I'M JUST SITTIN' QUIETLY DOING MA OWN THING...

I think the incredibly windy weather has whooshed the week forward at a rate of knots! It's seems only five minutes ago that I was writing last week's post and here I am again, composing this week's drivel ;-D

I have to show Lynn Holland this pic first, I did the puzzle the day it arrived from her, it was fun!

Lots of interesting crafty detail made it very enjoyable, thanks Lynn for sending it, I really appreciate your kindness. It has already been loaned to two other crafty friends, one of whom sent me this pic,

I was intending to start on G's shirt this week - I'd traced and cut out the pattern pieces:

and even got the fabric out to wash and iron....

Isn't it fab? I bought it from a very upmarket Asian fabric shop in London a few years back, when I went to visit my friend Kate. It has sat in my stash for ages. Betty has also expressed her approval and thinks that G will look very fine.

And then plans changed...the load of glasses cases/purses I took down to the cafe a couple of weeks ago have all sold out! As it's the Bank Holiday this weekend, there's bound to be more visitors so out came the old templates and I set to.

The first few using up the oriental fabric....and you can never go wrong with unicorns eh?!

Thought this was a good combo too - I'm going to make a couple of smallish drawstring bags and see how they sell. Worth a try!

In the evenings, I have been doing a bit of cross stitch, nothing quite as complex as Shoshi's but fun nevertheless:

I have really enjoyed doing this again - had forgotten how much I enjoy the process of simple stitching. I had created a chart on graph paper, but true to form, did my own thing. I'm going to use these for Christmas cards!

And many doubted my brother's claim about his cherry tomatoes last week, so here are a few more:

One weighed 600 grams on its own! There must be something in the water where he lives...... ;-)  He offered to show you the photo of his cucumber but I said that your imaginations are probably vivid enough *grin*

And on that happy note I shall bid you farewell for today - have a great week and keep safe and well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Jan, I'd like to see your brothers cucumber? Oh Matron! :) LOL

The puzzle is fab. Are you going to stick it to a bnoard and have it up on your CR wall?

That shirt material is stunning.

The glasses cases/purses are fab. Love the unicorn material. I'm sure the drawstring bags will sell quickly.

Your cross stich is lovely.

Happy WOYWW
Sue

Oh Jan, I did smile at the thought of your brother's cucumber lol. Hope the new items for the RNLI shop go down well with the bank holiday - not that the weather is playing ball at the moment. I look forward to seeing a picture of G in his new shirt! Stay safe and happy WOYWW Sarah #4

Just don’t ask G too wear his crochet trousers with that shirt, I can already tell you, they wont go with each other! That is a seriously fab piece of fabric. Bart would run a million miles from the idea of having a shirt from it, so saving me a job!! It made me howl last week when I saw the name on Steve’s comment, I think a show of the cucumber may well have given me the vapours, ooh missuss!! So sweet of Lynn to send you that entirely appropriate jigsaw. Now I wonder if anyone could find anything appropriate on a jigsaw for your brother.....

These comments are making me smile!!
I need to show you a picture of my brother's sunflowers (14 feet tall)!
Hope the shop does well on the bank holiday - so many of teh RNLI places are still closed...
Happy WOYWW! Stay safe and keep well. Susan #9

You do make me laugh Jan - love the cucumber comment and the tomatoes are bigger than any I've seen for along time (ooh er!). The fabric is gorgeous - he'll look very dapper when it's made.
How lovely of Lynn to send you the jigsaw and such an appropriate theme too - she's a lovely gal.
Your little cases and bags are absolutely beautiful, and I'm sure this lot will be snapped up again very quickly.
Hope you have a great week,
Hugs, Diana xx #15

Thanks for the visit to mine Jan - I'm staggered to learn that Mombretia is the old name for Crocosmia - I have always thought they were two different plants that just looked similar - I have my mum's old Mombretia in the back garden and newer Crocosmia in the front garden! Just goes to show - you live and learn!! xx

Morning Jan!! Yes the weeks do fly - loving that puzzle, looks fun to do. Some of them with too much sky/water are a challenge but it gets boring!! Well done you for getting your charity stock up again - you are so talented! I am sorry, those are not cherry tomatoes!! Look tasty though. Have a good week, stay well, stay safe, Cindy #14

I am just following our dad's sage advice about growing large vegetables. At midnight on the night of the first full moon in June, you must sprinkle the veg patch with the best local beer. But first, you must drink the beer ;-)

I'm so happy to see you being inspired by my cross stitch, Jan! I love your little Christmas trees. Your basket of threads looks like mine - a glorious tangle lol!! It looks as if you've got your hands full as usual with your wonderful sewing projects. As for your bro's "cherry" tomatoes, lol lol!! You made me laugh with the comment about the cucumber!!!!! I remember once a couple I know who had a hotel, the husband served up two tomatoes and a sausage for someone's breakfast, and his wife said, "You CAN'T serve it like that!" No need to say more, is there!

