WOYWW 137

WHEN WINTER'S SHADOWY FINGERS FIRST PURSUED YOU DOWN THE STREET,
AND YOUR BOOTS NO LONGER LIE ABOUT THE COLD AROUND YOUR FEET,
DO YOU SPARE A THOUGHT FOR SUMMER WHOSE PASSAGE IS COMPLETE,
WHOSE MEMORIES LIE IN RUINS AND WHOSE RUINS LIE IN HEAT?
WHEN WINTER COMES HOWLING IN...

The weather has decided that perhaps it will become a proper British winter after all - we've had some cold starts in the morning with lots of frost, blue skies and sunshine. It's good to be alive sort of weather...
Here's my parsley covered with hoar frost...
Some rose leaves backlit by the morning sun...
Frost on the black grass...
Frost patterns on the green grass!!
And my favourite...
My fence with a crew cut!!  I had fun taking these shots the other morning :D

Anyway, my desk, in all its glory...
I love this funky Union Jack fabric - this is going to be a shopping tote bag.  I'm making quite a few different items from it. Expect to see a lot of this and other flag-type fabric this year. I'm a proud Brit and am going to enjoy the celebrations throughout 2012!
And here's a peg bag in the throes - different spotty lining this time. I bought a job lot of different coloured spotty cottons from Fabricland. Blimey, they've been used hard and fast!! They don't seem to run out either!! I think I've discovered everlasting fabric, lolol!! I wish....
Doggy fabric, all cut out, ready to be a shopping bag - look, spotty fabric again. I tell you, it goes on and on and on.....
And last, but definitely not least, this cute little tissue holder..
Now, this was made following a tutorial on a WOYWWer's blog - and can I find it again to credit the author?? No, I blooming well can't. So sincere apologies to whoever posted the original. It's a fab idea, easy to make, uses up scraps  and I'll probably make a few more as prezzies.  If you read and recognise the design as yours, PLEASE message me and I'll credit you in next week's post. I really don't like using other folks' ideas without permission.
So, no horrible manky tissues rolling around the bottom of my handbag from now on, no sirree!!
Whatever you're up to, hope you're having fun... :D xx

PS The lyrics at the beginning are by Alan Hull (of Lindisfarne fame) but memorably covered by Def Leppard!!

Love the photos, especially of the green grass and the hoar frost parsley. Simply awesome. Of course, I know you are going to be a true Brit this year because I suspect the celebration has already begun. Happy WOYWW from #1.

Lovely Photos. Your weather must be somewhat like ours this year. The snow goes around us and just leaves frosty bits in the AM til the sun comes out in all its glory. Yesterday and most of this week is to be Cold. low teens, but what a wonderful winter it has been.
Great fabric projects. Always a fun year with the country/cities has something to celebrate. Enjoy your week and Happy WOYWW.

Love all the pictures of the frost! The crew cut esp. made me smile! The only problem with frost, is scraping the windshield when you are running late! LOL! The snowman is a stamp set that has all seperate pieces (except for the bottom with the swirls, go figure!). So, you can pick your eyes, nose, mouth, buttons, scarf etc. Thanks for visiting! Love the little tissue holder! -Amanda 40

Poignant poem! Stunning photos which reminds me that I have not captured Winter through the lens this season. A must do!
Your fabrics will make super items and it certainly will be a patriotic year to remember for us with the Olympics and the Queen's Jubilee. I be you'll be out a lot with the band too!

Gorgeous creations as we have come to expect. Love the pics of what Jack frost has been up to in your part of the world. We are in the middle of a heat wave 27 degrees celsius so I will stop complaining.

Love a bit of Leppard! Great lyric, huh. Am enjoying your endless spots...easier on the eye than stripes...stripes always hypnotise me if I'm sewing them! Am thinking that the photo of the frost on the black grass is my face this week, although the fuzzy crew cut on the fence post is a good LOL!

