WOYWW 121

AT FIRST I WAS AFRAID, I WAS PETRIFIED......

Those disco divas amongst you will recognise that famous opening line!  I HAVE survived the departure of the Big O - thank you for all the support and lovely comments left last week, it really helped!  It is very quiet without him, but on the positive side, milk, bread and cereals are lasting an awful lot longer!!  *grin*

Thanks also for the suggestions as to what to make with the blue teapot fabric.  I decided to make a tote bag.......

Pieces cut out, ready to go.....

an apron...likewise...

And also some pieces to make a doorstop - but I forgot to take a picture of those!!  I'll post the finished result next week instead :D There's still enough material left for a pegbag, or a table runner - I do cut the fabric very carefully to get maximum usage out of a square metre or two.  I hate wastage!

In the best Blue Peter tradition, here's one I made earlier!!  This is the apron that was in pieces on last week's blog.  I think I should market it as a LBD (or Little Black Dress) Apron - if you need a pinny but don't want to wear your everyday scuzzy one (oops, TMI, there, methinks!)

It was suggested that it should be called a Hostess Apron - but that sounds like a whole new area of fabric goods!!!  And one which I'm not prepared to explore, quite frankly....furry handcuffs anyone..?  Anyway, I like the ra-ra type frill, it's my homage to the 80's *snigger*

I've got a parsley problem (bet you didn't think you'd be reading that..!).  You see, I was told that parsley is a so and so to germinate, so I sowed lots of seeds and they all came up.  I have an inability to throw seedlings away, just can't do it, so planted them all.  I now have a parsley hedge which threatens to overtake everything in my veggy beds - does anyone want any?? LOL!  A neighbour, whose dad was head gardener for a private estate, told me that prolific parsley was the sign of a woman's garden - I'd never heard that old tale before.  But, it seems to be true :)

And finally..any guesses as to why I've got a pile of yellow split peas on my work table??  Lots of Chana Dhal may be? All will be revealed next week!!

I've got 7 days to think up a good song for the title of the next post - 'Let there be Peas on Earth' maybe? Or even 'Give Peas a Chance' ??

Whatever you get up to this week, may it be joyous! xx

That is some parsley patch.... never liked it myself, but it looks pretty! Gorgeous apron again. I don't have one, scuzzy or not... (it would be, it would be!)

Wow never seen so much parsley before in one place! You should open a parsley shop - or find lots of recipes before you get fed up with it all...LOL!!! Go in peas my friend...and enjoy WOYWW!

The peas are for...lunch. And the tarts apron is great. I only like flat leaf parsley although the clumps are deeply impressive - soup? Does it have any body, parsley? Know of anywhere I can get covers for my cleaning bottles?

Still in love with that fabric and can't wait to see it made up. Had to laugh at the reference of their now being cereal left in the cupboard but its very true!! Your '80's pinny is fab and I am gobsmacked at your parsley!! Good grief woman, what did you do to make it take over like some form of intrepids?? Oooh are you going to make bean bags? I can make bean bags... I know I can!!

Lol Jan, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much Parsley growing on one place before.
I predict lots of fish in Parsley sauce on the menu from now one! And by the look of all those split peas I recon Savaloys and Pease Pudding…..yum!

You certainly are making the most out of your material and the apron from last week is looking great.
I can remember wearing Rah-Rah skirts….turns my stomach to think of it now Lol!

Happy Sewing!

Talk about a big tease!! The parsley looks fantastic, I love herbs and have various pots of them spotted around my now established garden! I have a 3 year old currently eating me out of house and home (3 dairylea triangles, a packet of skips and 4 angel slices (and that is just in the last half an hour.......don't think I'll be able to afford a teenager).
Looking forward to seeing all the productivity next week :)

LOL - too funny! And that's definitely the parsley equivalent of a mountain! The split peas - must be a filler for something, a toy or a door stop or similar.

And having just read your comment on Doone's blog, I'm going to make much more of an effort to ring you when I say I will....

I would go with "I Want to Break Pea" buts thats just me - love that parsley hedge, it will keep you going for ages! Love the sewing too - I am trying my hand at making an owl this week - should maybe have picked an easier project first me thinks!