Thank you for your visit - glad you got a laugh out of the raspberry! Yes, mischievous sense of humour for sure. My hubby wasn't sure when I told him what I was going to do - he always worries what people will think and he always thinks my wackiness will upset people!! He needs to go to the humour gym I think. He takes things, life, himself, far too seriously in my opinion! He gets cross when I laugh at him.

I'm going to re-draw the cross stitch pattern and get rid of the errors in case I want to work it again. If you look carefully you can see that the birds are different, and the top figures are more squat than the bottom ones! Bugs me when I see that...

Happy WOYWW,

Love the fabric for the shirt. Ooh, I would not dare cut into it, it would be a stroke job for a long time. Am so looking forward to seeing it finished - and modelled!
You are so good to break off making the shirt to replenish things at the shop - no wonder they sell out so quickly and I love the idea of the combo with the blue spots.
Lovely cross stitch and great tommies.

Hiya Jan, and thank you for the cards, they arrived safely!OMG- those tomatoes! I must admit my sandwich of choice is usually cheese and tomato.Smashing little cross stitch, not done any for years now.Love all the oriental fabrics, they are so beautiful. Thats going to make an awesome shirt! I *think* I'm getting on top of stuff now, fingers crossed.I just seem to have lumbered from one thing to another. But I'm losing a bit of weight, so there's always a silver lining. Love and hugs to you all, Stay safe, Shaz #3XxXxXx

Oh Jan, you had me laughing out loud mentioning your brother's cucumber *lol* I saw the tomatoes on FB and I DO believe they can really grow that big... but do they taste well or are they 'watery'? The oriental-fabric purses are wonderful, you even made the pattern connect (how do you say it in English? I mean, the 'flap' fits on the 'underlayer'...) Hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy the start of the Tour de France (yes, I know you're a fan too.) Big hug from Holland. Marit #18

That will be one funky shirt! Is it for a special occasion? The oriental fabric looks stunning! Could scan it in and use it as a background in card making! The little cross stitch looks cute - I can see that it's rewarding to make your own patterns. Hopefully the winds will cease soon - I hate to see all our plants and trees blown around this violently, though hubs says it's good for them as it makes them stronger - a bit like how adverse conditions build character but I'm not convinced! It must be even worse on the shores - we're as far inland as can be and it's still pretty bad here. Happy #586! Have a lovely week, Jan! zsuzsa #20

Hi, Jan!

Nothing posted from me this week.
We have a leak in the basement and are trying to find the source. Moving everything and have to toss a lot due to water damage! Even have been ripping up carpet!
I’m exhausted!

Happy Wednesday!

Loving all the sewing projects - the material for Gs shirt looks amazing. That jigsaw is wonderful. I have eaten tomatoes like that before - not as tasty as smaller varieties but still yummy when fresh from the plant. Enough said about the cucumber! Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe, with love and God Bless, Caro xx (#11)

Hi Jan, cherry tomatoes - they're more like beefsteak tomatoes. Is your brother sure there hasn't been a mix up with the seeds??? Love that jigsaw and can understand why it's popular with you crafty friends. I've only made one man's shirt in my life and it was a lifetime ago. Never again! Your chosen fabric is beautiful as is the oriental design used in the glass cases/purses - gorgeous! All your fabric choices are gorgeous. The cross stitch is a great way of filling in the time spent on the sofa and will make lovely Christmas cards. I'd like to say I was continuing to crochet up the oddments of yarn as planned but Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Elizabeth #21

Hello friend! I am making more rounds today. I can never make it to many desks on Wednesday so I have to spread it out a bit. Today is my youngest's birthday so I am stealing a few minutes to pop around and snoop. Your fabric looks really nice and I can't wait to see the shirt. I can't believe you can whip up batches of glasses cases and purses so fast! That's fantastic. I know they will be appreciated by their new owners. Well done on the puzzle. I put mine away for the colder months which at this rate will be here in a blink of an eye. Oh, I love the cross-stitch and it will make such an amazing card. I would frame it! Tell your dear brother that we don't need to see his cucumber but his tomatoes look fantastic! :)
