MATHS IS A WONDERFUL THING,
MATHS IS A REALLY COOL THING.
SO GET OFF YOUR ACT, LET'S DO SOME MATHS.....
(Jack Black - School of Rock)
I love maths..numbers, patterns..the whole shebang..it floats my boat. So here, for your delectation and amusement is today's maths calculation.
Pick an even number.....
Multiply by..oh, let's see...a thousand!
Add a little ricrac here....
Double the embellishments...
Tessellate some Isosceles triangles......
And what does this equal??
Some bunting for a baby girl......grin!! I couldn't manage to fit in equivalent fractions and chunking (that's a new form of long division)...next week's challenge maybe!
It was my 32nd (with 20 years' experience) birthday last week. I was a very lucky girl, receiving some fab prezzies..but I had to show you this....
It's a glass bowl made by a local artist and sold in a local gallery. It is like an up-splash of sea water frozen in time. Bought for me by my wonderful menfolk....my favourite colours in my favourite medium..I can't stop looking at it....
It is astonishing when the sun shines through..like stained glass windows in a cathedral. I adore it. I am a VERY lucky gal indeed....
Have a great week :-)

Love the bunting but you lost me when I got tangled on those tessalations!
Hippy Belated Birthday and you really don't look anything like 30/22, more like 22/ 29. Just be glad you aren't 50/19 like me!
Lots of love Jo x
It's a voice from the past....wishing you a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Yee haw, be sure to celebrate lots!! The bowl is to die for...absolutely gorgeous. It blows my mind how they can do that. There is a lot of glass work in the Seattle-Tacoma and for years you had to fly through Seattle to get out of Alaska so I've spent many one and two night stays there...it really is amazing work. My luck, I would try it, and like it, and have to buy all THAT stuff which I'm sure would send me to the poor house!
So glad you received the fabric...I knew you could put it to good use, and frankly I was kind of hoping you would be the only person in Britain with it!
I actually love the bunting, but not so much the math. What a great baby gift.
I have to work 4 nights this week and so I must off to bed, but I did want to say hi, and acknowledge your sweet email and comment. Although I don't really want to say it, part of me is looking forward to the slightly slower pace of winter! Yikes! Have a great week.
Love Sara
Happy Birthday to you! That bowl is just the most beautiful thing! I don't think I would be able to stop looking at it if were mine either! What a wonderfully creative artist - brilliant idea! I love, love, love your bunting! My husband would have loved your post, as he just took retirement from teaching Maths! Happy WOYWW! Julie Ann xx #41
Happy belated birthday Jan. I could see the SINES that you were ANGLING towards a woonderful sewing project in a FRACTION of the time of others. Your TRIANGULATIONS really SUM up the EXPLICIT FUNCTION of such pretty decorations......yep I'm another maths mad head :-)
Have a great week and I'm looking forward to our Monday meet up.
Hugs,

Lucky shmucky. You deserve it, and your gorgeous G summed up his reason for buying it for you so eloquently that it's difficult to consider that anyone else should own it! It is really a stunner. As is the bunting, Zara's family will be chuffed. Oh the maths thing - yeah, sure, that makes you normal.
Hi Jan. GORGEOUSNESS to the power of 10! I'll have to have a lie down now - me and maths are not best friends! Happy belated birthday and enjoy looking at your beautiful bowl - if you start to dribble it's probably time to move away and do something else - just for a little while! Thanks for your visit and your kind comments - Mr M is at work so I've got no one to be naughty with - unless I go stash shopping.... MMx #65

Many happy returns Jan!! What a fab bowl - fancy your menfolk chosing something so perfect for you - you are one very lucky gal! Love the bunting - that is sooo pretty. I chuckled at the maths - unlike my sis, I have no mathematical inclinations!! x Jo
What a sweet banner - but oh my! That bowl, in that light, is seriously gorgeous. One day I may actually make bunting :)
Happy WOYWW!

ROFL Jan! As far as I'm concerned you can cut out the maths (I got 6% in a maths exam once - probably for spelling my name correctly at the top of the page!) but the end result is just gorgeous. I am intending to make some bunting for my new room as I absolutely love bunting.
Your glass bowl is absolutely stunning. Off to pin it on my "glass" page on Pinterest. I absolutely adore things like this and if I could, I'd fill the house with them... the shadow it casts is as good as the object itself. Beautiful pictures of it, too. How thrilled you must be! (Don't break the 10th Commandment, Shoshi...)
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog - yes, my new room is gorgeous and I can't wait to get in and start work in there! It will take some time to install all my equipment and supplies but I'll get there in the end. And thanks for your good wishes for my health - I was amazed how quickly the antibiotics started working, and I feel fine in that area now!
Happy WOYWW,

Jan, Happy Birthday for last week and you clearly were blessed with that lovely bowl, it is so special, they must love you very much.
I like the Maths lesson, it just shows that we use maths everyday and don't realise it. The bunting is so beautiful, will make someone very happy.
Bless you

have fab week Andrea#42
Hi Jan, hope your birthday was wonderful and how gorgeous is that bowl! Absolutely stunning.I wouldn't be able to stop looking at it either. Maths scares the living daylights out of me- I blame my maths teacher. We had one of those who treated you as stupid if you didn't 'get it' the first time, with a tendency to throw blackboard rubbers at pupils! I'm ok with basic maths- its when it gets complicated I feel faint, lol. Have a great week, Hugs Shaz #48 xx
Super sweet bunting, but that bowl--it's hypnotizingly gorgeous, Jan!
A very happy birthday to you, and
a happy WOYWW to you, as well!

