I SAID......PSSSSSTTTTT....STEAM HEAT....

Yep, I can hear you saying.....she's finally lost it.  Steam heat? What's that got to do with her desk?

The sewing/crafting purists amongst you had better look away now. I warn you, it's not pretty

My ironing board was a disgrace - great big tears in the top of the cover - so yesterday, after a rush of blood to the head, I decided to launch in and make a new one.  First, I rough cut some fusible fleece as a template. Then used that to very roughly (cough) cut out some fabric.  Ironed 'em together, turned over a disgracefully uneven hem, threaded the only bit of elastic I had through..... et voila.......

Just don't look underneath too closely!!! *Snigger*

Ironing will be a lot more fun. WHAT?? Wash your mouth out, LLJ......I despise ironing apart from crafty necessity. At least I can admire the lovely spotty fabric while I'm merrily singeing some shirts..........

Here's the loud fabric from last week - I'm just topstitching the edge of the bag.....

It's fun but floppy......now come on, stop tittering.....I should have put some stiffening (!!) in it. However, it would be great to roll up and stuff in your handbag to take shopping as a Bag for Life. The dotty lining made me happy :-)

And finally ....a bag I made quickly as a present for someone.
Goodness, I love that fabric...I may have to go back and get some more.  Life's hard, eh?

Gotta go, the ironing calls.....bahahahahahahahaha...........

oh my Jan what do you think our minds are like... !! Sniggering along with you today. Love the new ironing board cover, and also the bags - floppy and stiff! Your idea of making a quick bag for a gift would have taken me forever. Helen 3

Clever you to just "quickly" make a bag as a gift...my friend would have to wait a lifetime before they got anything that remotely resembled this beautifully crafted bag! #21

Love that song! I am with Belinda above, I have been making a bag for ever and still have not started.
Love your new ironing board cover - easy to get them to the end of their lives - and mine now has an old towel underneath it! Shame on me.
Have a good week - Neet 11 xx

OMG! You are a woman after my own heart. Having bought multiple new covers over the years, only to find the UK ones don't fit my US board - and I can never remember the cm measurements when faced with a rack of lovely new covers so it's always buy/try/return - I have often thought I could make a cover but not a clue how to proceed. Iron on fleece? perfect. was it from FL UK? I am totally going to do this and soon - MIL is coming in October and I know she actually uses her ironing board for clothes (unlike ME LOL!) and mine has ink, sticky stuff, and rips al over it. Better sort it or face her wrath! :)

Happy WOYWW!

Nothing fits my built-in ironing board either so I just staple some elastic to the underneath of a shop bought one and that holds it :) Your cover looks fabulous, no wrinkles like my one. Your bag is so gorgeous and bright, even if it is a floppy one, I could say something here but it would be censored (he he). Well, show off, quickly making a bag. I could do that too you know, just give me some fabric and a staple gun!!! Seriously though, you are so clever to make those bags and all the things you sew, I'm just jealous cos I can't sew.
Have a great week,

Now I've got that song on repeat in my head! I sure hope I don't have to get out the iron now lol. I will say there is very little chance my ironing board cover will ever wear out. Your's looks very pretty and as long as it works, I think it's good : D. The bags are beautiful! Thanks for noticing the paper on my shaker card, I was very pleased to have worked out if I adhered the paper to the cardstock first, then made the die cut it was a lot easier to line things up lol.

Gorgeous bag and ironing cover.... is there nothing you can not make? I am in awe of your sewing talent. I got all excited and had my sewing machine serviced and then just put it back in the cupboard ;( But every woyww I am inspired to get it out. I will let you know how it goes.

Loving both bags. The colours in the first go so well together. The lovely blue and cream (or is it white?) on the other bag is perfect.

Although your cover is lovely, nothing makes ironing better for me. I hate ironing and try to buy clothes that don't need ironing:)

Hope you have a lovely WOYWW.

Beautiful bags! I have done that pad making for an ironing board before, but 20 years ago! I probably don't iron enough now to wear out one! LOL Thanks for the look. #34

It seems every time I visit your blog I end up yearning for some of your beautiful fabric - this weeks it's that blue and white one - so gorgeous! I really must change my ironing board cover now I know it can be done, simply because the cover that came with it is absolutely ghastly and doesn't co-ordinate with my studio! A great excuse to go fabric shopping now! Hope you have a great week,

Love your bags, Jan ... they are so bright and cheerful. I made a floppy one too and thought, just as you did, that I should have used some stiffening :) Still it does tuck very nicely into my shoulder bag. I think you did a great job with the ironing board cover - it doesn't have to be tailored, it just has to do the job :) I hate ironing too and, until the EM injured his back, I didn't need to think about it too often but now I'm back on ironing duties ... oh woe is me :( Have a lovely WOYWW and a great week. Jan, you do make me laugh, you do the most beautiful needlework when it is something you are creating, but when it comes to necessities like a new ironing board cover, finesse seems to be a little distant. But the finished result looks good, even if your seams are wobbly, and we only have your word for that anyway.
Hope the dotty cover makes that ironing a little less of a chore.

