THERE'S A HOLE IN MY BUCKET, DEAR LIZA, DEAR LIZA,
THERE'S A HOLE IN MY BUCKET, DEAR LIZA,
A HOLE......

Many of the lovely folks who commented on last week's post, said 'Fabric what?? Bucket??'

Well, here it is - in the process of having its corners reinforced...and let me tell you, at the grand old age of 51 and 3/4, there's a lot that needs reinforcing in my life!

Et Voila... the finished bucket/bin/receptacle...the reinforcement gives it extra rigidididititity...sorry, couldn't quite finish the spelling there.....

This project has been kicking around for a while...I started off quilting around each flower on this quilt and got bored. So, calling to mind this year's mantra of Just Do It, I thought if I just do a couple at a time, it'll soon get finished...I ran lines of stitching between the rows of flowers using a dotted zig zag, it's really effective!

I have been admiring Julia's skill with the crochet hook recently and thought to myself that I really should try again. So, after watching a couple of Youtube tutorials..and also from a wonderful blog called Sandra's Cherry Hearts, here are my first attempts...

Just an ever increasing Granny square...
And the start of a baby blanket...the yarns are mostly Sirdar Crofter Baby DK, leftovers from the knitted squares that I started a few weeks back...but I like the effect of the crochet so much, the knitting is going to be unravelled!  I cannot get over how quick the crochet grows - it's a good thing to just do a couple of rows too without mucking up the tension. I am really enjoying it!

Julia introduced me to this blog. The colours that Sandra uses are just gorgeous and I like the photography too. I spent a good couple of hours trawling through all the beautiful things......

And finally....I was musing what to use as my closing shot...when who should fly into my garden on Monday evening but this fine fellow....

He's obviously just caught something..he wasn't bothered by Mr LLJ leaning out of the window to catch him on camera....

'Have you got my best profile?'   *grin*
We were really pleased to have seen this beautiful Peregrine Falcon..when he finally left, he was like greased lightning...amazing!

Have a great week!

love your pretty bucket and I am with you on the just do it! I am not sure I would have had the patience to stitch around every flower!
I am in awe of your crocheting! I have been putting off learning that skill myself all year but as I am having problems with my elbow when I knit I think it would be the perfect hobby for me! I can do regular stitches it is the starting off that stumps me!
What a great photo of the falcon, I do love to see them but also feed sad for the little bird that became supper!

Happy WOYWW. I am in awe of your 'beginner' crochet skills. I so want to crochet and have tried several times, but just don't get it. I can knit, but had to give up because my hands/arms couldn't cope. Annoyingly, my hubby can crochet and keeps going on about how simple it is - but perhaps it is my Fibromyalgia that makes my brain/hands not communicate very well? Wonderful colours - and how amazing to see a Peregrine Falcon so close up. Ali x #28

WOW love the bucket box but the Peregrine Falcon wins the vote for me. We had a Sparrowhawk catching a Collard dove in our garden a few years back which we too caught on camera. DH threw the carcus away much to the annoyance of the bird who came back for seconds! BJ#2

Hi Jan, those lyrics and that song fair take me back ... my kids loved their dad and I performing - I can't say it was singing - it night after night to them. Other kids like a lullaby, not mine!!! You are busy, what with fabric buckets, quilting, crochet ... when do you stop :) The Peregrine Falcon is amazing but he's clearly plucking the feathers from a cute wee birdie, ugh! Have a great day, Elizabeth x #37

Oh you know how I like the stitched up the seams bags..rigidnessness is a great thing! So what's this particular bucket bag for then huh? Huh? I can spot a mickey take at 500 yards missus..you Just Do It and I'll make an effort and any minute now you'll have a list of things to do........still loving the fleece. Doesn't the crochet look pretty.....gorgeous colours.

Ahhhhhhh - you had the dude who visited us a few weeks ago! (on me FB pics). Are you sure he's a Peregrine though and not a Sparrowhawk? More likely to be the latter as the former prefer cliffs and skyscrapers! And that looks suspiciously like a sparrow in a grasp. We had the same dilemma.... LOL

Love the crochet - mine is a very slow process and I think the small children in question will be married before they get their blankets!

Love and light....

Thanks for sharing him with us, my highlight this week and I have only just started desk hopping.

Gorgeous bucket... and the falcon is beautiful! I know they nest in Chichester Cathedral (near where Mum used to live) but have never seen one close up - you are lucky! Good luck with the stamping on the atc's - we'll make a papercrafter of you yet!! Still not sure what to bring with me to the crop, but I am SO looking forward to it again. See you then... Helen, 17, no 16, we've all budged up one.

Stunning photos of the bird Jan - I agree with Morti - think it might be a Sparrow Hawk but nevertheless it's always a great spot to see one in your garden. It means there are plenty of little birds around for them to feast on. We have one that often does a "fly through" to see what he can grab from my bird feeders. x Jo

The term bucket really does a disservice to the amazing things you create with fabric. Now if I tried to make a fabric bucket it would look like a bucket! Amazing falcon pic I wonder what the unfortunate/but necessary feast looked like pre falcon. Not gloomy just curious.

What a gorgeous, colourful blog and how creative you are with textiles. This was such a heart-warming glimpse into a colourful, creative world and the wonderful shots of the peregrine falcon were the icing on the cake. Thank you so very much for sharing! I won't say how old I am, but I need reinforcing round more than the edges, I think!#58xxxJulie Ann

Love to see nature close up, even if only one of the two is still alive! We had a similar experience one winter with a young hawk that took to stalking our bird feeder and got lucky one day. Love the bags as usual and great fabric. Well done on the crocheting, I still can't so it to save my life!!

Crickey Jan, I’ve not heard that song for years……….showing my age now!
I found it very satisfying going back to working with wool again recently and it sounds as you have too. You’ve done a great job with the ‘oversized’ granny square. The only problem is that as it gets bigger it takes so long to work all the way around it. On the up side, it keeps your knees warm.

Love your wild life shot, very impressive. I have a photo of a birdie on my blog this week too.
Happy Crafting!

Your crochet looks gorgeous!! Remember my attempt, not that long ago? My square kept going in a circle! (and we won't mention Julia's elephant) So I am thrilled that Julia's crochet has progressed so well. This gives me hope! You know, when I was at that greenhouse, which is on the third floor of a big building, I thought of you, knowing you would LOVE it! Oh how I love shopping when I'm "at work." I can't wait to break out of my office today, though, run to Wal-Mart, and then go home and knit! I'm newly inspired on my knitting squares to get a cute blanket done! Hugs to you dearest!! Awesome shots there, Mr. LLJ! I do love those regal birds of prey, altho I also wish they wouldn't feed on their own, as it were. But, alas, just another aspect of life that I'm not in charge of, more's the pity!

You've provided a fantastic photo essay of your sewing and crotchiting. Oh, pardon me, that doesn't look right. I've never been tempted to take up knitting, but now you've actually got me wondering about crocheting! Hmmmm.

Have a wonderful week, Jan, and thanks for the earlier visit!! Darnell #37

A brayer is a hand roller used in printmaking techniques to spread ink in the process of offsetting an image from a plate to paper.
Thought darn how am I going to describe what a brayer is then googled it for you..
Its on my desk on the right it has a handle and a roller and you just roll it on the ink pad and then over your image..
I am just learning how to use mine I have had it for ages..
