GOT MYSELF A CRYING, TALKING, SLEEPING, WALKING LIVING DOLL

(The Young Ones version, obvs!)

Can't believe it's February already...I can't tell you what I actually did in January but it didn't involve much sitting down and twiddling of thumbs, that's for sure. Hey ho, on we go.

I've been making the most of having the machine back in the JanCave:

I made Rhys a laundry bag to hang on the chair in his room - this is the bit where I attached the circular bottom of the bag onto the body of the bag which was oblong...much fun ensued (not!)

I also found some stiffening which is like boning for corsets ( think I got it for keeping the top of desk bins open) this was perfect for keeping the base of the bag round. Pop a handle on and it was done.

I made some more bits and pieces for the RNLI, that nautical fabric is great for the bag but you have to place the glasses case template quite carefully and it wastes fabric, which I hate!

And a pile of fold up totes ready to have price labels attached.

My boys bought me some flowers and these tulips have brightened up the kitchen for over a week, so I thought I'd dabble some paints.....

I loved that bright orangey red, a proper happy colour!

Gordon has shared this pic today:

Small girl with huuuuuuggggggeeeee bonnet again pushing her dolls in the buggy - awww, cute....

Except.........

and this is why I've never been a doll fan, they freak me out a bit!! No, a LOT!

But if you can get over the weird, voodoo, freaky eyes, the dolls' clothes are really beautifully made.

Another week of my ramblings, thanks for reading!

What beautiful tulips Jan - the real ones as weel. I hope Rhys appreciates his laundry bag. The latest stash for the RNLI looks fab! I know what you mean about dolls - those staring eyes!!! Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4

you've been on a real kick since your machine came back, love that fabric you've been using but can see that the placement of the pattern would waste a lot if you're not careful. Love the tulips and the painting! Happy WOYWW Helen #5

Never mind the DOLL - that kid has a pretty creepy, determined grin (grimace?), like she is on her way to tip those dolls into a lake or something!I prefer the knitting ladies on the beach, frankly. Your sewing is amazing, as ever, and I suspect over time you have funded an entire FLEET of lifeboats! And I still have not attempted to use my box o' pop-closures, although I did come across them in my "sewing room" - which at this point is more a yarn and fabric storage unit. if I'm honest. {sigh}

Back on track :D

Haha I’m chuckling at the scary dolls. They’re enough to give you nightmares.
Your fabrics on the other hand are a joy to behold. You’d have loved the fabric stalls we visited last week on Bury Market Jan.
Have a good week busy lady

Morning Jan. So... boredom is still not in your dictionary, then?! Well done on all you have been making - things look great. Love the idea of the boning for the laundry bag. Your tulip painting is great - your skills with the watercolours are growing so fast - well done. Don't know about the dolls - but that girl's expression is pretty scary too! I do agree, though, that the doll on the right looks like she can't believe what she is seeing. Whatever does that say about the photographer in front of her??
Take care. God bless.

So many lovely makes Jan. Such nice, fresh colours/fabrics. The dolls really are scary but their clothes make up for it - beautiful little costumes. let me know what you think of my idea for a little project. xx Jo

Well done gorgeous gal with all your charity makes. You really are a gem. I love the fashions on the old photos but those dolls eyes!!! Nightmares are made of them.

I love your water colouring Jan - you have captured those gorgeous tulips beautifully - what a lovely splash of colour on these grey days we've been having - although saying that the sun is shining this morning for a change.
The photo of the dolls is really creepy - as a child I was never a fan of those flipping eyelids (as in eyelids that flip up and down!). It's fascinating to see the dolls clothes and also her beautiful little coat - what gorgeous detail in it - I'd love to know her story.
Beautiful sewing as always, I love the seaside fabric.
Hope you have a great week,

Oh I have to agree with the freaky eyes, not a doll fan myself, never was. Love that nautical bag, great fabric. I have been making little flowers where you fold a strip and do a running stitch and pull it tight. I am sure you know what I mean. I tried two out of voile. The small one was a bit messy, but the bigger one turned out well. I made three fabric ones. I just added a photograph to show you. Lovely watercolour x Angela #9

The laundry bag sounds great - did you choose the fabric because he is a star? Your star?
As always beautiful makes for the RNLI, you are such a treasure. But you have been hiding your light under a bush as your painting is very good too. I think it is very brave of you to paint those tulips which are gorgeous by the way, and you have done a lovely watercolour of them.
Love the pram in the photo, I don't mind the dolls so much but the little girl reminds my of the film Psycho for some reason. I've seen gorgeous wicker things for standing plants on, wouldn't that pram be good.

