WOYWW 196

OH, HAD I A GOLDEN THREAD
AND A NEEDLE SO FINE,
I'D WEAVE A MAGIC STRAND
OF RAINBOW DESIGN, OF RAINBOW DESIGN...

I didn't know this song until I was googling for this week's title, but it's written by Pete Seeger - this version, is gorgeously sung by the late, great Eva Cassidy....gospel, blues.....enjoy.... :)

The reason why I was looking for a thread related song is this:
See that reel? Well, it's got 1000 metres on it. That's 1 kilometre!! And I bought two as I use a LOT of white cotton. So 2km in total (roughly 1.5 miles for those who work in 'old money'!!). How long do you think it's going to take me to get through that little lot then? I started on February 8th...any guesses? That's a lot of thread to unwind *grin*

The little tissue holders have been made to give away...

They're useful for using up scraps!  I made another bucket bin...

again using fabric from my stash...

I haven't been my usual LLJ bouncy self this week (some lurgy or other...bleurgh) so have been sitting on the sofa under a fleecy blanket..but I can't NOT do anything, so I've been knitting...
Lovely variegated wool for a knitted prezzy. The colours remind me of those Fruit Salad Chews (do any of you remember those? You could get a gazillion for 2 pence. No? Just this old geezer, then!)

I've felt more like sewing again this weekend so have started on a project for a friend...

Some small squares left over from quilt making.....

Attaching a leafy green border.... but that's all I'm going to show for now as she reads this blog :)

A PLEA: Last week, someone whose blog I visited featured a mini trug-type basket they'd made filled with flowers. The tutorial was really good and I thought I'd do it with the kids in school...but can I find it? If it was YOU who featured it, please would you kindly email it to me or tell me in the comments. THANK YOU :)

And finally, we are having an inset multi fuel stove installed this week. My husband has gone mad on researching the pros and cons of wood...big time... Conversations start with 'Did you know that....?'  He's even got a meter with two prongs that test the moisture levels of the logs. Men and their gadgets eh?? I've told him that he needs to start his own blog...what could it be called?? The Log Blog maybe? Woods of the World?? Anyway, this is what our outside store now looks like:
Actually, it was rather satisfying stacking it all neatly. But it's not big enough, we have lots stored in our garage as well.....so the first post on The Log Blog is going to be a discussion on the merits of different design of log shelters I think :)  Ah well, it keeps him happy........ lolol

Have a great week!

I love your log box. Ours is not quite as full as that, but we have used very little this year. since the roof was insulated and the new double glazing fitted our consumption of power has dropped dramatically. Glad you are recovering from your dreaded lurgy, and hope it continues to go away. xx Maggie (no number yet)

I must make one of those buckets, great shape, love it! Your mini quilt gift is super too. I've a great poem about the burning properties of different woods I'll find for your DH... will keep him happy!
Make sure I get your colour preference... see the lillybo blog!

Happy WOYWW. Firstly - fruit salad sweets, black jacks, parmaviolets etc, etc. You can still get them. Bag of assorted in Wilkinsons - and I have seen them elsewhere as well. Secondly, look at all your lovely sewing creations. You are so clever. 1 km of thread - never seen such a large reel. Ali x #22, with candy

Oh Jan, how our hubbies would get on so well. My hubby is a log fan, he seeks wood for our log burning stove and has even bought a petrol chainsaw for mobile log felling (not that he's done any yet). I have a little wood fact for your hubby, forgive me if he already knows it - in Scotland, if fallen wood has a jagged edge you can take it but if it has a sawn edge you have to leave it. Hubby is trying to patent a saw that cuts with a jagged edge lol

Lovely makes btw, sorry for being distracted by the log tale. Liking the black floral material a lot.

Happy WOYWW xx

Sorry you've had the lurgy too - seems to be so many have. The logs look great, surely you can use them for something else?! The material is beautiful and your projects as ever fabulous. (NO, I don't shy from colour - whilst I wear dark colours predominantly, I love bright colour anywhere else!) Have a good week, get well soon. Helen, 8 xx

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather, Jan. Hope you are soon bouncing again, but until then stay under that fleece. Sounds like your dear Hubby is keeping himself entertained with log talk anyway. It's funny how they take things to extremes isn't it, must be a man thing. your burner will be gorgeous though, especially in the Winter.
That's some thread you've got there, bet it won't take you long to get through it though especially with all those gorgeous things on your desk and yes.. I do remember Fruit Salad chews. Someone mentioned those green square minty ones called Pacers too the other day. I used to love those!!

I had no idea that song was written by Pete Seegar, I only know the Eva version, such a shame she died so young. I reckon you're already out of white thread again, lol! Love the little tissue holders, very sweet and great fabric, as is the bag and the patchwork. It's March dear lady, the days are getting warmer, does your DH actually expect to use all those logs up with what remains of this winter?

