WOYWW

BACK TO LIFE,
BACK TO REALITY
It's been a month of upheaval and emotion (see previous post) but my mum would have wanted me to carry on..so I am.
There is a definite therapy involved in the measuring and cutting out of fabric. It's quite restful to do after all the turmoil. So here's my desk.
I'm using some leftover fabric to make two reversible tote bags for my shop.
I thought I'd make two bags, both the same with pocket details on the spotty side.
The spotty side..
The stripy side
I rather like them - they're bright and cheerful.
A couple of weeks ago, I started making personalised bunting. This was a commission for a friend to give as a present.
You don't hear of many babies called Douglas these days - I think there's a Scottish connection in the family. I also made this colourful bunting for another very special little boy.
And then I got some scraps together for another little project but can't show you the results yet..it's a secret :)
That's it..short and sweet. Please forgive me if I don't return all the comments, I'm back to Wales again tomorrow. xx

How funny..... as I started to read your post this morning I thought I would mention my Dad in my comments - he died somewhat unexpectedly and when we all got back from the hospital we ended up with a chinese takeaway and were laughing about some funny things that Dad would have been huffy over. The irony of grief and how normal things can be when all the world is falling apart around you. And how helpful normal things are when you're grieving.

And then I scrolled down a little further and there on your post is a picture of bunting with the name Douglas on.... My Dad's name. How touching, and how funny...

Sending you a lot of love - your Mum was amazing and it shows in her smile - she brought up an amazing daughter.... who has amazing boys... and I'm sure ahe knew it.

The baby bunting is such a gorgeous idea and something they can keep up in their room way past being a baby. Love that some of the old fashioned names are coming back - so much nicer than some of the weird ones. (Says she with a daughter called Devon but you know what I mean *g*)

(p.s don't bother trying to repay the visit to mine, have not even posted yet! Hyper 4 year old trying to ride on a worried looking Jack Russell to keep watch on!)

Hi Jan, what a riot of fabby colour, and the bags and bunting are just super-duper dahling :)

I do recommend The Best Exotic etc. etc. - but not just yet Jan. It's book about old age - albeit very funny - some things really made me gulp a bit though - whilst a lot made me snort with laughter.

Sending hugs, Di xx

Hi Jan, any kind of craftwork is very therapeutic, I think. If I'd been scrapping or cardmaking seven years ago when I lost my beloved mother it would have helped enormously so I think it can only help you to keep sewing. The bag is lovely and the baby bunting is beautiful - Douglas is one of our Scottish family names, both as a surname and as a forename. So we belong to the Clan Douglas, I wonder if this baby's family are too. Look forward to seeing what you make with your scraps. Hope you have a happy and creative WOYWW. Elizabeth x #42

Creativity and Art are indeed great healers, good 'therapy' as well! Absolutley adore those bags! How bright and cheery are those....must get me one! :D Put a nice smile on your face! :)

Thaks for the lovely comments, I'll manage, just sooooo many things to deal with at the moment everything is 'upside down and inside out'! Just concentrate on one thing at a time and it'sll be ok...

Thanks for sharing,

Take care and nice to see you back!

Your bags are great. I bet your mum thinks so too. She sounds like the sort of lady who would be happy to see you busy doing something you enjoy. I still miss my mum, eighteen years after she left us, but I often talk to her, and hear her talking to me. I know how she would respond to most situations, and I have so many happy memories to keep her in my heart, so I hope you have too. They will help to fill the space her leaving has left behind. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Kate x

I am SO sorry to read about your mother. I know art helps. There is something about immersing yourself in your art and your hobbies. And what you have created speaks to all that. I hope your grieving period is brief, but from experience, I'm sure it won't be. Happy WOYWW from number 5 who you already visited.
