WOYWW 228

MEET ME ON THE CORNER WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE COMING ON
AND I'LL BE THERE, I PROMISE I'LL BE THERE..
(Lindisfarne)

First things first...The Bunting Winners!  Names were drawn randomly by Mr LLJ....
Traditional: Vonny and Eliza (I made a second string!)
Scandinavian: Maisie Moonshine
Please will you email me your snail mail addresses ladies - I'll get the bunting off to you forthwith :-)

Rightio Ho, the desk.....
I've laid out a load of fat quarters and scraps from my stash in order to put them into colour groups. I'm going to make some patchwork squares to send to Wipso. They will be sent on to be made up into quilts to be sold for charity. See Wipso's blog for more info. I'll start on another quilt for LillyBo as well as I haven't made one for a while.

Fat quarters old and new!

Softer tones...more contrast needed, I think.

A huge box of cards turned up from Lisa (Craft Garden). Thank you so much, Lisa - they will be put to good use and are much appreciated xxxx

I haven't actually done that much crafting this week. Mr LLJ took a few days off and so, as well as doing some boring house stuff, we took the opportunity to go out. We took our younger son G3 to Winchester...

The Grape Vine tunnel in Queen Eleanor's Garden outside the Great Hall...

And inside where there is King Arthur's Round Table hanging on the wall (a much later pretend one unfortunately!) and an art installation that read Look The Other Way, because you had to read it from right to left. I rather liked it!

Then we met our eldest son, The Big O, in Bath...

Well, I couldn't not stop at this lovely window, could I??

Or this...those meringues were about 9" across...made my teeth ache just looking at them (which IS all we did!)

Here's a variation on a doll's house..an elven tree house. It stood about 5 feet tall and was a masterpiece of little details. Isn't it beautiful?

This also caught our attention! We particularly liked the jaunty rope accessory!  It must have been there for some time as there was a slew of parking tickets on the front windscreen!!

The Gates of Mordor!! Lol....more like a lock gate on the Bath section of the Kennet and Avon canal. There was a whole ecosystem growing quite happily in the musky, moist atmosphere...

Aha, I thought, as we walked up the street...THAT shop looks interesting....

It was!  Some trendy clothes emporium, whose name completely passed me by as I was too interested in the wonderful old machines!

I'd never heard of this manufacturer before..but I won't forget it now, that's for sure!!!

I do so adore wacky objects ;-)   See you next week!!

Oh Jan, where to begin!
I think I'm in love with this elven house. So much detail! And those meringues made my mouth water! And last but not least, your desk is a heaven of colors! So many pretty prints on those fat quarters!

Hugs and kisses from Egypt. x

Oh the elven house is just fantastic. I love it! I also enjoyed looking in that window at all the sewing machines when we were last in Bath. Much more interesting than what they are actually selling!

What a gorgeous house, perfect for the elves. Your bunting is fantastic. Our local radio station (Hereford and Worcester) is working on a special project for Children in Need, which is to produce 3 miles of bunting to break the Guiness World Record. Leominster has already promised to produce 1 mile, and I think Malvern has agreed to match that. They have to conform to exacting measurements. I bet you have done well over that all by yourself. That sewing machine shop looks fascinating too. xx Maggie #4

Soul sister, you have given us such a treat this week! As if those luscious fat quarters weren't enough eye candy, you know I'm all caught up in that tree dollhouse!! Thank you so much for posting it. You and the mister are looking fab in the vine tunnel too--that photo should be scrapbooked and framed. You are gorgeous. I also adore that window of sewing machines--what in the world! I've never heard of that manufacturer either. That sewing machine looks vintage too. Such a wonderful post. Hugs to you! Thanks so much for the mention Jan and for the offer of the quilt squares....you're a gem.

You are a true sight for sore eyes. I loved seeing the arbor tunnel and the inside of the hall. It's fun to see places like that. I enjoyed trying to read the saying, too.

Those fat quarters are spectacular. Wish I had even a bit of your stash, Oh wait, I don't need it, because I don't make REAL quilts. Old clothes work best for my activities.

