 THEY SAY THAT OPPOSITES ATTRACT...

Hi there, hope everyone has had a good week! I have been making good inroads into the new fabrics and been quite busy in the JanCave:

I finished off the owls fabric and thought the rainbows would be fun to do next - there was a choice of linings again. It's an interesting exercise pairing up combinations, if you cover up two colours of the spotty with your hands, you can see that while all three technically are ok, there's one that enhances the rainbows rather than fight it.....for me anyway!

Yep, the turquoise won!

It enhances rather than dominates. I remember having my colours done back in the 80s, it was quite expensive but was very interesting and something which I follow even to this day. I am an Autumn and the warmer tones of any colour suit me plus yellow gold. I use colour theory quite a lot still.

This monochrome lilies and dragonfly has just a hint of metallic gold which really lifts it - I cut the glasses cases carefully so there was a dragonfly on the front.

I only had a metre of this, enough for two totes, cases and purses. It looks nothing in the pic but is actually really pretty in real life!

The hearts fabric on the right was one of several offcuts gifted to me by a customer of the cafe where I sell my bits and pieces. I could have used any of four contrasting liners but the pink made the hearts stand out more.

And having shown you all my considered colour planning, I always have to rebel!!

Seven strips done with one more on the hook! It was easy to store them like this on the bookshelves in the living room but I spread them out to see what they looked like:

Fun huh?! That's about as random as I'll ever manage, lol! A good way to use up odds and sods of yarn.

That's it for now, hope you have a good time crafting and enjoy your week xxxxxx

What a very busy week you've had! It is amazing what a difference the colour of lining makes to the finished project. Your crochet strips look good both rolled up and laid out - I'd be forever changing the order of the strips before committing to sewing them up.. Happy WOYWW

I chose the one you used when I did the 'hand covering' trick. But the orange came a close second. What a gorgeous shade of blue that is.
Love al the colour in the rainbow cases but the monochrome ones are equally appealing, something about black and white! All of your sewing is lovely and your sense of colour ... I had no idea you put it down to one of those 'colour me beautiful' sessions. Gosh, I always wanted one of those, still do.
Enjoy your sewing and have a great week.
Hugs, Neet 1 xx

I chose turquoise too, strange how they all react so differently together, but that's a great tip for fabrics, papers and all sorts of things. I love the orange floral too. I remember the colour thing being done back then but never had it done, although I would have loved to. As always your work is beautiful, and I know it will all be snapped up before you can say floral fabrics!
Hope you have a great week,
Hugs, Diana xx #15

Turquoise wins every time in my book! Gorgeous fabrics all over and your pairings are perfect! That's probably the biggest appeal to me about quilting (although it can be the most stressful too!) - matching the fabrics! Your crocheted (knitted?) spread looks positively quilty and scrappy! I love the scrappy look - and you know what? - when you're working on it, you might think "oh this is not good" - but when it's ready - especially if you put a border on it - it all comes together! Thanks so much for popping in Jan! Wishing you a wonderful week! xx zsuzsa #18

Oh my word, a busy bunny indeed, super makes although you've sent me down the Camberwick Green Rabbit hole and I've been watching YouTube clips ever since reading your comment on my jar! It was Camberwick green with the box, Trumpton had the clock and Chigley with an ending of a music box and dance after the six o'clock whistle. All were by the same makers. Takes me back too. Loved assessing the different linings - the turquoise really pops the rainbows. I haven’t posted a blog this week as I’m dop d up with painkillers waiting for a dentist’s appointment.
Your blanket strips look amazing when rolled out together.
Take care and happy WOYWW

Yes, that turquoise was my pick too. Lovely assortment of goodies. I gave away that canvas to the lady who gave my a bag of scraps last year. She seemed quite pleased with it, no more messing about trying to think of ways of using it! When you are crocheting your lengths, do you just use up the little balls or do you use up whole ones as well? As in 3 inches of that one, two inches of another. Angela #12

Hi Jan! I did the cover up and choose - and I chose blue! I was right! It does enhance the colours and looks great. I love the dragonflies, I often wish I could just fly out to Wales and go shopping in your little store...maybe someday! I love the randomness of those strips, it will look awesome all put together! Have a great week, Lindart #22

Well, those crochet strips look amazing, and how quickly they make a big blanket!
I did do the cover up test on the rainbow linings and I’m happy to say that the turquoise spoke to me as well. Actually I think the rainbow fabric looks almost like silk in these pics!

Those strips are GORGEOUS! And I am in total agreement with the turquoise. Perfect match. I got my colours done too (I'm a SUMMER) but only cause my sister was trying out being one of the reps who sold the process. The lady teaching her did me so more confident it was correct :D

Happy to see you, even if I am very very late for WOYWW!
