WHERE IS MY WORKDESK WEDNESDAY?? 211

TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN,
MAKE A WORLD THAT WE CAN LIVE IN..
                                             (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young)

Well, that was another full week that shot by at Warp Factor 8!
My work desk looks like this...
I haven't touched it for a few days...no fabric has been harmed in the cause of crafting here...

But here, it has!
It's the Year 6 (10-11 year olds) school play next week and my machine has been over in the classroom doing sterling duty.

Whipping up a pink satin apron for Mama Bear! There were four sewing machines on the table..we let the kids have a day on them, making what they liked. Purses, ipod covers etc etc...they designed them first then made them from start to finish. The boys really enjoyed having a go..many had never touched a machine before..same for the girls too.

One girl brought her machine in and was excellent at teaching her peers in how to use it.

Here's one of the lads making a furry iPod cover as a prezzy for his sister. He had really good control!

Sue, the teacher (and my mate!) and I were making the trickier costumes. In this pic, Sue is making the Three Bears' heads complete with sticky up fluffy ears! The fabric was ever so soft and furry!!

Sue will be wearing this 'Creation'!  Oh boy, did I have fun altering this dress for her. She has a rather fetching blue wig to go with it. I'm borrowing this for the disco at the end of term.... ;-)

Remember the knitted 'bikini' last week? Well, this is what that turned into...
It's sooooo cute! I love the frilly border, which looks tricky but was very easy to do.  I'll definitely do this pattern again.

And another ATC from Kay (505 Whimsy Girl) arrived this week. Thanks, it's fab..another wonderful and cherished item to add to the collection :)  Kay also sent me a card made from one of her pictures.....

Mr Goat...he cracks me up! Fab photo, Kay!!

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..........................................

Some great makes there. I am amazed that some danger "police: didn't rush in and insist that children could not use machines. Great to see what they really can achieve when given the chance. xx Maggie

What a great post Jan....that dress is fabulous...love all the colors! My son took 4 years of home ec - all 6' 2" of him; my daughter thinks cereal might actually be a food group! What a good thing to do - work with kids...so much patience is required - which you obviously must have. My hat's off to you. I love the knitted sweater...it's adorable. I have mastered the knit stitch and make a mean wash cloth, but that's about it. What a talented lady!! Have a great week!

Super fun post... love the song from the 1969 Deja Vu album, one of my faves that I've had to steal back over and over from my DDs until they no longer wanted vinyl. Even I have a cd of it now.
So good the children are learning to use the sewing machines... I bet most of their Mum's can't.
Love the dress... you'll have to apply for a job creating for Lady GaGa!!

Hi Jan! I think it is great that you had a sew-in at school and it's brilliant that the kids are doing something a bit different with their time - especially now the agony of SATS is out of the way. That dress is soooo stylish darling! And the bikini turned out beautifully! Have a great week MMx #70

I think it's fabulous that the children are learning to use the sewing machine - but 10 year olds and sewing machine needles are not a combination I'd want to be involved with - you're very brave!!! I love that little jacket you knitted - it's absolutely gorgeous.
Hope you have a fun-filled and creative week!

Jan, you are making magic! Oh my goodness...as a theatre person, I am dying to see pics from this cute little play when they do it! How fun to help with the costumes! And I am over the moon to see a purple sewing machine! I'm going to snag that picture--how adorable! (don't tell Violet though, she'll get jealous) Well, Lauren and I are still having a blast going through our MollieMakes and getting inspired. We're going to make a couple of the birdie keychains, and one of my friends begged me to share that pattern with her. I think I'm going to have to laminate the cover of the magazine before we wear it out! So, does it take long to sew the crochet squares together? I only have six more squares to knit before I start sewing my knit quilt together (I guess I'm calling it a "knit quilt") and I am starting to dread the sewing together of it...so thank goodness Lauren is on summer break from college and can help me! My garden is looking good too, and I am seriously going to try and knit myself a summer vest! (or "tank top" as we say). I know, I'm crazy! Sew crazy! I need my own crafty show called "Sew Crazy." Hugs to you sweetie! Happy WOYWW! Thanks for visiting me too! Sandy Leigh #22

Hi LLJ,

Wow - lovin' the dress. Oh, but it's too small for my curvey body! It looks like all the students had a great time sewing.

So glad you like Mr. Goat. I just love his eyes.

I'm not participating this week but wanted to pop in to visit.

It's lovely that the stamps went into the WOYWW crop for the refuge appeal! I knew you probably wouldn't use them but you won them so it's good they went to such a good cause.

Well, first, your bikini shrug is darling! Kay's card is hysterical! Your poor little sewing center does look abandoned, but boy, oh, boy, what an amazing and satisfying week you've had with the kiddies! TFS!! They will never forget the experience, LLJ, and I'm sure they think you are one cool chickie, same as we all do!! (Or whatever endearing term the young peeps use nowadays!)

Have a wonderful week! Mwah! Darnell #20

The cardigan is very cute - pretty colours too. Children seem to have a great fascination with the sewing machine - I had some 11 - 13 year old boys making PE bags this year - they were really pleased with themselves!

How brilliant to see the children using the sewing machines, Jan. I learnt to use one at Primary school many moons ago but they don't have time for such things these days, maths and english is far more important....not!!! Well not to the exclusion of creative things anyway!!
Love that costume, your play sounds a riot. Good Luck with it all.
Your little cardy is soooo sweet too, is it for a special littley.
Hope you are having a good week.
