ALL YOU CAN DO IS STEP BACK IN TIME...

A short and sweet post today linking up with all the deskers for WOYWW at Stamping Ground - apologies straight away, I'm gadding for the next few days so comments may happen at the weekend!

I was a brave crafter this week and had to put on my Big Girl Pants......curtains had to be made.... they were for the big square bay window in my kitchen and believe you me, if I could have bought them from Dunelm, I'd have done so in a flash!!

I found some fabric on Amothreads (I needed 11.4m and there was 13 of this loose weave ivory, meant to be huh?!)  After making the basic curtain I then had the scary part of inserting the eyelets and cutting holes in what I'd just made......shiver.....

They turned out ok, just don't look too closely at the sewing!

I saw so many folks starting to make their Christmas cards last week that I thought I'd better get a shift on:

Lovely papers aren't they? I couldn't resist them when I was pootling around ebay!

And now that the crochet snowflakes and angels have finished, I thought I'd start a blanket to use up stash yarn:

Pretty in pink!

And that's it for me - I thought you might like to see G's ongoing project. Ages ago, someone donated boxes of old glass negative plates to his photography society and they'd got dumped in a cupboard and forgotten about. G thought this was a shame and has undertaken the mammoth task of digitising them.

First he takes a pic using a proper Heath Robinson set-up then uploads them to Photoshop:

Then he has to turn it to a positive image and tidy them up a bit:

It's that magic moment when an image is seen properly for the first time in goodness knows how many years!

And this is the result:

Isn't it fantastic? Obviously a set up picture but wonderful nevertheless. There are other pics from this well to do family but there's no info on names or dates. Hopefully when G has finished and this is given to the County Archives it can go onto the public domain and someone may be able to help.

It's a real labour of love but G is really enjoying himself!

Hope you have a wonderful week - have fun, create some noise and do something you enjoy!

xxxxxxxx

Fab curtains Jan - what a big job - well done on that one! Tell G I think his photo project is wonderful - wouldn't it be such a shame if all those photos had been lost for ever. Your cards are going to be a real bit of Christmas magic I think. xx Jo

This in’s full of WOW! The curtains are a triumph, I love the eyelets….never thought of the scary part about cutting the holes!! Brilliant finish though, hope it gives you confidence for the next pair. Maybe a Christmas fabric???!!!! Gordon’s project is amazing, a social history and the fascination of who when etc, it’s marvellous.

What a great post. Wow. I wish you lived near by. I bought fabric 2 months ago for curtains for winter blockage of cold air. Love the fabric but delayed as what to do for hanging. I wanted what you did with the rings but I don't have the confidence, maybe you tube? Fabric Tabs? Too heavy for clip rings...Our local seamstress retired for health reasons so no option there. Miss my MoM she was a great seamstress. Then I seen G's project ! WOW What a treasure. Have fun with your pretty papers. Enjoy a good week.

OMG those images are fabulous! I wish there were info on them cause I can see them being made into wonderful print on demand items without a doubt. Clever hubby, and clever you - those cards are looking fab - the colours and the stark white edging, really just a perfect choice. And still time to crochet too and make curtains? Jiminy.
(I should be cooking but I can't help but desk hop for a bit!)

Darn my first comment flew away - see if I can remember - I was complementing you on the curtains - not an easy task even for you! Fascinated by Gordon's photographic project - I didn't know you could do that in Photoshop. Must be late Victorian or around 1910 or so? It must be exciting making those negatives come to life! Old technology meets digital. Wishing you a lovely week! xx zsuzsa #20

Oh my, Jan, those curtains must have been a mammoth task! And cutting holes for the rings would have me quaking in my boots too. The finished curtains look perfect from here:) Looks like a lot of us are now panicking ourselves into Christmas cards. Your papers are gorgeous. I'm so impressed with what G is doing with the plates. It looks complicated work and very time consuming but it will be worth it to save all the pictures. Have a great week and happy WOYWW. HI Jan! You did a great job on those curtains! They look fab! I once made curtains like that with the giant holes as well, I remember hammering them in outside on the concrete porch. Quite the job! The paper you found is gorgeous, looking forward to seeing the cards! G's project is awesome! How exciting, and to not know what treasures he will uncover! Have a great week, Lindart #23

Gosh how amazing uncovering those photographs must be. I hope you are going to post everyone of them!
Great job with the curtains- why did you doubt yourself?
Love the colours of your blanket, did you buy the wool for that purpose?
Did you put the white on those papers? I ask because you show a white paint pen.

Those glass ;slides are wonderful. I can well imagine him enjoying himself when he gets results like the end picture. How fantastic to see into the past in this way.
Love your curtains and I am sure the sewing is perfect unlike mine when I do these things. Not that I would ever dare make those rings in anything.
The Christmas card making looks fun and the results seem to be so pretty - hope you enjoyed yourself doing them.

Super Duper curtains, well done you with the big girl pants, know the feeling!!! Paper doilies now there's a thought. I've been pondering some Angel cards to send my angels to special people in and the doilies will do the trick quite nicely I think. We'll see. BJ#5