You crack me up every time!! Glad I stopped here first, I needed the laugh!
I think that parsley hedge is one for the world record book, Lordy!! I didn't know it could go like that! It is pretty though.
Love the aprons! You could always add a ruffle at the bottom if it's to "racey".
Looking forward to the pea project next week. Peas, peas me, won't you? ;)
Hugs!

Oooh! that is a huge parsley patch. I love parsley sauce with fish so my parsley never stays long in our garden as I pick it too often. I'd do well with your's.
Love all your fabric stuff !
Hope DS is settling into uni well and glad you seem to be managing without him.

I got a late start today because I fell asleep before I could link up with Julia. Your sewing is always fun to see, and I like the "non-hostess" apron from last week (or this week, if you are as late as I was).

Thanks for the remark about sci fi. Yep, I know ALL those shows, even though I only get to see the British ones a year later.

I could NOT believe all that parsley. I can't seem to grow it. Your is incredible.

A lot of windy after effects I can see LOL

love the aprons

enjoy your week x

Angie said...

I have never see parsley like that ...infact for me it grows a little then keels over and dies. I know fresh is best and dried is ok but on the few occaisions that I've had some left overs , I've finely chopped it and frozen it in a bag ... no water ...then tossed frozen pinches into what ever dish I'm cooking when there is no fresh around. I remember my milk and cereal lasting ages once DS left home.

lol you are so funny, gorgeous apron. too nice for baking in, maybe just for answering the door in...or for wearing when 'At Home' come round to take photos?

Loving the hedge hahahaha

Lovely pinny. Every girl should have a best one. My son thinks that Buzz Lightyear says "I come in Peas" which causes much hilarity in our house. I know it's not a song but hey! That parsley hedge - wow awesome. My Huffle wonders if you can get oil from Parsley - he's not a cook by the way!

Belinda Basson said...

That's not a hedge, its a forest! Parsley tea is good for all sorts of things. I use it for kidney pain, detoxing and it is also good for lowering high blood pressure. All things in moderation though. Not for pregnant women, it is known to cause a miscarriage. Nice bag and pinny...

Your post made me laugh :)

Your little apron is adorable, and I love the teapot fabric.

And I think you'll need to make a lot of parsley sauce ... hope it freezes well..??

Hi Jan, I think I've just seen that fabric pattern, or something very similar in the tearoom the DH and I were in this afternoon - very shabby chic. Parsley is notoriously hard to germinate so you have done incredibly well - I suggest you freeze some of it ... pop some in poly bags and into the freezer, when frozen crush it, still in the bags, and you have a, endless by the looks of it, supply of parsley ready to be used in soups, stews and sauces. Thanks for your comment on my WOYWW blog this week and in response to your request I've posted the beaded pins in close-up for you - just check out my most recent post. Have a great week. That is some good parsley you have got going on. I also need an apron and you have given me the inspiration to make one of my own.

OMG you have a triffid in your garden pretending to be parlsey. Love the apron you will need to be suitably attired when you attack the triffid.

MaggieC (Silvercrafter) said...

That parsley is great. I would cut it all back and cop it roughly, stick it in a freezer bag and stuff the lot in the freezer. Once it has frozen, you can crush it more, and then use just what you need each time. Mine has all died this year. I hope to get some more going next year, sewing it on Good Friday, I think. Love your aprons. You do seem to have a talent for finding the right material.

You are so creative with your fabric, bags, pinnies and peg bags, amazing.
Wow, that's one parsleyy hedge. You won't be stuck for Parsley sauce with that lot.
Are the peas for some kind of beanbag stuffing!!!!

Excellent post and holy crow that's a lot of parsley!! Can you sell it? Can't you find a local store or a hundred restaurants that need it? It's so fun to see creations made from a piece of fabric. I used to love to sew but haven't done so much lately (20 years). Are you making bean bags or something like that? Can't wait to find out! Thanks for the visit and do have a great week!

I just LOVE that apron and I think a Hostess Apron could really catch on! As for the title, how about "Lentil there be love", "Live and lentil die" or "Pulse release me, let me go", "Dhal my number" or maybe just "candle in the WIND"!!!!
