WOYWW 412

IF I HAD A HAMMER, I'D HAMMER IN THE MORNING,
I'D HAMMER IN THE EVENING, ALL OVER THIS LAND.

There has been more crafting this week - woohoo! It made my brain hurt though because I was making a pattern from scratch and had to work out in what order things had to be done.

It all started with my younger son's birthday, you see - he turned 21 and one of his wish-list presents was a replica longsword! He does medieval sword fighting and wanted a resin weapon that doesn't hurt when you get hit with it (well, not as much anyway!). But it needed a cover as it's not really sensible to walk through a town with a sword on display these days.....

If you peer closely, you can see the grey resin blade lying on the stripey fabric with the cross guard, pommel and handle dismantled - they go in a pocket on the front. The fabric is a tough canvas so hopefully should stand up to the wear and tear of use!

Rhys had done a good turn for me - a flat pack bookcase had been delivered and he put it together:
It's a good life skill being able to assemble flat pack furniture eh?! He did a really good job.
I spent a very happy hour arranging some of my stash and bits and pieces :-D

We went on a road trip on Rhys' birthday - to Pembroke Castle which is a real gem. The weather, as you can see, was perfect!

I can't believe my boy is 21...where did the time go? We had a really wonderful couple of hours pottering around the castle and found these:

Dragon eggs in their own special nest (I took this for you Shaz!!) They were about 18" long and obviously will hatch out into little Welsh dragons :-) A fun thing to come across!

Have a wonderful week everyone - I might get some fabric scraps out and muddle through something else! Steady on....

I love the dragon eggs...do say I will give one a home when they hatch. I love dragons and if they didn't gather dust I'd collect them lol. It looks like Rhys had a good birthday....I hope you gave him a big hug and a sloppy kiss from me.

That was a good knock for knock job. A bookcase for a sword cover. You couldn't make that story up as a title "bookcases, swords and dragon eggs" hahaha

It's amazing what our children will get us to do which taxes our brains creatively. My eldest (24) gave me 10 days to make him a Dalek costume for the summer fair when he was 4 as he had already told everyone at school what he would be dressed as! Happy WOYWW Sarah #15

Happy Birthday and well done to Rhys for putting the bookshelf together - he's done a good job - in our house flat pack is a two person job - Ian putting it together and me pointing out where he's going wrong! I love the dragon eggs, they made me giggle.
Hope you have a great week Jan, keep on enjoying beautiful South Wales, I'm loving your photos - thanks for sharing

Happy 21st to Rhys. You must be so proud of your boys.....and to be able to put together flat pack as well!!! Your bookcase looks lovely.
What beautiful weather you had for your trip, the Welsh tourist board should be paying you to advertise for them. It looks stunning. Love the Dragon eggs too.
I know what you mean about these babies of ours growing up too fast, mine is 16 next week....how did that happen???
Enjoy your week.

Looks like you've been having a good time. My hubby starts to twitch at the thought of flat pack as we had a few when we first got married and there were times he refused to leave the shop without checking everything was there Lol! Have a great woyww, Angela x7x

Love the dragon eggs! It's surprising how much maths goes with sewing. It makes my brain hurt too. Happy belated Birthday to your boy. Mine will be 20 soon and I feel the same. Where did the time go? Hope your temperatures are better than ours today. I had to scrape my windscreen this morning!

Hiya Jan, that did make me laugh. Putting flatpack together is indeed a good life skill- teaches anger management as much as anything else, lol. Hope Rhys had a lovely birthday, shockingly, that means he was a teen when we first met! I can imagine the hoo-hah caused by a troll with the sword! Love and hugs to you all, Shaz XxXx

Oh the bookcase looks loaded for an eye candy photo Shoot! Great job by Rhys. Sort of takes you back to when you'd sit them on the floor with a saucepan and a wooden spoon!! When they hatch, are going to adopt a dragon?

I love that your boy is into medieval sword fighting! I love anything Medieval, and am currently watching The Last Kingdom, and just recently realized that my Scottish hubby probably has Viking blood in him! I envy you living so close to such a wonderful castle - and dragon eggs! How cool is that! Thanks for sharing, Lindart #34

What a delightful! How fun to get a new bookcase in which to organize your fabrics and stuff. I really enjoyed your photos of your road trip. Your bits & pieces on your shelving unit are so nicely arranged! Happy belated Bday to your son. Our oldest granddaughter is older than your son which has a tendency to make me feel elderly at times since she has 2 sons.... Hope you have a great week.

Love that you're making a sword cover! Definitely essential round here, a couple of years ago a blind chap got tazered when a policeman mistook his white stick for a sword! Good to see you're starting to get organised in your workspace, and those dragon eggs are just brilliant! Cara x

The fabric you are using for the sword cover looks to be perfect to me - not that I am an expert on sword covers or medieval times or anything remotely connected with your son's hobby. But it does look as if it would be perfect to me.
A valuable skill indeed, one which is not shared by my friend's son and partner as my friend is down at theirs doing just that this week - putting flat pack together.
Enjoy your week - love the picture of the castle.
Hugs, Neet 6 xx (thanks for the visit yesterday)