What gorgeous frost shots ...the frost was so thick up here I thought it had snowed. Love all your sewing works of art ... you just keep amazing me...that Peg bag is brilliant in that Union Jack material.
I will know if the tablets suit me when I get up to the full dose in a couple of weeks ....I just need to sort my diet out when I see the diet lady in a few weeks ...everything I read is different.!!!

Gorgeous fabrics as always! I love the idea of a tissue pocket like that. Maybe I could make some to go around baby wipes packets - so much nicer than just seeing the plastic wrappers. I definitely need to get your advice on simple patterns. Brilliant pictures of the frost too. We were just saying the other day "What IS a hoare frost?" See you soon xx

Hi Jan. Those Lyrics are gorgeous, I thought they were a poem at first!! Might have to "borrow" them for a scrapbook page!!
The weather has been gorgeous hasn't it, perfect winter weather, although we are back to the rain and gloom again here in Yorkshire today. Your photos are beautiful. I took some of the fences with a crew cut on Sunday too, you don't see that very often do you?
Love the funky flag material, you are certainly in full flow.
Happy WOYWW

Lovely lyrics, lovely photos - particularly loved the one of your fence with its 'crew cut'. My own in house weather forecaster - the EM - tells me that winter is about to come howling in again, as if the gales we had recently weren't enough. I guess we are going to see loads of Union Jacks everywhere this year - there's lots of them about in design paper and stamps too so you are bang on trend :) Have a great week. Elizabeth x #99

The cat and skillet story is... hubby left a dirty skillet on the counter and I wasn't about to clean it for him (being as he only cooked for himself). The cat jumped up and licked it clean. Later hubby thanked me for cleaning it for him as he was using it again. I never told him the cat cleaned it. Cat spit never killed anyone. In my house.

it an elusive images 2007 set of stamps, it is, I think, leonardo mirror writing,

I am currently standing in the hall angling myself and the stamp to the hall mirror (on tip toes) trying to make sense of it, being eyed by my family (who are all a minimum 7 inches taller than me hence the tippy toes) who think I really have looped the fruity loop...the other stamps have no distinguishable connection to this one - hmmm - I solve the dunnit Knicker Mystery only to be presented with an LLJ quest for knowledge...it's no wonder I struggle to sleep....

Well Jan if your claiming to be a "card making dumbo" I have no idea what my equivalent is in the sewing line! in fact we'd best not even go there! :o) Yes they are chalks on my desk, you use the little spongy applicators that come with them to smudge them on the paper and blend them in as you wish, bit like eyeshadow in a way :o) I really enjoy using them. Loving all of the fabrics this week as always!! and love your frosty piccies, it looks so nice in your photo's but I wasn't thinking that when scraping off my car the other morning :o) x

Wonderful Photo's of the winter frost, very artistic, i smiled at the fence's crew cut, and oh how i envy your talent all those lovely materials to play with but then to come up with something so usable - I wonder if your ginger cat is as highly strung as ours, his nickname is Beasty Boy, because he can be a proper beast he was a stray that turned up some 4 years ago and decided to stay and was a proper ginger tom, so a quick visit to the vets was in order hoping to calm him down, it didn't work!!! We have 2 other cats but he is boss and even rules our pooch. Kind regards 'Happy Lunching' Lou x #94

Lovely frosty photos - I did the same a few days ago - the one of the fence made me smile.
Bit late getting round the desks this week, out all day yesterday and connection problems this morning - never rains etc.
Could be seriously tempted into sewing by the doggie fabric but that would mean getting my machine back from my sisters where is has been on permanent loan for the last 6 years.

Yes it was a new background but I didn't like it and have changed it again!!! I like yours btw, I'd like a wallpaper like that!!
The photos were taken of a local reservoir near us called Swinsty. Not sure if you know of it but it's a lovely walk and there's an even better tea shop where we had hot teacakes and homemade damson jam and a cuppa, perfect!!
