WOYWW 315

BECAUSE YOU KNOW I'M ALL ABOUT THAT BASS......

First things first.....it's a notice to Save the Date.  Saturday 31st October to be precise. Yep, a date for the second WOYWW Crop of 2015 has been pencilled in the diary.  A spookily crafty Halloween feast-a-rama awaits those daring enough to join Julia and I for the day. Same place as usual :-)  Who's up for it? Julia will be doing a new Crop page at some point....sign up there!

Right....it's been a busy week and I haven't made that much.
I was playing around with the gorgeous new fabrics that Sally gave me a couple of weeks back. I liked the combination of floral and stars - that lavender spot was in my stash already. Whenever I'm in Fabricland, I tend to stock up on spotty polycottons as they're incredibly useful and only £3.99 a metre.

I left a raggedy edge to the heart.....

And the finished beach/shopping bag.

A bit of fun to brighten up someone's day :-)  Dunno what I'm going to do with it yet though!

I used the offcuts to make a small zipped bag but instead of the usual rectangles of fabric, found a different pattern to try. It looks really odd at this point, all splayed out like that.....
But this way gives a wider base and a more triangular prism sort of shape, which I rather like. It's more funky somehow.  I'm going to give this bag away...let me know in the comments if you'd like a chance to win :-) I think it needs some buttons or other embellishment to fancy it up a little, so it may well change again, lol!!

Two more fab ATCs landed on my doormat as well, from Jill (left) to Sylvia (right). The pretty card in the middle was given to me by my friend Helen, to say thank you for all the little bits and pieces I made for her charity stall.

I said I've been busy....it was with my brass band. Our Musical Director has been involved in bands for 70 years and unbeknownst to him, a trip was arranged to go to Harwich, in Essex, where he was born and first picked up a cornet. The local band wanted to come and join in as well.....
David had no idea this had been arranged - the first he knew of it was when he walked around the corner and there we all were!  It was very emotional and quite wonderful - I was honoured to have been part of it. (I'm at the back in the bandstand, btw - if you peer closely, you might spot me!)

So, that's why I picked today's lyric....I play the Bass and I chose a different base for the make up bag. My mind works in strange and mysterious ways.......grin!

Have a good week!

Great news about the October crop - like I said to Julia, it's so lucky it's that weekend not the one before, as I'm away! I saw the band photo on FB but not the reason behind it - how lovely!! Helen, 3

A play on words is always fun for me. Isn't the English language a hoot? Even YOUR English!!

Really liked that bag with the heart. Wish I could sew like you, or even cut and measure half like you. Your latest pouch creation was fun to follow, but I would never be able to make anything like it. Nor could I even LIFT the bass, much less play one. Happy WOYWW from # 5.

Love the bag with the heart. As if that was not enough you have made that lovely case in what looks like a really complicated shape. Please count me in on the draw.
Found my fabric now I just need to decide on what I want.
Lovely what you all did for David, can imagine it was hard to blow your trumpet when you were feeling all choked up. Not a dry eye?
Hugs, Neet 13 xx

Hi Jan, happy WOYWW and thanks for visiting my desk already. I did a catch up on your last post and just love your work - such fun, bright, useful items, you're very clever. Love this week's fabric and that little triangle purse - fabulous. Glad to see my ATC arrived and sad I don't live in the UK so I could go to the next crop. Have a wonderful week Cheers RobynO#16

But we love your mind Jan, strange and mysterious though it may be!! Love the bag, before I saw it was going to be a giveaway I was in love with the material. I totally get your spot affinity - I have a ton of spotty papers, I don't know why but they always seem to work. Date is already in the diary!! Love a brass band! Happy WOYWW, Cindy xx

Oh that song is so perfect you! What a precious thing to do for your musical director. That photo is just so fun and splashy with color with everyone in their uniforms--it really needs to be a large framed piece hanging somewhere. How do you make your makeup bags such a cute shape, and they look so sturdy! There must be a secret, because at first it did look all splayed out and then it's this beautiful, perfect looking little bag! Once again, you've made such cute things today I had to pin them to my sewing board on Pinterest. I hope you are having a great week and feeling good, and you look so cute in the band picture back there in the bandstand! Hugs dearest. Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #43

That purple dot lining totally makes that bag, well both bags actually. That ragged heart is a great focal point. So much fun to beat the band... er, with the band. Judy #55

Hi Jan - started a comment this morning and the door bell rang and I've not stopped since :-) the bags are gorgeous and of course I would like to win your give away but maybe that's being a bit greedy as I won before :-) How lovely the surprise for your Musical Director - he must have been very touched. DH and I had a nice surprise in week. Our grandson Sam who plays the cornet in a band had to start a new band last week. When our son took him there was a spare trombone and Matthew stayed and joined in!!! He last played about 20 years ago - he was in Youth Orchestra but gave it all up when he went to Uni - we hope he continues with it - it will be great for Sam as well if his dad does it with him. Sorry I've rambled on. It's lovely to be back and thanks for visiting me. Anne x #25

Two lovely projects Jan. I really like that aqua and pink floral fabric - I'll have to look out for it. And of course I'd love to win that little zipped case - you'll have give us a lesson on inserting zips - it looks really neat - unlike any I've tried :-(

Love the abstract tree print fabric! And I don't think it needs any further embellishment?
(Nice shape too.)
I too was taught the thumb cast on method by my mother and it has worked fine for many, many years ... but ... this method gives a lovely, neat and more elastic edge. It's a bit fiddly, it takes a bit longer and I have to find the instructions each time, but it is so worth it :)
(Will send you a link, if you like.)
