YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE....

Hi everyone, hope you're having a good week! Mine has been really quite busy since we last met....what's been going on?  Well, join me for a coffee and biscuits and we'll have a natter......

You find me mid cutting out of the components of a tote bag which will eventually be en route to Denmark!  This will be the first time I've used that Botanicals fabric. D'you know, I really like it!  I already had this spotty contrast fabric - in fact, it's what's left over from last week's ironing board construction - and found the two went really well together. Look....

I love it!  So that's the work in progress at the moment.

Do you need a refill of coffee yet?  I'll put the kettle back on - wait a minute, I'll be back! I can do tea, if you'd prefer? And a slice of lemon drizzle cake too?

I bought the printed hessian on the right in a sale. It was £3.99 a metre. I thought it would make great shopping bags, especially if I line it. I've never worked with hessian before, so it may turn out to be reminiscent of the Great Oilcloth Fiasco of 2012....or it may be ok. I thought it was worth a try for that sort of price. And I was given 2 metres of the fabric on the left by a friend who is decluttering!  I'm sure that can be put to good use somehow :-)

The rest of the week has been spent gardening and cooking - we threw an engagement party for our son Owen and his fiance Jen.

That was fun!  Now I'm not the best flower arranger in the world but I did this for the party table:

I really enjoyed snipping and shoving the flowers into the oasis!

How's that for a shot of In-Your-Face-Hot Pink?? Love it :-)

Well, that's it - coffee break is over. Better get back to that bag making. TTFN xxxx

Congrats to the happy couple. Love the garland.
Well Jan, those bags are going to be super pretty with those fabrics, interesting to see how the canvas ones turn out but I think the fabric is fantastic!
Enjoy that lemon drizzle (drool)

I take mine white with two sugars and I'll have a big slice of cake (it's my birthday tomorrow so I can have a big bit). That botanical fabric is so gorgeous, that's the best one you've had. Can't wait to see the bag finished. Have fun with those heavy fabrics, scary stuff there. Such a lovely photo of lovebirds, they make a lovely couple. So, you've been hiding a deep dark secret, flower arranger extraordinaire. Snipping and shoving your way to a perfect bunch, just beautiful.
Have a great week and sew up a storm.

Lovely fabrics Jan and congratulations to your son and his girl! Your flower arrangement is lovely too. Its very satisfying when you DIY isn't it, especially as they cost a bit from the florist. I always do the arrangement for the Christmas table now with candles and all,,, It's become a bit of a tradition!
Have a happy week

I do like that botanical fabric and it goes so well with the spots, picking out the colours. I think I've said it before, but many congratulations to your boy and his lovely girl. I bet you had a lovely party. Have you tried gluing any zips yet? I've been doing a bit of research and it turns out I have the worst zipper foot there is! I think I need a new one!

Congrats to Owen and Jen ! WOW lovely, lovely flowers. The variety and colors are true fun.
Having the 90's this week, lacking rain, so watering and working with garden products. Missing my blogging life, but that's how it's been. Enjoy what's left of summer

Hi Jan, mines a coffee and a piece of Lemon drizzle cake. I love the botanicals fabric and the hessian, but then you always seem to have smashing fabric on your desk.
Congratualtions to the happy couple, and they do look happy. Are you looking forward to being a 'Mother in Law'? I found it very daunting.
Chris (No desk this week.)

Oh I so enjoyed that coffee break with you! I actually am drinking my morning coffee here in my office on campus, it's about 8:55 in the AM. I have a lovely quiet office with a big window where I can see the university's stadium and a huge fountain outside. So we've had a lovely break together! Tee hee! I am so happy for Owen and Jen! How many are in the bridal party? All I can say for Jen is that she is the luckiest girl in the world to get such a handsome fiance and amazing in-laws!! She must be a wonderful girl. I love that botanical fabric--you have the BEST taste in fabric!! I still love my Downton quarters so much, I can hardly bare to think of cutting them, but cut them I must if I'm going to make them into a table runner! Then I can have a proper Downton tea! I was wondering if the new season is showing there. I guess it's just as well that we get it in the dead of winter, because D.A. and Call the Midwife make winter much more bearable because those are my two favorite shows in the world! Now, pass that lemon drizzle cake please! And a big hug to you soul sister. We're also the gardening queens! Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #51

Thanks for your visit and your lovely comment, Jan - still quite a bit of work to do on the card but I hope I will manage to strike the right balance with it. My hubby's tooth is now out, and he says it really wasn't too bad, but it feels fairly tender now, not surprisingly, so I told him to dose himself up with some painkillers before it got too bad (no sense in suffering) and he's also feeling pretty exhausted, also not surprising. He really does deserve a medal! He's such a star, and he does so much for me, and also for Mum, and I don't know how we'd manage without him!

Hello LLJ,

Oh, that tote is going to be adorable! I should commission you to make a couple (one for me and one will be a gift). Your son is adorable; love the bunting you made for him and his fiance! I'd say you did a great job on the flower arrangement! A woman of many talents.

Me again!! Just wanted to say I'm so excited that you're making some jewelry! And I wanted to tell you that yes, I actually do water-bath canning with the salsa, so it is shelf stable for a year or two! But it should actually be used within a year according to the official Ball Blue Book. Do you guys use the Ball Blue Book in the UK? I never thought about that before! It is like the canning bible over here. Hugs!

Ah, your talents are boundless, LLJ!! That table arrangement is nothing short of gorgeous and looks very professional! Owen and Jen look like babies! Don't tell them I said that, they would hate it, but you know what I mean. Me and the Mister were babies, too, and we did just fine, and our son, too, married at only 23 which is so young by today's standards. Ramble over, I wish them all the best!!

I'm loving that botanical print and the match is nothing short of miraculous! Don't you love it when that happens? Well, I'd best get hopping. Thanks for the vod, er, tea and thanks for coming to see me! Happy WOYWW and have a wonderful week! Hugs, Darnell #19

Oh I got an error while trying to post there..
Love the fabric, especially the one with the tag on it. Congratulations on the engagement of your son, and love the flowers, it sure does brighten the screen and I can imagine it does bring joy in the room.
The flowers I got in the house now are picked out of the garden by my son - they're 3 inch high and are in a tiny vase on the table!

Have you got any more coffee in the pot? I am seriously thirsty tonight. Congratulations to Owen and Jen and I bet that was a good party. Your material selections are just so pretty. The buddleias I am using are a special variety for patio use called Buddleia Buzz and I have three different colours. Two of them have been in since March and have remained small and bushy, and smothered with flowers and butterflies.I got the originals from Thompson and Morgan but the new ones came from a local garden centre. They will still need hard pruning in February/March. Have a great week. xx Maggie #20
