GONNA USE IT UP, GONNA WEAR IT OUT....

I liked Julia's new terminology for Wednesdays - it really has been a blur leading up to another Whizzday this week!

I'd supplied a few more items to sell in the Cafe and when I got back, was thinking about what to do next. And I couldn't see the woods for the trees.... or should that be fabric for the scraps?! And it annoyed me...so everything was tipped out of my scraps box and rather than simply folding it all and putting it back in, I sat and cut out what shapes I could for future use.

I've made a start here and have amassed various piles of outers/inners for specs cases, little purses and strips for a quilt. The scraps are going into a big paper carrier bag that will go into recycling.

It's very pleasing to see what shape can be cut out of different sized scraps! I've got through nearly the whole lot now....

... and these strips are building up nicely for when I do a very basic quilt - you know me and quilting, it's a love-hate relationship!

In other news, I played in the National Botanic Gardens of Wales with the Llanelli Community Wind Band on Mothers Day:
Not the best pic (G didn't take it!) but we had a good time playing, the gardens were incredibly busy and I enjoyed all the little birds whizzing past as we were playing!

But the most exciting thing this week has been the arrival of this:

My new table tennis table! We actually painted the walls of the garage and sealed the floor as well as having a clear out. So there's lots of space for a game of ping pong now! My WI buddies were over on Monday and we had a lot of fun. It gets you out of puff if you play properly, all good exercise when you're trying to lose weight :-)

I've got four bats and lots of ping pong balls if you fancy a game - just give me the heads-up that you're on your way, lol!!

Have a good week xxxx

Gosh ping pong - not played that since I was a child and then I suppose I didn't do it properly - most likely on the dining room table. Great idea for the garage - now can I get C to clear out some rubbish from the garage?
Can just spot you in the photo - how nice to play somewhere like that.
Lovely fabrics on display, and all ready to be put to good use another day.
Sending lots of love

Hi Jan, like Helen, I haven't played table tennis in donkey's years! That's a great use of a garage- who keeps cars in them anyway! Well done on sorting through all your material scraps. I'm ashamed to say I haven't even started sewing the quilts for my grandsons, that should have been ready for Christmas (last year!). I'd better get cracking or they won't be getting theirs this year. Have a lovely week Heather x #14

I love all your carefully cut piles of fabrics Jan....I have boxes full that could do with the 'Jan treatment'....in fact next time I have a spare moment I might do exactly that to my box of scraps....its at exploding point at the mo and needs controlling.
Oh to have the room for a full sized ping pong table...lucky you...I'd love a game.
Hugs,

I love table tennis... what fun to have your own set and be able to play when you want. Well done on sorting out all the scraps... I had to do the same with my crafting ones earlier this year, they were in such a mess and annoying me so much. Much better now. Thanks for sharing. Have a lovely week. With love and God Bless, Caro xxx (#10)

Great assortment of fabric and good idea. Oh the days of table tennis ! Was a good lefty at that. No room here, but my son got his dream come true of a new pool table. Had fun with a few games of that on our visit. 3 Kids love it. Have a great week Happy WOYWW

Whizz day indeed, these weeks just fly! I think I'm pretty pants at ping pong but we have booked a villa with a table for our Sept holiday - so I may try and have a practice. (Although I really want to learn how to play snooker, we have one of those as well, I'm too embarrassed to try in public. Obviously I did not have a misspent youth.) What fun to play in the botanical gardens too, that must have been fun. Well done on organising your scraps - I like a good sort out. (Trouble is these days I forget what the rationale was the next day). Happy WOYWW, Cindy #9

Table tennis is not something I have engaged in but my sister in law is a fan - she joined a club and reckons it's what keeps her young!! (79)
Good idea to cut down your scraps, you will probably be more tempted to use them up....
have a good ping pongy week!

Gosh - Ping Pong - that takes me back a good few years although I was never very good at it - I'm terrible at catching and hitting things - no hand/ball co-ordination (ooh er)! I love the fabric all beautifully cut and prepared - you are very organised. What a lovely place for your band to play, it looks like you had a great time.
Hope you have a lovely week,
Hugs, Diana xx #17

I used to love table tennis, at school, youth club and college. Then we acquired a small table which just fitted into the living room. Lots of fun. Enjoy putting all those bits of material together. xxx Maggie (Silvercrafter) #11

I love that you have a ping pong table that is so fun :) you look so happy in that shot Jan, I was also impressed that you all were playing in a garden in short sleeves. ( it hailed here yesterday) and then I noticed the roof, very cool. :) ~Stacy #27

I'd love a game of table tennis with you, Jan. It's been a while so I'm pretty rusty and probably slower than a tortoise. I'm sure you've helped yourself enormously by cutting up all those little pieces of fabric but I'm not sure you couldn't make something with the scraps that are destined for the paper bag - you have the ingenuity! The 'gig' at the NBGW sounds lovely - I'm sure the birds were showing their appreciation. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #31

Oh I can see hours of fun with that ping pong table Jan. Dad was played for his local club and we loved going round there to play occasionally. As for your fabric organising/cutting etc - would you like to come and sort through mine?!!!! You might need to set aside a week or so. It's certainly a great idea and you will feel so smug when you set about making stuff and all your pieces are there ready and waiting. xx Jo

I love ping pong! You don't hear about it much any more. Looks like you will have lots of fun with that. I can't think of anything nicer than playing music with birds whizzing around - awesome! Have a great week, Lindart #29

I am rubbish at ping pong, but used to enjoy it. Brings back a happy memory of playing it with Rich when we were in Jamaica for our wedding/honeymoon. There were some tables right by the sea in our hotel. Great idea to cut out the fabric scraps. Very satisfying. I look forward to seeing you and Julia on Monday. Ali x ps Didn't get time to join in with WOYWW this week.

Hi Jan, that looks very satisfying, sorting through your scraps and I just know you'll make loads of gorgeous goodies with them. I'm thinking of having a go at some rag rugging with fabric scraps and a friend of mine even stitches the really teeny scraps between layers of organza to create pretty shapes. I maybe wouldn't go that far :o) Hope you're having a lovely weekend! Annie C #12
