BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE...
I adore being part of the Phoenix Brass Band - it's a great bunch of people who make learning music affordable and who work hard at raising cash for good causes. But we need money to run the band as well - it's amazing how much music costs to buy/hire, instruments need repairing/replacing etc etc. So last Saturday found us busking on Marlborough High Street!!
We were so lucky with the weather! It was a beautiful, sunny day. This brought the crowds out and made life more comfortable for the players. We raised over £400 for the band, which wasn't bad going.  You play a lot of carols between 10am and 3pm - they'll be repeated even more by the 22nd Dec, which is our last engagement! Only 7 more events to undertake :)
The following evening found us in my local village hall, playing as part of a Christmas Celebration evening. We've got our dress jackets on as it's a more formal evening.  Here's a piccy of me and G3 at the back - look at that concentration!

Right, in between all the playing, I've still been sewing, so here's my desk.
Hello, Big Boy - I still love you :) I may have mentioned last week that I got a new machine *grin*. I've been making some more bunting, the reason for which will become apparent later.
This is my big box of bunting bits...
I found this union jack bunting in Salisbury. It was double sided with a cheap tape running through the top. So I've unpicked it and the 15 flags are now 30 single sided, which I will back in white and put onto new tape for the UK's celebrations next year of the Queen's 60th Jubilee and the Olympics.  I'm very pleased with the way the flags are turning out - it also appeals to the miser in me :D

OK - Competition time...The Results....
So many of you joined in with the spirit of 'What A Festive Fabric Frolic' that I decided to put in a few more prizes, so if the following would care to email me their addresses via the link on this blog, something Festive is heading your way!
Jacqueline (Jacqueline's Crafty Blog)
Crafty Womble
Angie (Shozzy)
Elizabeth (Silver Scrapper)
Butler's Abroad
Lisa (Craft Garden)

April

Sylvia (Little Treasures)
You'll be getting either the Nordic bunting featured last week or this Bright Bunting!  Thank you to everyone who entered though - the names were pulled out at random by G3 - my lovely Ginger Gentle Giant.
Hope you have a wonderful week xxxx

Great photos of the band! Shouldn't you still be panicking about Christmas rather than thinking of next Summer and making that wonderful bunting though? Does that mean you have spare time to pitch in and help me? Shame, I thought not :( Di xx

Hi Jan, great photos of the band and I think £400 is an awesome amount to raise - well done to you all. You are planning well ahead ... bunting for next year's celebrations - I can just about manage to think about Christmas at this time, let alone next year.

Many thanks for drawing me out of the hat - I'm thrilled and looking forward to whichever prize I've won ... a Lunch Lady Jan original to 'deck the halls with' - brilliant. Congratulations to all the other winners too.

I'm a cyber and real life friend so I can say that the band is wonderful..(£400 is a lot - well done!) and I can safely say that I don't recall any trace of the miser in you; shrewd, oh yes!!
How nice to see you and the G3 so deep in concentration!

I used to play in a brass band and absolutely loved it - I wasn't very good and am pretty sure the bandmaster just felt sorry for me as my keenness was far superior than my playing :)

Love your bunting, it's fabulous!

Ohh I envy you being able to play something musical. I love to hear band music when I'm out shopping. I can't even sing in tune but do so love music.
I can't believe i'm one of your winners, you've made my Wednesday and I shall definitely wear your bunting with pride. An e-mail is on it's way. Thanks so much to G3, I love the letters that Julias made him by the way.
They'll be no mistaking your house with all that uion jack bunting next year. You are so clever to recycle it.

LLJ, Thank you sooo much for your lovely comment on my blog. So glad you like my butterfly mirrors! I put the glass bead gel medium on this morning and impatiently waiting for them to dry (that's the trouble with mixed media - the drying times take ages when you've anxious to get on with the next stage!!)

Still no date on my uncle's funeral, but hopefully, weather permitting for travel, we'll be there - it will probably be next week sometime.

Wow your full of talents, I love the sound of brass bands, we have a local one here and everytime they do something in town I love to watch, I'm afraid I'm tone deaf and can't sing a note mind play one lol. I so love your bunting, I'm a real beginner when it comes to sewing, it doesn't stop me from buying all these wonderful books on backs and sewing hanging thingys!!! I'm way to scared to actually try and make up a bag, it takes me half hour and the instructions to thread it each time lol (ok just about not needing the instructions now). I've become a follower :-), I thought I already had been when you first started this year but I found out I wasn't doh. Thank you for becoming a follower and a big thank you for the boost of confidence saying you really really liked my card. Did Mrs Dunnit tell you I managed to send her the wreathes? It's great to be back again in the world of blog lol. Kezzy x

Great post! I know what you mean about the cost of instruments. Our son plays French Horn. He is at the point where he is ready to move up to a professional grade horn. Going to cost us about $7,000! I would tell him to get a job, but he just turned 15, lol! Love the fact that you and your son both play. What a great thing to be able to share.

Your parcel was a huge surprise and really cheered me up!! Thanks so much.

Love the brass band pics, they were such a part of my youth, attending all the coal miners galas in the North East when I was growing up. I'd love to hear you play, especially carols. Hopefully I'll have time for WOYWW this week!
