm sure you can have that fixed up in no time! LOL! I tried sewing the other day, just a cover for a big wedge pillow...broke 6 needles. I bought some new ones, and will try again to figure out what is going on. Wish me luck! Thanks for sharing, have a great week! Lindart #23

As usual, a really lovely post from our favourite Lunch Lady! Your room looks so lovely now you're back in - really tidy and organised and so light and airy. As for your kitchen, I am struggling not to break the Tenth Commandment... It is FABULOUS!!!!! I just adore the clean white and plain modern lines of it, along with the light-wood floor. It's so beautiful!! You must be thrilled to bits. I hope you get the chance to do lots of lovely cooking in there, and really enjoy it.

Lovely London pics too. I agree with you about the Shard. My favourite is the Gherkin! I am just hoping it wasn't the maidens who got dumped rather than the other way round! You must have had a nice time wandering around London (although all that pavement bashing is very tiring) but sorry to hear about your friend, who I hope is making a good recovery in hospital.

Happy belated WOYWW,
