WOYWW 364 - The 7th Anniversary

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE, LOVE,
LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED.....
(c. Lennon and McCartney)

Welcome to all you lovely deskers who, week in and week out, turn up to share friendship, ideas and lunacy!! What started out as a mad idea by our beloved Queen Julia has stood the test of time - many higher profile blogs have come and gone, but WOYWW carries on  and it's all down to you :-)  The support that comes over the Interwebs is simply amazing, my life has been enriched by being part of this group and meeting deskers in real life has been wonderful too. Long may it continue, say I.

So, Happy 7th to you all!  If you are swapping Anniversary ATCS, please remember to put an asterisk after your name in the linky. You will send your ATC to the next person with a star by their name - some people may choose not to join in, in which case, leapfrog over them to the next starred name - I will try and help on the day as much as I can if confusion reigns :-D

Today's desk - what it's all about, after all.......
I've been using up stash to make a little something for a giveaway - too much is going on this week with the ATCs, so I'll offer it next week. The squares are leftovers from a charm pack from which I've made a couple of small quilts in the past year.

I rather like the grey and sandy colours together, an unexpectedly good combo, all will be revealed next week :-D

And in keeping with the general theme of friendship, this is my ATC design (Julia let me run amok in her craftroom, mwahahaha...)
Not the fanciest, but I enjoyed making them!  The eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted the new header too...... Nikki C has made some new badges for your sidebars, I think you can get the link over at Julia's Stamping Ground.

EDIT****  Apparently some are having problems linking up. When you paste your URL code under your name, make sure it is tight up against the LH side of the box as Mr Linky seems to be inserting a single space which means the link won't work. Heads up to Nikki C for the advice! I just linked Julia's blog for her and didn't have an issue ****

Right then, here's the linky and remember to put an asterisk after your name if you want to join in the swap!

GET UP, GET UP,
GET OUT OF YOUR LAZY BED...

Hello everyone - this is the first week of me taking over WOYWW while Julia is away then having her operation and recuperating. I'm going to write my blog as normal but it's fine if you just scroll down to the link. You don't have to comment either.

There's not much I can do to help her practically, but this is a way of keeping the weekly madness going. There's a lot to be said for continuity!  I do appreciate that numbers of folks participating may fall but that's ok, as long as some of us keep going so that at some point in the future Julia will be well enough to resume her Queenly Duties :-D

I am therefore keeping everything firmly crossed that Mr Linky does his thing ok!!

So, the desk is looking a bit empty this week, though I have made something:
I hadn't made one of these mini craft totes for ages - it was a request from Julia for one of her coven friends. It needed a good iron at this point!  I like the stripy linen lining a lot.

Then here is the reason for today's lyric - I was trying to cheaply make a spare bed look a bit better. I'd bought 1.5 metres of this duck egg blue fabric a while back....
It's only folded over the old headboard at the moment but I will make a proper slip cover. Then I'll make some cushion covers out of these fabrics - heavens to Betsy.....it's almost co-ordinated, that'll never do!
Oooooh, lovely.....yum yum yum. I do love it when a happy accident happens because I never plan anything!!

And finally, I'm making a crochet blanket out of bright colours just cos it makes me happy:
Using up my stash as well - a win win situation!

Right then here's the link - don't forget next week is the Anniversary ATC swap. See here on Julia's blog for the details.

BE BOP A LULA, SHE'S MY BABY....

This is a bunting-free week...whoop whoop!  Even I was getting fed up of seeing it :-)  In fact, you couldn't get a much more different desk today!

Yep, it's the longest, thinnest scarf I've ever made!  Cast on five stitches and knit until the yarn runs out (some of you may recognise it as tinsel yarn which I used to make the Hooters and Hedgehog soft toys)

And why did I do this?

In order to tart up a very ordinary black shrug!  The 'scarf' was just long enough to start at one side seam, up and around the neckline and finish at the other side. Lucky eh?!  I needed something to go to the annual dinner and awards evening of my brass band :-)

It went really well with the 50s style vintage dress I bought. The skirt is very full and swishes out, which I like a lot. I might have to buy a net underskirt to really do The Look. It was ever so comfy to wear and I got a lot of compliments, so that was lovely :-D  Oh, and I won an award too and so did Mr LLJ, for helping out the band. Woohoo!

Not a lot of crafting has happened as the week has been full of decorating and brass tooting.

Last Thursday, Phoenix Brass gave a concert for the residents and families at the Help for Heroes HQ at Tidworth (I'm 2nd from left in the back row, playing the big 'un!) For the non-UK deskers, this is an amazing place where wounded military personnel can recover from their life threatening injuries.

What an evening. The buildings were fantastic (we were in the Sports hall), the facilities are incredible and the people who are there are inspiring. A local choir sang a few spots too and we got a standing ovation...twice!  I sincerely hope that we get to play there again - it was a truly fantastic experience.

Have a great week everyone. xxxxxxxx

I'LL BE WITH YOU IN APPLE BLOSSOM TIME....

It's the same old, same old this week - I told you I was doing a lot of bunting!
It doesn't look much different from what I showed you seven days ago - except the name is different and I've knitted another top-down cardi that needs some buttons.
I went to Miss Lemon's, my local yarn store and fell in love with these ribbons and lace. The colours were directly inspired by the gorgeous work that Diana (VelvetMoth Studio) showed on her desk last week. Apple greens and pinks work so well, don't they?  I didn't use that hare ribbon on the bunting but thought that a metre of it wouldn't break the bank :-)
Those little ivory blush roses were another purchase too...cough...well, it would have been rude not to.....
I also bought two of these beautiful little butterflies as the bunting is intended for a real nature loving lady.  Lovely colours, huh?
There you go - the finished article :-)  I enjoyed making this a lot, the colours were just so fresh.
And I tidied (sort of) my box of ribbony goodness!

Last week, I'd arranged for a few of the local deskers to come for coffee and a chat at Julia's. Guess whose work this is?

The aforementioned Diana, that's who. She brought this box of beautiful goodies, we all enjoyed a furtle. And her work is as gorgeous in real life as it is on her blog....gorgeouser even!
Some teabag embroidery, so intricate...I was in awe.

And Julia's embroidery is coming along beautifully too!!

Have a great week everyone, I'll try not to have bunting on show next time!!
