THE HEAT IS ON.....
Wow, what a Scorcher! It's been way too hot for me over the past week and my little corner of Wales hasn't had it half as bad as some of you lot in the South East. I feel for you, I really do, hope the temps are going down from today.
I've spent some time in the JanCave with a nice breeze coming through the open window:
I didn't hang around with the new fabrics as shown last week!
They do make for pretty gift sets! I've got an unexpected craft fair this Saturday (was offered a cancellation spot) so thought I'd make a few more items for the stall.
I love this Klimt-esque sunflower design, it's a really soft cotton too, lovely to handle. I'm doing one set each of the green and yellow lining. There was just enough over to make a little zippy bag or two as well:
Hopefully these will appeal to someone!
My mate Helen passed on some curtains she no longer had use for, they were made from Next Cotton fabric so perfect for upcycling. I started unpicking one afternoon:
Sitting on the JanCave bed in the breeze, it was lovely! However it took me so long to unpick the first one that I just cut off the heading tape of the second, I had to sacrifice some fabric that way but it was either that or my sanity!! The fabric will make great beach bags or peg bags, perfect around here.
That's it for today, short and sweet. Hope you're keeping as cool as you can xxxxxx

It has been unbearable here, watching the tennis I do not know how they do it... was nearly 34 here yesterday. Today is supposed to be better...I don;t blame you for cutting off the curtain headings, you couldn't unpick that lot twice! Happy WOYWW Helen xx '2
Yes, way too hot for me too. I've chilled with the tennis on tv each afternoon. I had a wonderful cool swim yesterday morning. Your makes look lovely and I love that sunflower fabric. Well done with the recycling - I would cut off headings etc.Goodvluck with your craft fair.x x Jo 🌈
Totally unbearable even WITH my air-con unit, so glad it is over for now and hoping we don't get anymore heatwaves over the Summer. Summer is quickly descending into my lease favourite season! Super curtain material, I need new curtains! Adore the sunflower fabric and also the little zippy bags, so useful for all sorts of things. You'll be the "Unexpected Star of the Show". Hugs Bj#7
Ah unpicking. when ou get the pick just right and it all seems to fall apart, it's bliss. Get it wrong, and have to pick out every little thread? Torture. I would go with scissors, You'll get enough out of it I'm sure, LLJ the layout wizard always does! Thank goodness it's cooler today... Happy WOYWW

Well done you with the sewing. It's hot here too but my fan in my sewing room makes it cool enough to sew.
Hugs,

You are good Jan, I'm not sure it would have occurred to me to unpick the heading, the hems yes, but the chopping off way would have been my first thought! It's really nice fabric too, immediately puts me in beach hut/seaside territory! Like for everyone, sleeping hasn't been hugely easy this week, and somewhere in the early morning I was wishing you would make eye masks for those of us that need it to stay dark! I've got a 'satin' one that I couldn't face, thought it would just add to the sweaty!! Love the sunflowers still, talk about gorgeous useful.
Glad you were able to keep cool in the Jan Cave. Hard to choose the favourite fabric, they are all so nice. I was drawn to the dandelion one at first, love those pufballs or whatever they are called but then the bright ones caught my eye and I got in a quandary. They are all so beautiful. One thing I knew straight away though - the tops would have been cut of both the curtains!
Take care, Hugs, Neet x 3 xx
All beautiful makes and hope they sell well. I unpicked a pair of curtains a few weeks ago to get the maximum Holly Hobbie fabric from them. I’ve now discovered the other volunteers just whack off the tops, bottoms and side seams with the rotary cutter!! Catriona
Yesterday and today are quite cool, trousers and jumpers required! Those pretty makes are indeed pretty. m sure you will make loads of items from the curtains. Happy WOYWW. Angela #13
Hi Jan, beautiful fabrics, good luck with the craft fair though I know it will go well. Wishing you a very happy woyww with hugs Angela x9x
Hi Jan, I do love that green/yellow patterned fabric. So pretty and just a colour combination that appeals to me. Love, too, your little zipper bags. I've been doing a fair bit of unpicking recently - trouser leg hems - that I'm certain I would have given up with those curtains too. Nice fabric though so worth reusing for the bags you plan. Thanks for your comment on my post. I chuckled at your remark regarding make do and mend being trendy again. My mother and grandmother were experts at it because they had to be. They taught me well. Good luck with the unexpected craft fair on Saturday. Hugs, Elizabeth x #15
Dear Jan!
Hot greetings from Austria! I only survive in our living room with air condition and outside with the pool.
You're busy as can be. Wish you all the best for the unexpected craft fair this Saturday. Love those zippy bags!
Send you a big hug. Eva from Austria.
It has been pretty hot🥵 here in Canada as well, we keep hoping that the forecasts of rain will actually happen, but they seem to never do☹️. Gratefully, we have good air conditioning in the house and I actually have to wear a sweater inside! We have a lot of squirrels, and when it's really hot they lay themselves flat on the fence, the arms of the chairs, they are so funny! Your bags are lovely, I am attracted the very bold one, with the red and black. Good luck at your show, have a wonderful week, Lindart #16
Your gift sets and bags are beautiful, and I hope your hey sold well at Binea.
The weather’s cooled down here but it’s heavy and feels like a storm’s coming.
I’m catching up as we were out and about till now.
Hugs