Don't let Voodoo Vixen (Annette) see that doll tree house, or she'll be making one from Pringles cans and broth tins (grin). It's adorable, though.

I had to laugh at the sewing machines. They were all so cleverly put on display. And the one you singled out made me think you were cursing at me (JUST JOKING).

Happy WOYWW from #7.

What a fantastic post, Jan. Your days out sound wonderful and all those amazing things you saw. Love the Elven House, I would love that and have a DD who would too!! The ribbons I could not have walked by. When we go to Austria I always take extra pennies for a special ribbon shop in Innsbruck!!
I'm glad you managed some family time, you deserve it.

I enjoyed every moment of this post, Jan... the shops you found look amazing, how wonderful - that Elven house is a complete triumph, but all of the others too... I wouldn't have let the meringues go untasted...
Thanks for the Lindisfarne lyrics, too I love them. all together now, the Fog on the Tyne's all mine.... lol!! Have a lovely week. Hope your mate comes home soon! Helen, 13

Congratulations to the bunting winners! Lucky ladies! What a fabulous day out! Now that is the kind of day I love - so many wonderful things to see! I loved that little house with all the towers! The trendy clothes shop with the sewing machine looked like 'All Saints'. They started out in Spitalfields E. London, but they're everywhere now! My daughter's friend works in one in the holidays. Just shows what you can achieve if you're young and enterprising! Love all your gorgeous material. I so admire you and Wipso for all you do with your quilt making! Happy WOYWW! Julie Ann xx #45

What a beautiful, colourful desk, and congrats to the bunting winners. Love your days out with family, Andrew's sister went to art college in Winchester, we used to visit her for the odd weekend, wonderful city, haven't been in years. The tree house is stunning, who wouldn't want to live in one? Love the ribbon and the sewing machines (it's foo koo soo key if you really want to know!!!). One of my Japanese colleagues' last name is Ifuku... which sounds really bad if you don't know how to pronounce it!

It is always nice to spend some family time doing nothing that is really planned. Just what I am hoping to do with my Mr this week, having had Kim and Hubby here for a few days.
I have seen that shop in Bath before but couldna tell you how to get there! Hubby pulled me away from it when I saw it for fear of me trying to add to my collection! Haa Haa!

I'm only trying to guess how to pronounce the name on that last sewing machine but I can assure you I have myself giggling up a storm over it. Lots of pretty fabric lain out on your table today. Your room seems extra bright and airy today for some reason. Thanks for sharing the photos taken from your travels. So fun to visit places vicariously.

Hello LLJ,

I'm sneaking in a few visits today. I must confess, after seeing the last photo of the sewing machine I totally forgot most of what was above it! I kept pronouncing the name in different ways. My fun for the day, I'm afraid!

Congratulations to the winners of your lovely bunting! Oh, and the fabric quarters are really pretty. One that caught my eye is the turquoise, orange and yellow fabric. Love it. As for the ribbon store - oh my. Did you go crazy overboard on buying ribbon?

Thank you for visiting me already. I also owe you an email, which I'll get off soon.

Happy WOYWW
Hugs, Kay (43)

If there were prizes for the most colorful and entertaining WOYWW post, you would win it hands down, LLJ!! First of all, I ache with jealousy at the pleasure you get to have fondling, arranging, and working with all those bright and happy fabrics! I wouldn't think you could ever be angry or depressed after walking into your sewing room!

Next, what a fun and informative photo diary you shared with us - thank you so much!! You and Mr. LLJ look so young and life-loving!! I'm glad you all had a fun day! As I like to say here in America, fukusuke, and have a wonderful week! Thanks for coming to visit me!! Hugs, Darnell #57

Jan, thanks for visiting me, I do try to take care and not overdo things, but being married toa human doing make it hard. Not sure I could manage to knit the hats ina larger size, I get bored with knitting quickly, which is why the little hats are so good.
You seem to have had a smashing time in Winchester and that area, lots of lovely pics.
