SO LONG, FAREWELL, AUF WIEDERSEHEN, GOODBYE.......
(The Sound of Music)

Bet that's got you worried!

Fret not, the song title isn't referring to me but something else - read on :-)

I thought I'd have a sort out of The Stash, to put away the new stuff and have a general look-see.  Whilst doing this, I came across a stack of triangles that I cut out ages ago, from some of the first fabrics I ever bought, ready to make bunting with....

Goodness but this takes me back!!  I've had most of these for at least five years - they were probably some of the first I ever got when the sewing bug first bit.  There are some old friends there :-)

But I didn't fancy making bunting (banners)...... friends of mine in band have just become grandparents for the first time, so I thought I'd use up these tessellating triangles and make a cot quilt.

I had some white sheeting already, so that was useful to separate the colours......

I also had some pink fleece stashed away from a previous project and had just enough for the backing.  Just quilting in this shot...that's the bit I like least!

Ta-Dah!  Perfect for a new little girl AND it used up some stash, Brilliant :-)

Except........

That's it.....these few scraps are all that's left of an old friend. I feel quite sad...which is crazy, isn't it?  But this floral polycotton has been in bags, bunting, quilts, tops and even a dolly.  I made good use out of that original 3 metres, that's for sure......

Just to leave you with a smile though.....

Two more Hooters, made for a friend, sitting on my bookshelf next to Gandalf and a cat. What DO you think they're all looking at??!!
(Clean answers only, please!)

Have a great week xxxx

The cot quilt is lovely! I felt the same about the fabrics in the last big quilt I made. Glad to have finished it finally (it took me 5 years!) but sad to see the end of the fabric I really liked! Love those owls! Ali #5

What a beautiful cot quilt! I'm sure it will now go on to be treasured for many years by the new recipient! Go out quickly today and buy some new fabric to 'put away' for a few years so that you dont feel to bad! How clever you are Jan, your loss sure is someone else's gain as they say… Off to the shops with you now!

Firstly I must say thanks for visiting me already [ and you are on the right line for all the comments made in the fabric shop ;-) ]. The quilt is really gorgeous.....what a fab way to use up all thos lovely scraps of fabric. As for what the hooters are saying.....It's obvious you've spent a lot of time sewing this week so I think they are saying..." just look at that cobweb....do you think she is leaving that up there to hand her Christmas decorations off?"........only joking of course as I'm sure there's not cobweb in sight in your house [unlike here :-) ].

Hi Jan, happy Wednesday..how fabulous is that quilt...just using up the scraps hey. If you're anything like me when I'm cutting out I'm always trying to cut the best so I do have scraps that are usable and not wasted...even with my card stock. I know back at our house there is material in storage and I would hate to say how long it's been there - that's another job to do. I think your hooters, cat and Gandolf are looking away up there because they've spied another stash of fabric you've forgotten about...maybe, but I bet you're more organised than that. Cheers and thanks for your visit RobynO#9

I think the Hooters are saying "does that woman ever stop?" 'cos you are such a busy busy lady.
Great cot quilt that you have made, I was getting a bit panicky in case the baby was a boy but you verified that it was a girl later on. I am so full of admiration - you can sew triangles together, the point bits must be tricky - yes/no?
Must get that fabric off to you and a note to say what my mind is thinking.
Hugs (and special ones for you know why)

That quilt is amazing!!!! And even though you chose not to turn the triangles into bunting, the quilt still makes me think of a lovely sunny day with bunting flapping in the breeze. So talented. I am also very envious of your hooters ;-). Happy crafting x

That was funny Jan, as soon as I saw the triangles I thought quilt not banner. Shows how my brain still works. Not sure how to put it... You can take the brain out of the sewing but you can never take the sewing out of the brain or something like that! Have a great week with lots of lovely crafting and happy woyww, Angela x 28

I reckon they are saying "there's enough fabric there to open a shop, do you think she'll ever use it all?"
Love your beautiful quilt and well done you for using up the fabric, I don't think I would've been so strong willed. I'm sure it will be treasured and passed on.
Hope all is good with you and yours.

Hiya Jan, what a find! Love how the quilt came out, the colours are gorgeous. Especially love that Dragonfly print.Lolled at Lisa's suggestion for the Hooters. Or maybe its' D'you think Ron really ought to be up there at his age?' Yes, the pieces will be backgrounds, I think. Or maybe punch some butterflies out of a few? Have a great week, lots of love & hugs, Shaz xxxx

What a great alternative use for the triangles. There's going to be a new baby in our (extended!) family by the end of the year so I think a cot quilt may be in order.

The cot quilt is beautiful, Jan. Someone is very lucky to be the recipient of that gorgeous gift.I feel the same way about some of my papers --- they are to beautiful to actually use! The hooters are so cute. They appear to be waiting for the food in your hand above them --- they look hungry to me. LOL! Happy WOYWW and have a good week. Nann4 # 34

You completely surprised me with that quilt - it's brilliant. Those are my kinda pinks! I can't believe how you just whipped it up! I love Sound of Music by the way. So, I have to tell you about my sassy Aunt Margaret, my mom's sister. She is 92. She has outlived nine...yes I said nine...husbands. Quite the character. She never had children. We got a letter that she was sent to a nursing home. She used to be this rich lady who drove cadillacs, owned restaurants, and lived in big beautiful homes, and it's sad now because someone has taken all her stuff and there is an investigation on. But she's still very witty and lively, to spite a shattered hip that has her in a wheelchair. So, we've been dealing with that this week! Hope your dad is doing well, and I can tell you are having a fun summer m'lady! Hugs! Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #38

Well, now... your two hooters are certainly perky this morning, aren't they? They are looking for some biscuits, and by biscuits or course I mean cookies.

Love the colors in your no-longer-bunting-but-now-a-quilt. It came out quite nice and is bright and happy. Those left over floral scraps are so wonderful. I can see why you are at a loss with what to do with them and are sad the main fabric is all gone. Judy #51

Your quilt is so bright and cheery! I get the sadness; same reason I find it hard to cut into some of my papers; but as a gift, it makes it all worth it. The owls are too cute!!

Thank you for sharing about your wonderful quilt project! It reminds me of a quilt I received for my newborn twenty five years ago. I loved it, and the fact that it was made by my friend made it sooo special to me (we still have it). So I am sure it will be much appreciated and worth all your effort!

Happy WOYWW and thanks for dropping by!