Maths, I'm not sure I understand the concept.... my son-in-law has just passed his PHd in Maths I often ask him things and get told "that's not maths it's arithmetic what do I know? hehe!
Have a great week
janet
Happy Birthday ....I love the way the light works with the bowl....btw I loved maths at school until I had a bad teacher at 17.xx
Oh that's a stunning birthday gift, so beautiful in the sunshine! Happy belated birthday too! Love the bunting! And yes, fixing cars is a great skill to have, he services our daily drivers too, they don't go to the garage once they're out of warranty!

Bright blessing to you and yours.
What a fabulous present, it is gorgeous! I'd sit and stare at it too.... anything to avoid the maths, lol!! Have a great week. Helen 6
Stunning bowl and spectacular with the sun shining through it ! Ali #34
Don't talk to me about chunking! Half the ways they teach maths now are Greek to me! Your glass is absolutely stunning. A lucky gal indeed xx
Happy Belated Birthday for last week! I don't do math... it makes my brain hurt and my worst school days were when I had to do fractions! Love how your math turned those items into such cute bunting though! LOL
What an absolutely wonderful bowl you got... the shadows it forms are great. Happy WOYWW Annette #5
Hi Jan, I can't join in this week but I'm taken the opportunity to visit your desk while I can. I love the embellished bunting - so cute - and isn't the baby's name fab - so short :) I get the whole maths thing, and didn't shame myself completely in it, but it's words and literature that rocks my boat, which is why I love the alliteration in your phrase 'tessellate some isosceles triangles'. The bowl is absolutely stunning - a brilliant birthday gift. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth xx
That bowl is stunning - what a beautiful gift. Lovely mathematical bunting - but - CHUNKING????? I think I've heard it all now!
Have a great week.

Tessle…who…what??? I SUCK at Math. I am a Mathmatical moron. I still use my fingers to add 9+4!! Well Happy Belated Birthday. I'd have baked you a cake had i known. TY for visiting my coffee table this week. It's always a pleasure. I don't blame you wanting to stare at your beautiful blue bowl. It is just gorgeous!!! I really love your bunting project as well. I'm equally impressed with your Mathmatical presentation!!! Now I need to go hang my head in shame…. Happy Hump day!!! (((HUGS)))

You definitely are one lucky girl and I hope you had a great birthday. Your birthday gift is stunning and I would be losing hours sitting admiring it too. Loved your fun post and cute bunting.......if you lived closer I might of persuaded you to come and tutor our FS in year 9 maths as he is struggling a little. Happy WOYWW! Danie #14
What an absolutely wonderful blue glass bowl, hope your birthday was fabulous.
regards diane
What a spectacular vase, you sure could look at it for hours. Happy birthday to you, I will be the same number as you in two weeks and I don't use the (5) number either (he he).
As for maths, yuk, yuk, yuk. I'm married to the head of maths at a private school and I'm sooo over maths. I prefer the hit and miss approach to things and not the calculated stuffy way of my hubby :) You way of doing maths is fun, I like that.
Have a great week and enjoy that gorgeous bowl (I'm soo green right now).

Hi LLJ - fabulous glass piece just gorjuss.... lucky girl you are - the bunting is really pretty too - have a great week Mxx WOYWW #97
Jan, you are the queen of bunting! This one is soooo adorable, I absolutely love it! Hey are you on Pinterest? I started my Pinterest boards last year, but I felt like the whole thing was a waste of time, and didn't go back to it. Then recently, I started finding all these crafters on Pinterest, and their beautiful photos and creations inspired me, so I got back on it! Anyhoo--just wondering if you're on there, because I'd want to follow your boards too. I love your Math diddy...I am fascinated with shows about the universe, and math is at the basis of everything! Also, I'm a bit behind on things, but I was thinking of you yesterday because I got out my Mollie Makes and I'm still making that little pattern that came with the magazine...I'm excited to see how it turns out. Have a good week and hugs! Sandy Leigh #11
I love your banner, only I must be rubbish at maths I added it up to be a card! Love the bright colours! Thanks for my snoop! Have a great crafty week! Happy WOYWW!?!
((Lyn)) #38
I'm playing catch up after having been offline for nearly three days due to internet woes associated with our recent rain. I'm a big math fan. I've had lots of it at Uni. Of course, I never studied bunting!! Glad you showed me the way. Thanks, too, for stopping by earlier in the week.
Happy really belated WOYWW from #2.
Sorry to be so late to the party - been galloping around Banbury on a cock horse, cuttin and stickin, eating cake and drinking wine but thought I would check in and see whatvI've been missing - your bunting looks so pretty and I love that gorgeous glass bowl. Happy Sunday after WOYWW! Annie C #114
Happy belated Birthday! Love that glass bowl the men folk bought you...awesome! Love the bunting too...I need to make the Granddaughters something like that with their favorite characters on it.