Jan - your comment made me so happy last week! We need a soul sister birthday celebration for sure. And your post today is further proof that somehow our DNA is entangled! For months now I have been wanting to make a new ironing board cover. I don't want to put a lot of time into it. I didn't even know where to start and now, look at you! This is exactly what I need to do!!! You just amaze me. I iron more fabric for sewing than I do actual clothing--which is kinda funny. But I'm making a new cover this week! Hugs dearest! Happy WOYWW! Seriously now if you could see Yoda trying to get hugs off me and tell me to go to bed whilst I am typing this message to you, you would nearly wet yourself laughing. I am persisting as it is you. I love the ironing board cover with it's dots but there is now way it would make me happy ironing, I hate ironing more than housework. Yep that dirty word again. Ok I have made Yoda suffer enough and my chest is getting scratched to death. I do believe you need to go back to that shop and get more of that fabric.

I made a new cover for my old ironing board a couple of years ago. After the legs broke, I bought a new ironing board. The cover is so thin! It's larger than my old ironing board, so I need to add padding or make a new cover for my new one also. It makes you so happy until you gunk it up :)

BJ said...

Oh I love the blue fabric too,and the ironing board cover is excellent. I really ought to make mine as my board is extra large and the bought ones are a bit of a tight fit! BJ#69

No, not even a new cover could get me to iron...even for craft purposes I'm not a fan...but I do think it looks lovely! And yes, that is very pretty fabric..I wouldn't argue against getting some more! Have a great week.

Hello dear friend! I'm also glad to amongst my WOYWW family. That is what we are, you know. I think you and I even look alike! tee hee

I don't know anyone that looks under the ironing board. You did a great job with the fast make of a new cover. I don't have a full size ironing board and I despise ironing but I need to rethink this - especially if I'm EVER going to sew!

Both bags are great, as usual. Just think where all your bags are in the world!

Thanks for the hint on blogger. I do have the right time zone but maybe I'll change it to something else then change it back.....

Today I'm off work so hoping to get around to at least those that have visited me so far.

Happy WOYWW

Actually, I now realise that the cover matches the iron...my dear, it will cost a shilling! I do like the blue moo fabric, really is nice.

Yes, that "blue china" fabric is very lovely. I love the LOUD floppy bag. Great for when you want to make a statement. Good job on covering the ironing board. Truly a decent cover is a must if you are to iron. My mom bought me an iron and mini (annoying) iron boards when I went away to college. I didn't iron stuff before I went to college I don't why she thought I would after, but it was a nice gesture and my roommate appreciated it! I have a full on ironing board now and the same iron and yeah, pretty much only use them when sewing. Although I am learning that stapling up a hem will get you through the day. I know, I'm such a disgrace! Judy #73

Fab bags - and even ironing looks more appealing (not I don't really mean it !!)
I found the trick with the oil cloth was to slide a finger under the fabric to lift it off the machine bed and it couldn't stick as badly - and I had to pull it from past the foot too - so actually ideal if you know a stitching octopus !! Hugs Ali x

Great bags, and great ironingcover! I sincerely dislike ironing, so I do that as little as possible. I prefer crafting over ironing ;). I did a tiny itsy bit of sewing a while back (just some square wipes), and when I read I had to iron the fold flat before sewing, it put me off a bit. (About a week). I love ironed clothes and towels and stuff, just not when I have to do it...

Hiya Jan, your posts always make me laugh! From a fellow non-ironer as well. The only time mine gets used to to iron fusible fibres, rofl.Anything thats a bit creased gets folded and put at the bottom of the pile waiting for me to put it away- its nicely flat by then. Do love that dotty fabric though. Have a great week, Big Hugs. Shaz xxXxx

ah yes recovering the ironing board. I am trying to remember if I even own one any more! Last recovering I did I took and old sheet and safety pins and pinned it together! Love the bright bag and I definitely would run right out and buy some more of that blue fabric...hurry don't let them sell it out it is awesome! Love the bags you make. Are they from cotton? I know what you mean about a stiffer one but I never know the best way to get it stiff so that it stays stiff rather than floppy only after a few tugs on the handle!! (sorry couldn't resist...but I really do get confused about what to line things with!)

I had to do the very same task myself only a month or so ago...mine is a peachey orange kinda colour. Your bags are super. And that lining on the bag...I have a bra and pants that look very similar. Seriously! Haven't worn them yet as I only picked them up the other day and then fell ill so been in pjs most of the latter part of the week. They will surely brighten my bedroom up in the mornings!
What time do I bring my ironing round for you?
