WHEN THE BOAT COMES IN
I've got LOTS to share this week, so it's going to be a longish post!
More Happy Mail arrived, I do love getting these envelopes through the post, there's always a wonderful surprise inside.
From Catriona, Sylvia, Morti and Kyla, I love them all especially the brass band card. The gorgeous little orange number in the middle is anonymous though, so I don't know who to thank!
And this little lot of loveliness was from Heather, thank you, gorgeous gal, I love everything you sent XX
The weather has been glorious so I've been out in the garden quite a bit but there's been lots of crafting done too:
I found some odds and ends of fabric that were too small for much but big enough for fishies...
All that's left was a teeny pile of scraps....
Swimming happily across the desk! That's it for now, I've done a few lengths of crochet to be sewn onto railings and about 40 fish. The ice cream cone didn't get done, I couldn't find any suitable fabric or felt, see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
I was restocking the crafts for the RNLI at the cafe and Laura, the owner, mentioned that a couple of her regular customers were after glasses cases but in more muted colours, so back to the JanCave to see what I had lying around:
I didn't have that much but set to and made a few to take down later. All the face masks had gone too and Laura said they're still going quite well, so that was a quick hour's worth of sewing sorted:
I picked a variety of patterns and made two of each - they don't take much time and raise a bit of much needed cash for charity. The Crew were called out a few times over the BH weekend, for broken down boats, lost swimmers and people cut off by the incoming tides...all recovered safely, I'm glad to say.
I also went to Carmarthen market last week with the sole intention of spending some money at a few stalls, I feel so sorry for local businesses, they need all the help they can get. Anyway, I visited the Caws Cenarth cheese stall (yum), the butchers, the greengrocers and would you believe it, there's a yarn stall too - what's a girl to do except show willing!
The Wool Cwtch (cwtch is Welsh for cuddle) was set up last year, a few weeks before lockdown. It is a fab little shop, small but perfectly formed:
Oooooh, treasure awaits within! There was a great selection of yarns for all price ranges, with a fantastic choice of colours...
Everything was beautifully laid out in the bright white units....
A gorgeous little bit of decoration, love the colours....
And a whole wall of Stylecraft acrylic, I found that very pleasing indeed! I'd only gone in for some white to finish off a charity blanket....cough.....
Well, I did get those.....plus a bit more, lol!! Isn't that a pretty sight? Sian, the owner, was really lovely, I shall definitely be back as her prices were very competitive and not that different from online shops. She doesn't do mail order (her unit is too small) but you can find her on Facebook. I shall be going there quite often......

I do love a wool shop - I remember the one that there was at the top of our road growing up fondly - it was a treasure trove indeed. Well done for helping the local economy!! Helen #1
Your fishes made me smile. I still have a few ATCs on the way from far flung places but I am still enjoying seeing the ones others have received. Such a fun thing every year. The yarn shop looks delightful and I much prefer buying in person to shopping online. Lucky you to have one nearby, Get cracking on those masks!

"Cwtchy down" is what my old Welsh lady used to say to her cat, Flower.
I hope it's ok to put a "y" at the end, it sounded like that when she said it, in fact I often say 'cutchy down' since then. That's how I pronounce it.
Love the array of wool, what gorgeous shades she has in the shop - it looks wonderful - and your selection of white is lovely. Likewise your little fish. I love the dolphins at the top especially.
Love your snail mail - especially the band postcard - that is fabulous and the perfect send for you.

Gosh, how delightfully arranged and tidy that little wool shop is, I think sian is to be most congratulated...no wonder you ended up buying the next project - irresistible!abet you had a smashing BH weekend by the sea, although I would imagine that there were a lot of people about. Today is Mum visiting and Sally staying for the day, so can I please try to at h you tomorrow? It’s been too long!

Quite agree Jan, those little shops like that are beautifully designed and delectable too in its contents, what indeed waz a gal to do! I am sure you ade her day and the others that you patronised as well, fancy a cheese store.. quite unheard of in country Oz!
Love the fishes they will hang nicely and the masks look so appealing too... I've still your glasses case from our crop, too.

Oh my goodness Jan, I'm impressed that you walked out of that beautiful shop with just the colours you did - how utterly irresistable is that stack of wool all in colour order! The little fishes are so cute, and you are doing a fab job making all the masks and specs cases - I love the seaside fabric.

Really happy mail and then lovely fishies! The masks and glasses cases are lovely and for such a good cause. All my shopping bags are RNLI - and the girl at the checkout today said what cute bags!

We used to say cwtch up - Mum lived in Monmouth for a while as a child so I guess that's how we got to know it up here in Shropshire. Your local wool shop is gorgeous and yes, I fear you will be tempted back for the odd ball or ten! Well done on all your fab sewing. Those little fishes are soo cute. xx Jo

Loving all your beautiful, and colorful photos. OH that yarn..do you use your phone camera for your photos or a real camera? My phone is NOT taking good photos. Great stitching on those cute fish. Have a wonderful week. Nice to have the windows open and enjoy the fresh air !!!

Ooh I love your dolphins, they look so cute swimming across my screen. And that yarn stall, it's hard to resist especially when you see all the colours displayed like that isn't it. Good for you making the masks for charity, last year I had a huge fabric clear out (filled the car more than once) and donated it all to charity, they were really pleased as they had been running out of fabric to make masks especially. Quite a few fabrics were nautical or beach themed, I wish I'd known you then and I could have sent you some. Elle #27, EOTC
A delightful post as always, Jan. You've got a great collection of ATCs and cards. I love your little blue fishies! They look so cheerful, swimming across the desk! That wool shop is a dream. It feels like a woolly hug, with the walls all lined with so many gorgeous coloured yarns. Thank you for visiting - you say I've got more patience than you, but I disagree - it must take endless patience making all the gorgeous things you do. I'd find sewing in all those zips and getting them neat to be a real trial, I think. You do so much for other people too! I had hoped to get more tiles done this week but it's been a busy time. Crochet does grow quickly and it's got its own rhythm, and it soon mounts up while watching TV.

We have a friend who is going into hospital soon and our little group of retired teachers just wanted to wish her all the best so we sat and had coffee but I'm back now. Gorgeous collection of ATCs. I must admit I am out of the loop when it comes to knitting wool prices. I paid £5.00 for the brown and gold one on my post, the blue one was in the sale at £9.00. I did think the brown and gold one expensive, but so lovely! £4.99 would have been much cheaper 🤣🤣

Jan tooooooooo cute!!! I giggled at your yarn.....cough.....purchase! Soooo, ME!!! I would have had a hard time in that little shop let me tell you! I love all that color and I assure you that several would have found their way into my bag!!! LOL I will have to remember the "cwthc," I love that!!