Do you think that's one of the reasons dolls eyes always got pushed out?!!
Love all the glass cases, might be wasteful but they're so tasteful . . .
Have a good week

What beautiful tulips Jan, your watercolour as well as the flowers. Your laundry bag for Rhys looks good; it’s a great idea to bone it.
That pile of stuff for the RNLI looks lovely, too.
I’m with you on those dolls, they’re themes for some horror film for sure!
Looking forward to seeing you later
Take care and happy WOYWW

Oh those beautiful flowers. You do very well at water coloring, I love it and have a huge Pinterest board. Just haven't taken time, but I find from the flower class it is relaxing fun. Your fabrics are all beautiful too. I haven't been to our store for so long I've no idea what's new. Enjoy as the time flies by Spring is on my mind !

Happy WOYWW. I will be in touch about arranging to meet up. Need a sunny day, of course! I will want to go down to the Lifeboats shop to purchase some of your wonderful creations (will make fantastic Christmas presents - yes, I am thinking about that already!). I actually like dolls, but I think the one on the right is more scared by what is about to happen to her. That girl definitely has some 'character'. Beautiful watercolour of the gorgeous tulips. Jan, I don't think I could ever picture you twiddling your thumbs! You always seem busy doing one thing or another. As usual your creations are lovely, I love how you positioned the fabric so well for the glasses cases. And the tulips are lovely, such a nice way to remember them! As to the picture - how did children actually ever play dressed like that? The one doll does have freaky eyes, like she's terrified of something in front of her! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #20

Hi Jan, thanks for the comment over at mine. There are lots of techniques that crafters have used over the years and we pack them away and forget about them which is a shame as many of them are still great today. Loving your projects today, no wonder they sell so quickly. Great photographs too. Have a great woyww. Hugs, Angela 16x

Lovely work, Jan. I love the photo of the vintage dolls and buggy. I think that would be a great image for a vintage junk journal. I am recently into junk journaling, as if I am not in enough! I haven't been here in years, but so fun to see old friends again. So, I guess I am back! Happy Day!

That little girl looks very happy to have freaky dolls doesn’t she. Makes me shiver a bit! Her bonnet is a sensation! I love the tulips, especially the forward facing one…you can paint depth, it’s very strikingly good. I hate HATE attaching round bottoms to oblong bodies…I’d rather set in a dozen sleeves! Good job; the corsety stuff is great, makes a proper catch all out of a simple bag. Having a manic week, and month end too, ugh…can we carve out some time next week? Xxx

All your makes are beautiful and the tote made from the seaside themed fabric is gorgeous. I think someone's very happy to have her sewing machine back. Your boys' tulips have lasted well and make a lovely subject for painting. I've never liked China dolls either. I was given one for Christmas one year, hated it on sight but had to pretend I loved it ... it cost a lot and was chosen with love so I never let on how I really felt. I suspect that those dolls were rarely played with because of their scary features. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #21

I don't know about the dolls, they look a bit scarrrrry to me! I love the seaside bag and all those other sewy things too. One thing I HAVE got is a box of those poppet buttons, so, I guess I'm as least a third of the way there! Happy LATE WOYWW!? Stay Safe and keep On sewing! ((Lyn)) #23...last!

Dear Jan!
After an exiting week I'm so glad to come home in your blog.
See the sewings, and how busy you were.
Such a lot of totes!! Can't believe my eyes.
Your tulips are amazing.
Oh and the scary eyes of the doll. Hope the child could sleep in the night.
