AND I THINK TO MYSELF WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

Being in these weird times is certainly challenging how we view what's important or necessary - the basics of life and our dear ones are the only focus it seems now. We always knew that really but when all the extraneous stuff is jettisoned, these remain.

My desk is from a couple of days ago when I decided to make some scrubs bags for a local nurse to use - there was a call out on the town's FB page so I decided to do something to help. I was given a couple of duvet covers after putting out a plea for some fabric but started off by using the cotton sheets from my mum's linen cupboard that I've just hung onto since she passed away (she'd have approved!)

I've used some of the cotton twill tape bought for the WI bunting as it's also 100% cotton and will withstand the 90C hot wash.

The final few things to share on my bookcase shelves are these:
A chatelaine that my mate Lynne made for me (three years ago now, blimey) which features all sorts of little charms that each have significance for our life and friendship. It is very dear to me.

And on the other side:
A little sewn musical tag made by Helen, a mate from my old band and a crafter extraordinaire, the details are so lovely! The little bear is by our Wipso, he came with a poem at a Crop - I love his tartan scarf!  And of course a WOYWW badge from Herself, no explanation needed :-)

So the days roll by - it's not just me who's doing different things to keep busy, G has been happily pottering doing all sorts of jobs but he is missing his Photography Society. They're making efforts to meet virtually and do some digital photo competitions. This week was Macro, so this is what I found in the kitchen yesterday:

I really do wonder what the neighbours must think sometimes, lol!!! That huge lens is G's Bird Scaring lens by the way - if he sees something interesting, by the time he's attached that thing, the bird in question has long since scarpered!  As you can see there was quite a selection pilfered from the JanCave to have a play with.

This is the final result:
Now THAT  would make a b&*^%r of a jigsaw :-D  Pretty though.

Have a good week everyone, stay safe and well xxxx

I love G and his big lens.... lol Great pic of the buttons. There are some fantastic stories of people going the extra mile to raise funds and do good. Shame about the few who still think they can ignore rules but I guess t'was ever thus. Glad you are both finding things to occupy you. Stay safe. Love and hugs Helen #?

Gosh, you are so right - that would make one helluva jigsaw!
G looks very professional with his big camera lens - of course I had to smile at the thoughts of him rushing to put it on and the bird having flown away - I don't have anything but a point and click camera (and my phone) but I can guarantee by the time I have got it ready to take a photo of a bird the darned thing has flown!
Your garden looks lovely and there is so much sun. Mind you it is out here again today - I think yesterday was a bit dull and cold but then it might have been another day - they all roll into one at the moment.
Have a good week and stay safe and well.
Hugs, Neet 2 xx

But did he get them all back in the box afterwards Jan lol? Glad that you are both keeping well. The bags are a really good cause. My GP sister is so glad that she hung onto her scrubs from her theatre nursing days as she now wears them to work. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

Morning me dearies! How true, Jan. Life is being pared down - back to the basics - walking pace. I (don't tell everyone!!!) found myself praying yesterday that we would indeed come to realise what is important, and that the lockdown might continue) That is probably sheer lunacy and heresy to some - but yes, learning what is really important is where we need to be at. Just loving the bags - well done. Great photo, G, glad you were able to filch from the Jan cave.
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

Well done indeed with the bags for the hospital, Jan! Very bereft of colour compared with your usual efforts but I understand the reason why lol! - good old-fashioned bedding that withstands the hottest of washes! Thank you for sharing your beautiful little gallery of precious things. Often people say to those who have been burgled, “Remember it’s only things, and things don’t matter” but I profoundly disagree with this. Things have layers of meaning and whatever their intrinsic value (often none at all) their meaning by association is everything. I have a precious little gallery on top of the bookcase in my office, full of small objects that belonged to Dad, and each one means so much, and carries a wealth of memories of stuff that was important to us both, and which nobody else would understand. My own little gallery in the studio is full of things I love, either given to me by others, or which I have made myself and I enjoy looking at!!

I love your hubby’s efforts with the camera! Who’d have thought that a pile of sequins could look so lovely in close-up. You should make a fiendish jigsaw from that one! (1000 pieces at least.) Something to keep people occupied during the lockdown!

Stay safe and well, and happy WOYWW,

Snap Jan!! I've been making scrub bags too but I'm very slow at it - I'm not very good at the hole for the cord! I love your twill ribbon but I'm having to make my own cord out of the same fabric - it's a very long winded job and I've just seen on our FB group someone using a piece of folded paper to run the fabric through, therefore no pins and ironing needed. I'm thrilled about this (I'm easily thrilled these days!) and I'm going to try that technique this afternoon!
Loving the photography - that's a gorgeous photo of the sequins, he's very talented, as I know I've said before! I had to laugh at your comment about the bird scaring lens - I can definitely relate to that!
Hope you have a great week and stay safe and well,
Hugs, Diana xx #16

So - out of the closet come all the ladies who sew - I shared a video of the Shropshire ladies and it's lovely to see all that fabric and lovely machines! It's an under-rated skill but always comes in handy in times of crisis. Well done you Jan. I don't know how long they will need bags hats and scrubs but I will keep plodding on, at least for a while. G. is producing some really fab photos and who knew he would be able to create such works of art from your bits and bobs!! Stay safe both. xx Jo #13

Hi Jan, Sorry for still being MIA. As well as health problems, I've only done the odd card for a birthday. Mojo has gone on an extended holiday.

Well done making up the scrubs bags. A lady on a crafting group is making the actual scrubs, hats and face masks. It is wonderful what people are doing.

Yes, definitely a b***er of a jigsaw:) LOL

Happy WOYWW

You made me smile about the lens, why don't these birds realise we need them to stay put for a couple of minutes Lol! At least you're both managing to stay occupied which is good. My hubby is catching up with jobs in the garden which normally wouldn't get done at this time as he should be out at schools moderating the Art work but obviously that isn't going to happen now as far as we can tell. Take care and have a crafty woyww, Angela x17x

I know some who would love a jigsaw puzzle like that! They enjoy the challenge. Fun seeing some of your crafty stuff on the table to photo.
So good of you to make the items needed! I did manage to make 1 mask for me but all my fabric is in storage and very hard to get to. I was planning on purging the storage shed but, with the thrift shops closed, I have to place to take my unwanted stuff at this time. Oh well.
Been enjoying your shelf tour. Such nice memories.
Thanks for popping by and have a wonderful week!

Strange times indeed, my husband is not a Gardner and doesn’t do very much normally, but he has been doing a great deal lately. I have been doing a little weeding too, just for 5 minutes that seems like an hour. Yesterday was a rest day and I spent most of it watching Doctor Who. I usually have trouble with the birds, once I have got my camera, they have flown away. Would love a big lenses like that though, as long as someone else was carrying it :). Stay safe x Angela #24

Thank you for your visit, Jan, and I'm glad you like my colourings this week! They have been fun to do. I've now got plenty to make up into cards and really need to set aside some serious studio time as I can't do that on my lap on the recliner!