Ah, a feast for the eyes, as ever. I so wish I had your stash. And stippling? It's that wiggly all over machine quilting thing - no idea why they call it that. Funny, it occurred to me that I should show up on your doorstep, unquilted quilt in hand, one day and here I find you have no idea! I tend to think of you as the font of all sewing knowledge, after the zipper thing. :) Good thing I didn't just jump on a train.....

LOL!

Hello LLJ,

I'm not joining in this week but wanted to visit some of my favorite people.... and oh my, shut the front door! I'm in love with that bucket bin. How did you know my colors?!? tee hee

Knitting is a good craft to sit and watch t.v., isn't it.

As for the wood - be careful of those critters that lurk in wood piles......

Hugs,
Kay

By George, I think you're feeling better this week. Yay! Needle and thread--my favorite subjects! I have to say, my favorite needles are the 24k gold plated needles--I buy little packs of them at Michaels. I'm thinking you need some! I mentioned you in my blog today--because I know we would be the most fun neighbors--trading our seeds, fabric and what-have-you! I don't have any fun neighbors like that, BUT, I have been inspired by you and Julia to start a crafty group. I'm meeting with a theatre friend who knits--by the way, LOVE your Fair Isle knitting you've started there, clever girl--and when we can all crawl out from under our fleecy blankets hopefully by April, she and I will get our crafty group started. And maybe I can inspire some of them to start a blog--or we could do a group blog, we'll see. I'm finally finishing my butterfly scarf, and I'm going to start another!! Hugs to my British soul sister. Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #106

Hi Jan, sorry to read you haven't been too well, but it sounds like you've perked up a bit now. You will have to let us all know when you get through that reel of cotton - judging by your output it might not last all that long. The patchwork is gorgeous - love the colours ... and, of course, you've got us all intrigued, who is the lucky recipient? Log shelters - as I understand it, they should be open on three sides and have a roof. My son has a wood-burning stove and I've just described his log shelter - I look forward to seeing your DH's solution:) Hope you've had a good WOYWW. Elizabeth x #26

Firstly I have to say i am glad you are on the up and there is so much craftiness this week to see. I also have to say that I love anything Eva Casidy sang. I also had to giggle at the fact that your OH starts the discussions with 'Did you know' ....I do too if I think that the other person is not really interested lol xx

Great wee tissue holders and I really love the 'bucket' - haven't tried one of those yet. Have you ever used the plastic coated table cover fabric stuff for projects? - I found a great owl print design and was thinking of making it into a bag - any hint or tips for stitching it?
Bernice (not playing this week - too busy sewing!)

Sorry to hear you haven't been as bouncy as normal, LLJ! I hope your little blechy feeling goes away for good NOW. Having said that, you still have more productivity on your blog this week than I have in a month of Sundays! Love the tissue holders and the bucket and the quilty and the knitting and the log-stacking. Phew! I must go lie down. (Seriously, how cool that your hubs is all wrapped up in logging to the point of maybe blogging ... anything that keeps them from helicoptering about our heads is a VERY good thing!)

Happy Mothering Sunday, my friend. See you in two weeks! xxoo Darnell #50

Your post was just full of all kinds of great stuff! Thanks for sharing the Eva Cassidy song. I'm loving it!

We are wood burners here in the Missouri Ozarks USA. I don't think I'd ever go back to any other type of heat... though we do have a back-up electric that has come in handy on mornings just to take the chill off. I'd be interested in reading hubby's blog. I think my hubby would like that moisture gadget. We store ours on shipping pallets and cover the whole stack with a tarp.

Oh.. love all your projects too. Great using up those scraps! Creative Blessings! Kelly #156

even sick it looks like you have been very productive this past week. With the kids grown and gone I am always ever so happy when the old man finds something to do that doesn't start with "are you going to be free..." Usually it is later today and he is wanting me to help with something...not that I mind helping but usually it is when I am busiest in my room of calm. Love those tissue holders. And fruit chews...I remember them but I think they were called something else over here! Little late getting around this week but better a little late then never! Hope you have a great week. Heh Jan, thanks for your kind comments today, l feel the same as you, I don't know where the time goes!

Also, thanks for your generous offer of the goodies for fundraising. Dan does have an event in June but its more of an awareness event for the pupils. If we could put the kind offer on ice as l know Dan will continue with arranging events for his beloved charity. He is going to become an advisor for the charity which will see him visiting schools etc.

BTW, you don't look old enough to have kids that's are 20 & 17!

Have a good weekend ❤

Missed out last week but catching up now. I remember fruit salad and blackjack a - 4 for a penny (old style). Someone just opened a sweet shop locally full of old-fashioned sweets and they do both loose and bars, how good is that.
Men and wood fires, my DH would go out collecting sticks when holidaying in cottages with wood burners, come back with a carrier bag full of them and then forbid me to go anywhere near the fire. Kept him happy though.
