ONE KIND FAVOUR...

Actually, this week isn't about asking favours, it's all about friends surprising each other with RAKs :-D  The best sort of week, don't you think?

But first, the desk:
The scraps box is out again!  I've got a tutorial on the ipad on how to make cathedral window pin cushions - the last one I made was for Shoshi and that was a good while ago. I'd forgotten how to do the folding and ironing fabric origami bit so had to refresh my memory. You can also see the C*&%^$%£*s stockings I'm making for the Knit Stitch and B*tch charity stall - they're all sewn up but now comes the tedious bit of seam clipping and turning out the right way.....

Halfway through! This is for my mate Helen who needed a new pincushion as her cat Molly ate the last one (bet THAT litter tray was interesting!!). Helen loves spots so these scraps were my choice. It was nice to be able to surprise her with this...

as Helen had given me some jars of chutney, spiced jelly, lemon curd and carrot cake which she'd entered for a local show. I love getting cast offs if they're like that, lol!!

Some other lovely unexpected things that arrived this week were:

These beautiful roses from Sandra, a friend who came to stay recently. Gorgeous colour!

And a card and some buttons from Julia! She'd noted that my button stash had diminished and so shared a few of hers - thanks mate, they will definitely be used! It was just fab to receive these unexpected gifts :-D

Do you remember that I'd been dragged to a new shop last week? Well, I did buy a few things, it would have been rude not to....
Some more buttons for bunting and two pieces of quilting cotton. I thought they could be used for Christmas/Hogmanay double sided doggy bandannas! Or something else, see where my fancy takes me....

In the shop (which was very good btw) were a few quilts displayed on the wall - I loved this one and could think of a few deskers who would like to take this home:
It was the first ever quilt made by this lady - I think she's found her talent, don't you? The central panel was bought in the US and the other colours bought to match from this little shop. Brilliant isn't it? I wish I possessed the necessary patience.....

Have a great week everyone - I hope that any deskers in Florida are safe and well xx

Happy WOYWW. I love the pincushion. Looks complicated? The yellow roses reminded me of my MIL - her favourite. That quilt is stunning - and fab to see something different as a design. Is it a local shop? Ali x #7

WOW! to the pincushion! How clever are you? I managed to turn up a few hems on trousers nowadays but even in my best days could never have made that .... wow!
As you can tell I am impressed, as I am with your reserve in not buying the shop just those gorgeous buttons and great materials.
Have a good week and enjoy your gifts.

Am always a bit boggled by the cathedral window technique, it is fascinating. Bet Helen was really pleased. It's funny what you get in the habit of using and cant get on without isn't it. Lovely selection of bunting buttons, nice shapes and colours, they look fab just in the bag!
See you Sunday. Xxxxxx

Such lovely fabrics/makes there Jan. The colour scheme/panel on that quilt are fab - like you, I just wish I had the patience to do it. Annie and I had a trip to Watson and Thorntons yesterday. Brian had a raffle so we bought tickets of course - a basket full of lovely crafty bits and bobs. I said I would have a strip and he laughed and started unbuttoning his shirt and said I could tuck the fiver in his trouser top!!! Needless to say - I blushed modestly and paid up and left hastily - ha ha ha!!! xx Jo

Hi Jan, what a cute pin cushion; love the fabrics and that quilt is rather amazing too. You have had some lovely gifts this week; those large red dotty buttons would be great as the tops of toadstools lol. I'm glad to see you were so polite when visiting a new shop. See you at the crop. Sarah #26

OH WOW,your patience as a seamstress is just amazing to me Jan, I love how the pincushion turned out. I have been debating about "finishing" the small pieces of fabric I collected a few years back ( all small prints) I had started ironing on iron-on paper to the back to it so, I could die cut it and iron it to cardstock for cards lol. and the basket of fabric is a guilty thing to me so, maybe I will finish that project some day. :) but, I think it really gets my mama some days that I do not use my sewing machine (she bought me) for fabric. I love those Christmas prints that followed you home too, ~Stacy #33

What an adorable pincushion, do you have the link you used to make it please, I really ought to try and make something with my sewing machine not just repair stuff. I tend to put a strip of elastic on the back of my pincushions so I can attach them to my wrist which makes it all so much easier for me whilst machining, not that I do much these days hence the interest in your pin cushion.... Honestly I don't suffer from feeling warm all the time, especially in this current climate, I did suffer back in May/June though. Still hoping this will indicate "the end" in the lady department, especially as I am due the weekend my son goes to Uni and won't be able to travel there otherwise, fingers (legs) crossed. Thanks for the visit. BJ#8

The pin cushion is fabulous Jan. Glad your new shop proved to be worth the visit.
You will be pleased to know that our RNLI fund raising has now passed the £1000 mark - a lot of our success has been down to the interest caused by the wonderful items you have provided. Thank you so much.

As to that quilt-WOW, WOW, WOW.....you all know HOW hard I found making a quilt when I ended up bringing it to the crop for fellow WOYWWers to help me out of a muddle so I take my hat off to her-and LOVE the 'Nightmare before Christmas' panel too-it got me thinking!!!

Love the pincushion, Jan - and I continue to love the one you made for me - it sits on my desk and is in constant use, having pins of different thicknesses for pricking holes in things, and unblocking the top of my liquid glue amongst other things! Do you remember I drew it on the ATC I sent you? Thank you for your comment which made me smile - I quite agree with you, the names of the Infusion colours are hilarious! There's been quite a bit of comment amongst those of us who use them, about "Slime" in particular!! Thank you for your kind words about my weight loss - everyone is remarking on it these days and the other day my sister told me how much better I was looking and that before, I was "hefty" lol lol!! A very accurate description of pre-diet Shoshi!!

Happy belated WOYWW,
